Did the very self same thing....thought ..this looks nice...only £60...mmmm....then I remembered I have just sold my Sandberg cause I was skint.......
Same here, nearly bought the white Tele and the Cutaway Classical and only just managed to stop myself too! I just sold my two German Warwicks because I wanted a Fender Jazz and a leccy drum kit. It's mad, they look so good for the money. The classical has a solid spruce top and laminate rosewood sides! Looks like the basses have all gone though.
 2.
Looks like John Taylor to me. There are certainly bigger twats in this world... He was reaching over with his right hand so that he could sustain the note he was fretting with his left. I don't understand the problem?
Personal issues.
 3.
I never thought I'd see the day. I picked this up last night I know it's a Rockbass but I wasn't going to dive in with a full German jobby. Initial thoughts, I have to get used to the neck but the tone is wonderful with the bass and treble turned up a little. Quick question what do the front 2 knobs do?
Hahaha! Excellent The most recent necks from 2009 are like the best Jazz you've ever played, that one will be a bit clubbier but still Jazz nut width. Is it active? The knobs from front to back should be Vol (pull for passive) / Pickup Pan / Treble / Bass Looking forward to seeing you with a German one eventually!
 4.
I'm curious to know what the machines are like on these.
Hipshot if it's a USA Standard. Lightweight, work beautifully and look elegant. Something like this
 5.
It is a bit podgy-looking, but I'd say the scratchplate is more wrong than the body contours - if it was a bit more symmetrical, angular & tidily-cut like the original, it would improve the whole look. However, I'll forgive the Retrovibe a lot, if it's red with black binding and costs £260. If I do get one it'll get black hardware, re-cut or replaced scratchplate & a black surround for the bridge pup. Jon.
I know what you mean, Jon. And it probably won't bother most people. I spent my formative years pissing about with French curves and learning art and graphic design (yes, yes, I've heard them all before ) and things like this scream at me, I couldn't live with it. Weird isn't it. Amazing value for money and I've heard a lot of great things about them.
 6.
of course, otherwise rickenbacker would sue for the copies being un-'fast and bulbous' got me ?
That's right the mascara snake
 7. I'll probably get a mouthful back for saying this, but the Retrovibe Ricky body shape is nothing like a Ricky 4001/3. It's all wrong and upsets my eye. There is something very beautiful about the Ricky shape, but these are nothing like it. I'll have to do a straight comparison with some some similar pics but I would bet money it starts from the lower bout and around the back of the bridge. It's too bulbous and lacks the Rickenbacker beauty. See what I mean? The lack of a Rick style bridge makes it even worse. Picky bastard aren't I
 8.
I can see what you mean...lovely looking bass though. Can you get the shop to check it? E seems close to the edge of the board cf to the G.
I've seen a good few Fenders like this. They should be able to get sh*t like this right by now and align the bridge properly. I really like the old style ribbed saddles, you can so easily put issues like that right. EDIT: Hang on, I had a closer look at the saddles and the strings are not correctly positioned over them. The strings aren't in line with the pup poles either. Easy to sort that out I think - reposition the strings on the saddles.
 9. I agree with Doddy, you are playing with the wrong guys. You don't say how experienced they are or what their motivations are. I have seen plenty of sh*t bassists, drummers, keyboardists, singers, too. Also, there is no requirement whatsoever in a band for other band members to be considerate of the time you took to select your tone, gear, or your shoes. If it works it works, if it doesn't then something needs done. Many musicians only listen to themselves. If the distortion is part of the band sound, then you need to refine your tone to suit. Often you'll be felt more than heard. In bands like that, not many of the audience care about the bass, it's distorted guitars that make them moist. That's why I don't play that sort of music any more, it's more fun being in the audience most of the time.
 10.
I'm just waiting for some strange natural phenomena to occur now. Like all the grass turning blue or animals starting to speak Spanish or something equally weird.
Or rs laing to appear bearing gifts and glad tidings.
 11.
This is a good point....I find if a bass does this to me, then Im very happy!
