The 77 P Bass is a cracker, but he has had it for a long time now, I'm fairly sure it was on there when I first visited the website in 2009. I really like the blue P bass special and that one has also been on there for a year or so.
Really? I wonder if something's the matter with it? Seems like a decent price to me. -
ARRIVED!! CIJ Fender Matched CAR 62 RI Limited Run Jazz Bass
xilddx replied to xilddx's topic in Bass Guitars
Hey, thanks gents! I love covers too, but I can't play with the damn things on. Should be an awesome player, John gave me some neck measurements which sound like this neck will be about perfect for me. -
Dilemma! Would like opinions... with poll :)
That amp in your link is certainly awesome value for money! But the issue that I have is that I have a great combo amp at the moment, plenty loud enough etc, but it's just too heavy. it weighs 60lbs, which is the same as that cab in the thread. If I was fitter and healthier, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at that weight, but I have back and wrist problems, and want to avoid injuring myself any further by lugging around stuff that's way too heavy for me I'm definitely gonna see if there are ways of going about everything without selling the Warwick, but it might be that I need to. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't really go out much, maybe once every couple of months, don't get takeaways often... it's just that money's tight at the moment.
Keep your Wick, and get a POD X3 LIVE. Save your back and sound like anything you want to sound like. That's what I did and although I'm selling and buying basses constantly it seems, that POD is going nowhere. It's an awesome bit of kit, at home, in the studio and on stage. -
never needed active electronics, never will. it's just a loudness contest. used for boosting bright pickups which have less output. just get playing first, worry about the details when you think somethings wrong.
See I simply can't agree with that at all. Having those controls onboard instead of on a pedal or on an amp means I can adjust the tone and output dynamics, while the song is progressing, much more easily. It good to be able to get those changes onstage quickly, certainly is for me. That said, i just sold all but one active bass and buying a Fender Jazz

ARRIVED!! CIJ Fender Matched CAR 62 RI Limited Run Jazz Bass
Good score Nigel. White pearl would be OTT for my tastes, would prefer an aged ivory/cream scratchplate but its not my bass! Enjoy mate
Cheers! Yeah I tend to agree mate. It's aged white in the pic. I actually quite like it, not generally a fan of plain plastic. -
I changed my mind about importing a white B&B Fender Japan JB66 and paying a fortune in customs, handling and shipping. So I'll be picking this beauty up from John, who seems like a lovely bloke, in a week or two. I am rather excited now I think a pearl white plate would look nice on this, but maybe a bit OTT - what do you think?
By "unseen", I really mean without playing them before buying. How many people here have bought a bass unseen and then kept it for several years? I've had a Rickenbacker C64 for 3 years. All the other unseens were sold within a year of purchase.
A good few, and they've all been good. The Warwicks were the best for me, but they are going now and being replaced with a gorgeous CIJ CAR Jazz, also unplayed. Mind you I got measurements beforehand, like you would with any far eastern bride
Good work Silddx. I had a MIJ 75 reissue in the CAR and it's just beautiful in real life. Better get in touch with John for my commission cheque
Hahaha! I told John I was after a 75 and he put me on his watch list. But this cracker has been on my mind since you posted it !
Good for you Silddx! It's an absolute beauty and please feel free to make us all green with envy in the Gear Porn section. I've had my eye out for a JB66. Have you seen any that are worth a look?
Thanks mate! The only place I've spotted the JB66s are from an ebay store who reckons he can get anything in the Fender Japan range new. I was going to get this one as he has three, but it didn't sell and he relisted it a over $80 more. I just thought he was taking the piss and I'd be paying over £300 just to get it here. John seems like a really nice bloke who knows what he's talking about so after a few emails about the CAR Jazz last week I decided to call him tonight for a quick chat about it, with the result that it's now reserved for me Can't wait to drive over and pick it up now!
I disagree. I've owned 2 CIJ Fenders (the 70RI precision I have now, and a 62RI fretless like the one for sale here) and they are both incredible basses. The fretless was easily the best jazz I'd ever played, it broke my heart when I had to sell it to pay rent. I bought the precision from far east guitars, and he had a similar one there when I did, as well as a 75RI jazz; it was a tough decision as they were all top-notch! Also, I set up another 70RI precision a couple of weeks ago which was another stunning bass. Conversely, I've played loads of American Fenders, and although some were very good, they never quite match the CIJ in my opinion, and some have been downright terrible! Although I think I'm yet to try a 'good' USA fender, I believe that the area that the Japanese Fenders excel in is quality control, which really gives them their edge. Of course, this is all IMO, and I will say that I'm only talking about 'modern' Fenders here (1980 onwards). But, one thing I wish they'd improve on the CIJ is the thickness of the poly finish!
I'm told that MIJ are the export ones. MIJs are deliberately lower spec than the CIJs which are non-export only at Fender's insistence because the high quality and spec would dilute the MIA market.
60s beardy-weirdy JapCrap isn't really my area, but these are actually quite well-known. Apart from bein Vox Phantom looky-likeys, these are re-badged Teiscos, the guitar is an EV3-T, dunno what the bass' model number is but I'd bet it involves a B (for bass) & a 2 (number of pickups). EV2-B, perhaps? If they are '67, which is undoubtedly the right era, they may technically be Kawais, not Teiscos, as Kawai bought Teisco out in 1967. Anyway - these are gorgeous, absolutely stunning condition. For a moment I thought it was £545 for the pair - that might've almost been tempting... Jon.
Top info as always Jon, thank you! I also thought £545 was for the pair, just for a moment! Gorgeous aren't they! -
It was great to meet you today. Sorry I didn't buy it but I don't think I could have done it justice! To everyone else, it is a fantastic bass and is a real bargin
It's an incredible bargain! Can't believe it didn't go for 220.
Which are the reasonably priced ones?
That 77 P for a start. Nearly a grand cheaper than a current 57 RI signed by Lemmy The gorgeous 4003 mapleglo is what they get offered for on here. The 100% original 1971 Sunburst with original case also. Do you think they are expensive then? -
Would be cool if you could watch my bands new video, there are a few bass licks in there even if you don't like the song If you like it, would be awesome if you could share it, tweet about it or whatever else you can do these days! Thanks for watching (if you do) Watch it on youtube here
Would you mind embedding it, it is not available for me to watch in Germany. Cheers.
1. Get an original 60's Fender jazz or Precision, or both. Put them away. 2. Get a [s]second hand Overwater Progress 3[/s] brand new Warwick. 3. Think about custom made basses in about 15 years. 4. Have a holiday in [s]US taking in Austin, New Orleans and New York[/s] Bognor Regis.
Fixed
