Notes are notes. Scales are scales. A kiss is just a kiss.
Title says it all really but I want to know who and your reasons
I've never had sex with Flea so I can't answer truthfully. Les was awesome though, we went fishing afterwards.

Mariella Frostrup, at the front by the stage. Her voice is quite mesmerising. But she seemed hard as nails.
Evening all, Received today a 2nd hand bass from a shop in Canterbury (I'm in west Sussex) and it's the biggest piece of rubbish I've ever played in 20 years! So as I can return it back to them as per their terms and conditions, can anyone recommend a decent courier so I can make sure it gets back safely to them? Cheers Dan
They should provide the courier as part of their return conditions. I had to return a £800 Ovation guitar to Nevada last year (it was a total piece of shittum, utter rubbish), they arrange the courier to pick it up. Same with Thomann.

That's f***ing GOOD! I really like it! You have a really good ear for a tune mate. What happened to those tunes you did for a childrens' album? They were so good, even for old buggers like me, I loved them.
Eddie Tatton's a session player who hangs out here in Lincoln and he's one of the most expressive and tasteful guitarists I've come across - he just knows what/when to play! He put a nice little solo on this track on my brother's band's latest EP (well technically it's the Viv Murrell Band, but my brother's been playing guitar for her for years from the start!) So Viv's on the clean Tele, my bro's on the clean-then-crunchy Strat, and Eddie's on the ES335-awesome-solo-duty after the 2nd chorus My brother's a great player too imo, if you care to listen to the other EPs on the soundcloud http://soundcloud.co...ll/on-your-side (Oh and the Hurry Home EP and the Closer/Embers EP on Viv's Soundcloud also features Isaac Marshall on bass, 'Isaac' on here!) http://soundcloud.co...rell/hurry-home
Great voice that Viv! I'm not keen on the arrangements (not my particular flagon of char, that genre) but you're right that he's a very expressive player, really nice note choices, gave me a few shivers, as did the vocal. Romantic.
Very true. Gail Ann Dorsey is a very good example of your point. Excellent bass player, multi-intrumentalist, great singer (listen to under pressure on Bowie's reality tour). I can't ever imagine her doing an in 'your face' 'look at me' slap happy bass solo. But she has what it takes for the big acts to hire her again and again.
Exactly right! And that's something I omitted from my list of essentials, the ability to sing. I actually think we bassists seem to live in a culture of feeling we have to be able to PLAY almost anything, from Billy Sheehan to Bach, sightread, and use the whole range of techniques available in order to feel like a GOOD musician worthy of attention. It simply is not the case and many other very important qualities are neglected. We often seem to judge other bassists by these criteria too which really pisses me off. It is unwise, and unfair.
Some time ago I was at a jam-session over here in Belgium and someone brought Divinity in to jam along.. She jumped on stage in the middle of the groove which was in Eb (not the easiest thing to play on for bassplayers who are used to do their stuff in E). She had a five string Marcus Miller bass and started to play the groove and it sounded tight. After a while they gave her a sign that she could solo and to my surprise doing the same things which every local player would do : some safely slapped octaves and a nice groove..Actually she didn't have incredible technique and nothing speedy came out of her fingers.. After a while it actually sounded like everyone else except for the fact that there was this American self-esteem which took over.. It's tough to break through in the States and I had again the impression that it is very important to be very confident on stage and sell yourself if you want to make it there.. She's a fine bassplayer but I wasn't blown away.. I agree that you don't have to be a speed demon and show incredible stuff but most of the bass players in that room had the same impression..if it would have been a man it would be less striking. After her jam the local bass-player came back onto the stage and no one felt a big difference with Divinity...in fact I liked his groove more...but he's a quiet guy in the background.
And that's the thing. Playing a musical instrument for a living and touring with bands as big as Beyonce's is nothing like being an amateur. You don't have to blow people away, and it's odd you think that she might be motivated to come in and blow everyone away just because she's got some notoriety. She is also Beyonce's MD, clearly has a superior musical mind than many, organised, reliable, a great performer who looks great on stage, plays other instruments, manages other people's performances to the main stakeholders' expectations, cool to hang about with on long tours, etc etc. Confidence, taste and ability, reliability, nice to be around, and very high standards of execution, these are important. No bassist needs to be able to shred unless the music demands it. It's odd that many of us seem to almost judge a bassist by the speed they can play an two octave Eb diminished arpeggio, or tap and slap a Bach cello suite or some sh*t. Your comment about her being a woman making her playing more striking is a bit annoying in this day and age too mate. Sorry.

