Cheers for that. I agree with your points - we won't be restricting numbers of posts on the forum but will ask a token fee to advertise there. I'm working out the details now but basically it'll run like this: Old/new member pays subscription; Subscription automatically makes you an "Affiliate" (new member category) An 'Affiliate' can then create topics in the Affiliates forum for the length of the subscription; 'Affiliates' would also have moderating power in that forum only; 'Members' would not be allowed to start topics - they could only reply to 'Affiliates' posts; I'm going to have it implemented when we upgrade to V3.2 very soon as it'll be easier with the new software and we might as well do it at once. The cost is a token amount, maybe £5 a month or an option to pay for a year upfront. The original idea was that the affiliates would donate once in a while but unfortunately that really hasn't been the case. There is little doubt that the relationship is symbiotic but a small payment to reach as many members as we have is fair for the businesses wishing to use the forum to reach our membership. I like the idea of tidying up the forum, too - maybe we could have amps/cabs/basses etc in sections. It should make the section much tidier and more useful.. watch this space and wait it out whilst we upgrade to 3.2 Any questions fire away and sorry it's been a bit unclear, but you know how it is, having a day job and so on! I originally closed the forum to play with the existing settings and functions. I made a mess of things and have reset it back so I may open it up again to how it was until we move to the new software. Cheers ped
Nice one mate.
I bought 2 sets of Hi Beam LLR-40s (40-95) from a guy in Poland but haven't had a chance to use them yet..I'm getting a bit panicky now with all this negativity..
They are great strings, but I've had a couple of duffers lately. No response from the UK distributor yet. -
'This forum is free to use for anyone wishing to advertise their goods to Basschat members. We ask that Basschat members are offered some small discount in return for you using this forum to gain customers, so please put such details in your posts. The forum will be carefully monitored to make sure no one company 'spams' the forum with endless threads. If this happens, you will probably be asked to stop or be removed form the bazaar forum. As a guide I would advise the company/business owner to post about once a week. If you would like to subscribe for a small and competitive fee and have your own exclusive 'affiliate forum' on Basschat (where you will have the freedom to make as much 'noise' as you like!) please PM me and I will give you the details. The benefits include full HTML posting, your posts will appear in the 'new posts' summary page and you will be represented in a banner at the top of the site page. This is an experimental phase so let's see how it works out. Cheers and enjoy the forum ped' My personal preference would be to have the companies in the section pinned in alphabetical order under categories, like the Basschatters' Reviews section, with the Company Name in the title and a description of the offering in the subtitle. I don't think you should really limit their posts. That's restrictive and unnecessary. A discount to basschatters is fair enough, but I would avoid treating these manufacturers and suppliers like you are doing them a favour. It's symbiotic. Members get discounts and a direct and more personal relationship with the suppliers through here, the suppliers get the exposure and the advantages of BC members being trusted third parties recommending products and service. You, the BC shareholders, get the advantages of hosting these relationships which is a good draw for new members. We could individually form relationships with these affiliates outside Basschat, it would just be more fragmented and without the benefits of the community here. It's all mutually beneficial because we get better products and service as a result of our feedback to them. Treat them fairly and foster the community spirit, it's good for all of us.
Give the Rotosound Nexus a go. I switched from the Black Beauties to those (also black coated) and I preferred them. I don't use coated strings anymore, but if I went back it'd be the Nexus.
Haven't heard too much praise for those mate, sorry. Tension is very important to me too. Just hoping DR can restore my faith -

And all that 20 minutes was he listening to it in isolation? I have to say I don't dig on any of their sounds at the moment, haven't for a while TBH. Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures albums had their lovliest sounds for me. Just gorgeous to hear. -
Meant individually cheap! And thanks for the advice, will e-mail them about it.
They're quite expensive! Superb quality. Get them from the States off ebay. You will save much money. I get all my Hipshot stuff that way. I just looked though and chrome are not available as a set.
Hi all, Replacing my tuners on my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass 2011. I have Hipshots in mind, however I have no clue at all what would fit. I know there's other brands but Hipshots are quite cheap and have been recommended. Anyone know if their tuners can be directly fitted on? If Hipshot don't do any, does anybody know of any other direct replacements? Cheers.
First time I've heard Hipshot described as cheap! They do direct Fender replacements, in fact they make the current USA Standard Fender tuners. I would think the HB7s are what you want http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...etail&p=261 but email Hipshot, they are very good at answering questions.
That's true, so you could just buy blind from Thomann and, if you get one like mine, send it straight back as faulty goods. Mind you, I am surprised to hear silddx being polite about Thomann, given his recent experience!
I'm not being polite, just stating their terms. I will NEVER deal with them again.
Have you ever watched his left hand? His right hand technique is superb, but his left hand technique is as good as it gets. Now, if he could move away from the bass led fuzak and start writing emsemble fusion songs again he'd be onto a winner. He's an amazing bassist but it doesn't need to be front and centre all day long. He needs to do some fusion trio stuff with Frank Gambale and a great drummer like Jeff Sipe to get him back to basics.
Frank Gambale -
Its annoying isnt it! Especially when Ive never had cheaper brands create problems. Ernie Balls are doing it for me at the moment, although I like to flirt with DRs, TIs and D'adaddarios.
Very annoying! -
Did you contact the UK distributor or DR directly?? The UK guys at firstline are pretty decent folks. Not getting back to you twice is very bad form and very bad customer service.
Thanks for this, I just emailed them. I'll post what happens. Cheers! -
Did you contact the UK distributor or DR directly?? The UK guys at firstline are pretty decent folks. Not getting back to you twice is very bad form and very bad customer service.
DR in New Jersey. I had a set about 18 months or so ago that had two Ds and no G. They were cool and actually sent m a whole new set. But I have noticed a couple of times that a string seems to be dead. I had a dead E once but thought it was my fault. Now this G. I can't afford to deal with quality issues with strings as you never know until you put them on, a day before recording or gigging and that becomes a serious problem. -
I got some DR Black Beauties with a duff G over a couple of months ago. I hear they had some bad batches or something. No replies yet to my two emails. It's a shame because I love DR strings, and Black Beauties are my very favourites. But I can't allow myself to live with poor customer service, even if I love the product, it makes me feel uncomforatable. So I have decided to switch brands and just ordered some Elixirs to see what they're like. I hear they are very good.
A lot of people rave about using flatwounds on a P Bass. They'll give you a very round warm old school kinda sound.
Yes, and D'Addario Chromes seem to be very popular among the flats. I have LaBella Black Nylon Tapewounds on my Hohner headless. They sound and feel pretty good.
I moved here from Nuneaton, about 8 miles from Coventry. Best move I ever made, even with it's downsides. There is no way on Earth that I would move to London though, I hate cities. And thanks!
Sadly (in a way) I NEED the city. I adore the country so i get some of that when I go fishing. Which village are you in then? I lived in the middle of Llanfihangel-ar-Arth and Llandysul in a traditional Welsh stone cottage overlooking the Teifi valley with an iron age hill fort on the other side where me and my mates from Cov would go camping and injest the local mushrooms. Happy days! I used to work as an illustrator in Carmarthen Museum in Abergwili , that was one of the nicest jobs I've ever had!
Seriously, it's hilarious what so called guitar experts try and fob the punters off with. Ask him to build you a Faraday cage out of wood the next time you go to him... although having read that I suggest giving him a wide birth.
