Absolutely! The more people you have bidding on your auction, the more money you're going to get for your item. In my experience, including other countries in your auction can sometimes double the final selling price.
Yes, I only generally cut out dodgy countries. I've sold things recently to people all over the world with not a single problem. Albeit smaller items. -
I've given up selling on Ebay, I'd rather use Basschat and make a donation and I have done. I'll buy from the bay but that's it.
Try selling a Warwick on here and you'll be back using ebay in no time. -
The kid's great Outplaying Flea? A sharp intake of breath is taken.
E-Bay, don't you love it! Despite me putting on an ad for my Stingray that I won't spip outside of the UK just had a bid from a Miguel in Spain!!!! I give up ;-)
You clearly have not sent up your auction correctly. You need to specify in your postage services details where you ship to, ebay will not allow bids from any other areas. Have you used ebay much before for selling? It is wise to set up your auction carefully. It is looking more and more that you are creating these problems for yourself. -
haha finally some Yes admirers! good to see you guys! absolute agree with you, mate! Tormato is my fav' all time Yes album. I remember back then, in the eighties (when I started to listen Yes, I was 16) Tormato is being flamed all around, and still is. never understood to these days why, but then, critics are usually bunch of hearing impaired people... (also I do love Drama and tales from topografic Ocean.....)
I loved Tormato when I was 16ish too. And Drama. TFTO is a different matter -
"Hyperventilate" by Frost* at the moment, ace British prog band. I also find it amusing that their albums so far have been written and recorded in a glorified shed in the keyboardist's garden!
People keep telling me to listen to Frost* because I like RUSH and Yes and stuff. I never bothered but I just played that vid you posted. I'm sorry, no disrespect to those who like Frost*, but to call it Prog is clearly downright wrong. It just sounds like elevator music by skillful musicians. It is DESIGNED to be pleasing to the ears if you accidentally hear it somewhere. Awful. IMO. Sorry.
So the shelf life of music is not dependent on time, but rather on the consumer. Novel. This means there will always be a market for old and tired music. If the consumer becomes tired of listening to it then the consumer must search out new fresh music. So there continues to be markets for both cover bands and originals and they are completely different markets. There is also another driving force - fashion. Teenagers don't want to be seen to listen to the same unfashionable music their parents listen to. Although plenty will do it happily at home I'm in my 40s, I lived through the 80s and my personal opinion is that most of it was really poor music. I have a lot of friends in their 30s who feel they missed out on the 80s and they love the tunes. I believe that all the dross has now been weeded out to leave tunes that have matured with time. 80s cover bands do extremely well.
Just because you didn't dig on some of that music does not make it dross. I detest the Pet Shop Boys, but a hell of a lot of people like them. It's just music. You are looking at music from a technical approach. Mantovani is more accessible and listenable than Stravinsky for a lot of people, does that diminish its worth? Or make Mantovani simple sh*te? No. It is just music.
I don't think music is dying but I think it's not easy for good music to come to the forefront because the forefront is occupied by label-sponsored acts that are easily moulded and controllable.
When was the situation any different?
Gents, Happily the dispute has been closed, but I am now waiting for the guy to leave me negative feedback. It was mainly my fault for not being in when the Courier arrived to pick it up, although I did have a pre 12pm slot and he turned up at 3pm! I apologised to the buyer and offered to refund the £30 courier cost which I thought was the gentlemanly thing to do, I took a few days making the payment but did apologise. Oh well lesson learnt. It still seems harsh to open a dispute over me refunding the shipping costs as at the end of the day it was only a day later than we had agreed and the shipping cost him nothing. Cheers, steve.
Did he contact you before opening the dispute? That's the first thing ebay/paypal will ask. Communication is EVERYTHING. Only a complete c*** will not respond to good, timely comms and gentlemanly conduct. -
Your not wrong I must keep away from the bay, selling pricey basses seems racked with problems. I may well pull my Stingray from sale, as the guy winning the auction keeps mailing me asking very strange questions liek what Amp is in the bass, have I ever refitted the strings (on a 5 year old bass) will I accept a cash on collection despite me stating that its bank transfer or cheque.... Arrgghh!!!
It shouldn't be racked with problems. Play by the rules and use your common sense and all is usually fine. I've sold plenty of fairly expensive things on the bay with no issues apart from a non-payer on a wah pedal. i offered it to the next highest bidder and he was delighted. Have you set up your Stingray auction Ts & Cs properly? Block recent unpaid item strikes, people with less than 3 feedback or whatever? How long left until the auction finishes? Anything suspicious, block the bidder. I can't understand why you are tolerating the bidder that's asking you stupid questions and wants to use a different payment method. Politely tell him CoC is not possible and remove his bids and block him if you don't like the answers you get. -
Folks, I sold a bass for some £600 on E-bay about three weeks ago and have the delivery confirmation from the courier along with E-mails from the buyer stating that he is enjoying playing the bass (all sent via E-Bay mail) this morning I have recieved a dispute from Pay-Pal that the buyer has not recieved the item and have subsequently deducted the £600 from my account. I have mailed the guy via E-Bay and by E-mail, I am obviously very concerned as I can ill afford to loose £600. Anyone got any advice, its seems Pay-Pal are uncontactable and thier assistance with disputes seems vague and unhelpful?????? A worried Steve!!!
