Headstock now complete!! I hope to get the bass reassembled this weekend.
Delicious!! -
Im sure this has been up here time and time again. But im going to ask anyway! How do greats such as Victor Wooten / Marcus Miller create such great grooves ? I mean they have their own tracklists and no 2 tracks are identical in terms of groove. When you ask them, e.g. interviews its always 'You gotta listen to everything'. I know you can't listen to everything in a week but do you think it works, or even beneficial ? I'd love some feedback on this and your opinions. Share what you want !
What is your FAVOURITE piece of music at the moment?
Let the space do the work. Like football they say let the ball do the work.
Why do they pay those vulgar badly dressed aresoles so much money then?
-
It's all in the mind But there is commonality in what most people react to positively in terms of 'groove' I defy anyone to quantify it though.
Dunlop Ultex are far more hardwearing than the usual soft plastic picks. I get a few months wear out of them.
Hideous things though aren't they. No feedback at all. I prefer the yellow Dunlop Tortex triangles these days. Enough durability, three points, and flexible enough to give you some feedback from your fingers.
Opposite again, I find chord chart extremely helpful and time saving, only when I see a chart I also see every single note I can play except the notes on the chart.
That's the thing, and I suppose it depends on the music and the musical environment, but my ears usually tell me what I need to know, then it's down to my ears/creativity/fingers connections as to whether I can improvise a suitable and interesting line quickly enough.
My drummer said last night 'Brian can play any song' I really like him! What he means is I can play it because I can read chord charts etc. Can't play a thing by ear
Funny innit. I'm the opposite. Give me a chord chart and I will become the most uncreative player you can imagine. Let me learn a song by ear and all sorts of ideas pop into my head and a nice bassline emerges, usually

Just get a POD man!
Mrs complaining about tripping over the POD ??
I really should have a word with myself about being too subtle
IT WAS #1, THE MEXICAN FENDER JAZZ BASS ALL ALONG!!!! I can do more in the future if you'd really like? Honestly? It was half and half.
No. It was the P Bass played with fingers. Honestly, it was.

It's beautiful. Reminds me of Michael Hedges with the Steinberger transtrem. Very few people can pull off sh*t like this. There is a line. Over it and you can move people. Under it and you will a laughing stock for people who can tell the difference.
-
Avoid IME, the ones I had were sh*te. Go for a Hohner. Immeasurably better built, better electronics, better everything really. What's wrong with DBE strings? The converter I got ruined a set of DRs in five minutes, and I am sure I didn't over-tighten the set screws. Get La Bella DBEs
-
On a 4 String, would it be a 100 quid's worth of 'works' though? Should I just buy a shelf?
-
I think I need to run my rig through a spectrum analyser to see what it's doing, and if I can interpret what it says
The micro-Thumpianator is designed for 5 (or 6) string bass. A 4 string version doesn't exist. I can design and build 4 string version as a Custom Shop on request.
Sorry for wasting my own, and everyone else's time Where does it say it's designed for 5 (or 6) string bass though? Saw nowt on your website or on here, unless I'm blind I was very seriously considering buying one too
-
LH and Silent Fly, thanks so much! Um, have I missed something? A 4-String version? I only play four string basses, is it designed more for ERBs then?
Yeah I would never hold up Fender as a quality brand, but there are makers out there with sensible prices and consistently high build quality. Yamaha for one.
My Fender Deluxe Strat however is absolutely superb! But it's really what a Standard Strat should be IMO.
-
Great song! I really like that! Great performance, and I can understand why you might be questioned on whether it's live, because people make assumptions about pop music, and the quality of the performance is so good. Great stuff!
And as for ricks, fenders, gibsons etc they're pricetags are somewhat more realistic.
So is their quality control mate. Everything from accuracy of fretscale, neck fit, routing, finishing ..
Thanks mate, I had read that, but I am wondering where the MT would go in the signal path and if it's designed with such things as the POD in mind.
And now I am wondering what the difference is btween the micro and it's bigger brother, other than size. Do they ship with a PSU?
Oh yeah? How does that square with this from another thread: Unpredictable bottom? You've only got yourself to blame, sicko.
May I refer the honourable gentleman to an earlier post?
That's asking a lot!
I just want my bottom to be more predicatable

What a fascinating conversation! How would the SFX MT work in conjunction with my POD X3 LIVE which goes directly to the PA? (I don't use an amp/cab except at rehearsal) The POD X3 has no HPF or LPF and I have to admit, although I like to use very subby tones, I often find that the subs are a bit uncontrollable and suck some of my midrange when put through a PA. The 4 band parametric eq is useful, but limited. I'm interested to know if the MT will tighten up my bottom somewhat and give me a little more controllable definition, and minimise the variables, since all PAs are different, as are the people operating them, and my FoH sound needs to be more predictable.