First time ever for me. I would, without question, never replace this bass without first trying the prospective replacement. This is the first time I have felt a deep connection with a bass. I hope it lasts. It's hard to explain, but I feel that the notes I play on it are given back to me by the bass, they don't disappear, every not I play on it brings the bass closer to me. The bass does not remain the same, we give to each other and take from each other. The bass and me are synergistic. It's harder to play than my Warwicks, it has four frets missing, it's passive, it's a funny colour, the frets are too skinny, it's completely old fashioned. But the neck is wonderful and it responds to everything I do. I realise it sounds stupid - it's wood and strings, but it's what I felt on Saturday night, and I still feel it. I truly loved my Warwicks because they were so reliable, great sounding and beautiful to play, but I never got this feeling from them. I don't get it from the Chris Squire Electra I built either. They are all tools. This is different. I wonder if the feeling will last? I've been searching for this feeling for a long time, once I realised it was possible. I had it with a guitar 20 years ago, a Aria Pro II that I modded very heavily. I wore the frets out after three years. I gave it to a friend.
Great mind think alike http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...t&p=1118981
I'm speechless! A Warwick? I just sold that bass actually, but get any German BO Corvette $$ and they should sound very similar. Then of course you will need a POD X3 LIVE and a decent hat
 13.
Anyone remember the Marlin Sidewinder? I recall the Marlin name was crafted into the shape of the fish, thought it looked quite cool. The only actual bass I ever tried in a shop was a bit crap though.
A friend of mine has one. It's f***ing horrible to play. I remember when they came out. I had a bass with a fish on it, couldn't shift it.
 14. I just went B2B too with a superb Jazz Bass. Quite nice to be dealing with passive electronics and no fancy stuff. Lovely bass. Have fun with your P mate!
 15.
Mhmmm - nice! And you went for the black nylons too - I was thinking about those, but am so attached to TIs, so I haven't yet. But they really do complete the look!
The BNs are lovely to play and sound great. Sorry for the OT section here
 16.
You wouldn't be saying that if you'd read it before I edited it
I bet!
 17.
Yep, although it's not quite what it seems: You can read about how it turned white, and see more pics of it before, during and after, here: http://forum.warwick.de/17-warwick-rockbas...on-project.html
Wickid! 18.
Water under the bridge? Nasty. That's another reason to make sure your packaging is waterproof. Ok, I'll get my coat...
mart, you got a picture of the rest of that Wick in your avatar mate? I'd like to see it!
 19.
Oh yes! Very verbally in fact! It wasn't just me though, he was selling about five instruments and did the same on all of them. Seriously! I was lucky in that the bass only had a minor chip and some scratches on the back, albeit small ones, other buyers were not so lucky. The bass in question wasn't massively expensive, and I managed to get some money knocked off. Thing is, had I sent it back it would of cost me money and time to pack, and the sale of the bass if it came up again would be about what I ended up paying for it. The seller was just generally very inexperienced and just didn't think about what they were doing! But still....... In all fairness to the courier, when the bass arrived he commented on the p*** poor packing. I think he, and other handlers had tried to take care of it realising the situation, but plastic bags can only do so much not to protect a bass! It's all water under the bridge now and the bass in question is now my main instrument. I don't remember the sellers name now, but I did start a feedback thread about it. I then toned it down after I calmed down No point holding grudges.
HAHAHA! I found it. Everyone was really quite civil though and the guy obviously learned his lesson very quickly, he was incredibly contrite too. All good!

Like you say, water under the bridge now.

 22.
I'm good thanks, but I'm not really "back", I'm still not that interested in posting. I've managed to find more time for music since I stopped using forums quite so much though so it's all good. Currently learning to read as my new year resolution, and working on a new EP with my band. Hope you're well and keeping busy. - Kev
Cool mate. I tried to stay away for a bit but I got the shakes and looked a bit pasty so I came back. I lasted a bloody week There's a few of us reading converts about, after another highly argumentative 'to read or not to read' thread I have to say, it's totally worth the effort learning to read. Music theory is what is really useful to me though. Hope the EP recording goes well, I'm doing one too at the moment. In four bands now, one of them is just a hobby band though but it's fun. Take care mate and keep in touch. Cheers, Nx
 23.
Well, just be thankful your bass didn't arrive just wrapped in a black plastic bin bag, which one of my purchases from here did! Heaven knows how it only managed a few chips and nothing worse during transit!
You're not serious!? A BCer sent a bass to you in nothing but a bin liner!? That's f***ing insane. Did you say anything?
 24.
Worth a look G, but I have told you before, the only way out of this is to get Sei to build you one... it wont be cheap, and it wont be with you soon but it will stop this GAS once and for all. All the spec you can handle, fantastic finish and a unique bass.
Ahh, wonderful as they are, will a Sei sound and feel anything like a Jazz? I've played a few and they are incredible instruments. And Martin is a lovely bloke.