Jake, Green and Lawrence, thank you so much! Fantastic advice and I really appreciate your advice and opinion. I think it's going to be my finances that are going to limit my choice. A proper weighted keyboard is way out of my league at the moment. I think I can live with something of lesser status, but be enough to learn keyboard technique and theory on, and play live synth bass. I like the idea of creating my own sounds, so I'm gravitating towards the Gaia again, and will get a software piano to use in my DAW on a MacBook Pro.
Yeah, the corduroy trousers and faux leather elbow patches give it away almost as well as the pale complexion and hands fixed in a permanent claw from attempting 200bpm 16th notes with "The Garrision" technique for ten minute intervals
Heh heh, I got two pairs of brown corduroy flares sent to me last week, with an anonymous note saying 'I saw these and thought of you!'
BTW spotted another glove user, Nathan Navaro of Pinn Panelle in a skrillex cover.
There are definitely more gloves being seen. One day, bare hands on a bassist will be seen as rank impiety
So, played a gig or two last year for the gospel choir my wife and some friends sing in. Got asked to do it again, and I've had to decline and it was a difficult decision to make. I don't want to ramble on, but it's more complicated than that. Basically, the person in charge of the band is a colossal tool. I don't use that word often, particularly when describing someone who is meant to be a friend of me and my wife, but the truth hurts (not if you've got an ego that big to protect you of course). At the outset when I consented I was given an incomplete set list, I asked what he wanted me to work on first before a practice, and he informed me that he wants me to learn them EXACTLY as recorded and perfect them to a T before a first practice, otherwise what's the point. I say OK, when is the first concert? Obviously there's a lot of work involved perfecting a 20 song set list, I don't want to outlay all that time and effort if it's going to just be ongoing rehearsals for 6 months before a concert... particularly as it's a favour and i'm not getting paid. He informs me he refuses to schedule a gig until he thinks the band is ready. I've been down that road before and I think it's a massive waste of time... anyway.... Since then, he's had another couple of massive rants, expecting me to attend a rehearsal within a days notice, and insisting there will be no provisional gig til a practice. I've now been given an updated set list numbering 30 tracks, and he's not clarified which ones I'm meant to learn verbatim, create parts for, or ignore. I asked for him to specify, he said he mentioned this in an earlier email, I respond with 'what about the new ones' and his response his 'I've already explained all this numerous times in detail I refuse to do it again'. *breath* I politely informed him that I no longer wish to be part of his band. Sure it might make things a little difficult, but I don't see why I should endure amateurs with that sort of attitude, bring my level of professionalism to what he wants, for no money, no respect and no effort on his part. People like this need to be told to grow up and we need to stop tolerating them... 'oh they're just like that, leave them be' is not a valid excuse. In any case, I was wondering what you guys would've done in my place?
I have absolutely no tolerance for that type of sh*t You did the right thing, and you describe him correctly as a colossal tool.
I like to think that Mr. Peart would flip him off, laugh, and then buy the guy a beer after the show before riding off into the sunset on his motorbike... I understand why drummers do that, but nearly every soundcheck I've witnessed (minus festivals and stadiums) involves a run-through a song to check that everything works and make sure the drummist is limbered up. I have to say, I feel lucky with my drummist being so disciplined and well behaved ^.^ With regards Divinity Roxx, I've found a new hero! I've been checking out a lot of her stuff outside of Beyonce, and it's flippin great! She's an inspiring bass player to listen to.
Yep, Div is so f***ing cool! Watching this vid has made me want to double on keyboard synth bass, so I'm getting one. Tried before but only with a titchy MicroKorg which isn't much good for piano. I've wanted to learn some piano so I hope to get something with 61 keys. I quite fancy a Juno G, like Div's got

It was great fun mate! Nice little venue too. A Basschatter called Dave Holden was in one of the support bands, I can almost smell a BC member at gigs Thanks for asking Si. N
How did it go then Nige?
Lightweight, fast-playing, fat-vintage-round tone?
Hohner B2A? Sounds as much like a P-Bass as any P-Bass I have owned or tried. So guess by definition, also the Hohner B-Bass and Hohner jack, which are pretty well the same beast dressed up differently.
I have a B2A DB for sale right now. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165836-hohner-b2a-db-4-string-drop-d-boat-paddle-l230/ -
I don't need this anymore. Its in near mint condition, lovely player, sounds brilliant, great tones for dub, funk, rock, whatever. Active with full bypass so you don't f*** up the gig if your battery dies. Has the Drop D lever. Also has a shallow thumbrest fitted. Vol for each pickup, and active bass and treble stack. Here's a recording with it. Both the dubby bass and the high pitched tabla sound. http://soundcloud.co...1-master-21-may Comes with a mint, very well padded Warwick Rockbag. Will fit in an overhead luggage on a plane. Also comes with a barely used spare set of DBE LaBella Black Nylon Tapewounds. £245 posted. £230 collected from Ealing in west London. See my feedback in the link below, you can buy from me with complete confidence. Cheers, Nigel