Not having much luck with ebay at the moment, are you! Echo the above. All sounds like you will get your money back. Appalling behaviour from PP though. -
I do apologise. It was a flippant remark, relating to the current furore over the price of pickguards on the site. EDIT: obviously I'm not suggesting that Jon Shuker would charge $500 for a pickguard, no not all. I'll stop now.
Aha! Got you! The Fodera furore, I'm not spending so much time on the net at the moment so I missed that ref No, I supplied the mirror blank and my drawing and pickup covers to Jon, he's doing it for the same price as you would pay for a Genuine Fender tort pickguard which to my mind are very expensive for a mass produced plastic PG. Whereas Jon has to make a custom one-off template to cut and mitre the mirror blank which is more work than making the PG, but it has to be done. He's been an absolute diamond so far, really looking forward to seeing the result! Cheers, N
That's weird - this week, I've been listening to exactly the same track, over and over. Such a great fat grunty bass sound.
Exactly what I have been doing for the last week and a bit, over and over and over and over. The bass sound is the best I've heard, wonderful! The mix is great, the sound quality, Jon's voice, the stereo field backing vox, the song, everything is fabulous! -
Thanks gents Mr Shuker is making the mirror pickguard this week so I should have it back early next week. In the meantime it's had more coats of white nitro and I will cut that back tonight and fill the remaining imperfections with Milliput. I have also fitted the brass Warwick nut which looks ace.
Check page 43... too much of a coincidence?
Heh heh! You are absolutely correct. The G is clearly not sitting in the saddle. I don't believe a word of this dead spots headstock thing, there are more factors than the size of the 'stock. The wood itself is probably the biggest problem.
I keep mine in cases but whatever is getting played at the moment is always out on display just on a hercules A frame stand, ready to be played at any given moment. I love the look of those American fuel pump displays but there is a lot to be said for being able to just grab an instrument & I worry that you can't do that with a lot of displays
I never store my instruments in their cases, they all sit on stands in the hall, ready to be played at any given moment, like yours.

Hello, my name is Nigel and I'm an alcoholic. My two bands are thus (and it's an absolute delight and privilege to play with them) .. Krupa - I've been playing bass with Krupa's solo band for about three years. She's the singer with Transglobal Underground and previously with 1 Giant Leap. Krupa on vocal and Kaoss Pad, Hamid Mantu from Transglobal on drums and percussion, me on bass. We have an album coming out in November which got a lovely 4 star review in Uncut Magazine last month. You can hear some of it here http://www.myspace.com/krupa "Jaw droppingly good" The Evening Standard "UNCUT MAGAZINE REVIEW OCT 2010: Artist: KRUPA Album:Wonder If The Moon DiscoMind Girl Productions* * * * Global influences fused into perky urban pop Spinning the bouncy, rhythmic Eighties dance-pop of Madonna and Prince into fresh directions with great lashings of Bollywood themes and tropes, this striking-looking Londoner’s solo debut buzzes like a peripatetic wasp, from the opening salvo of “Love Sting” to the looping “Ridiculous Boy”, which echoes the Purple Imp’s “Dirty Mind”. Krupa has sung for Transglobal Underground and 1 Giant Leap and now revels in unleashing her own predilections, asserting independence as an “Emotional Yoyo”. It’s as busy as Tom Tom Club with burbling samples, funky drum-breaks and bursts of reggae and rap, and insistently catchy. Fierce." Chris Roberts "Vocally at times Krupa sounds like Kate Bush but with balls. Let’s hope audiences soon catch on to the fact that the future of music is with acts like this, rather than with the gaudy pyrotechnics of the X Factor." Howard Male - The Arts Desk" Nov 2009 "Insanely catchy Bollywood pop style" BBC ------------------------------------------------------------------- Kit Richardson - I've been playing with Kit for a year and a half. It's ferocious chamber pop. Kit's an extremely talented singer/songwriter/pianist and I answered her ad for a bassist in this very portal. I simply HAD to be in her band Line up is Kit on vocal and piano, Oli Dacombe on Drums, Sam Norris on guitar, MicroKorg and Glockenspiel, Emma Blanco and Jessie May Smart on violins. We are going to record a new EP in November. There is some older live in the studio stuff here, but we sound much bigger now. http://www.myspace.com/kitrichardsonmusic "Kit Richardson begins singing, and my jaw drops. She stretches, trips and cartwheels her words and vowels. Her songs are almost subterranean in depth. Bewilderingly Diverse .. Amazing!" Artrocker.
