Tuning changes with a floating vibrato on a Strat - any solutions?

I use the Carl Verheyen method of setting up my spring claw which is not apparently possible with the Tremol-no, but what the hey, it seems like a superb solution to my problem. Thanks again Wil! -
These look pretty nifty: http://www.tremol-no.com
Wil, you are a f***ing genius! This looks like EXACTLY what I need! Never even heard of them before. Thank you SO MUCH!! -
I am mostly bass these days but have a pro gig on guitar with a sitarist. I still have much love for guitar and have got so much more 'me' on it since switching to bass. I play a bit of drums and percussion too, but not at gig level. Always wish I'd learned piano though, it's the perfect instrument, especially for bassists.
I only ever had one friend who'd playing I thought was fantastic - He's always been up there with my all-time favourite players. Unfortunately he died from a brain tumour 10 years ago when he was 36. That was when I started to lose interest in playing & it's never really come back. I had a video of a gig we did in Cardiff in 1990 & it was one of my most treasured possessions. My partner accidentally threw it out with a load of old VHS tapes about 18 months ago & I was heartbroken.
That's terribly sad mate. You should get your mojo back in his honour if you can.
I love this intro to 'Tin Pan Alley' by a friend of mine Stevey Hay. It's got a huge amount of soul...........mistakes and all http://www.myspace.com/music/player?sid=24657973&ac=now
I can't dig the blues but your man has a lot of soul, and a very nice touch.
My mate Stitch always seems to pull something out of the bag. Perhaps not to the degree you are talking about though. When he plays acoustic he can really make the notes come alive. I have listened to him for hours! We usually start to jam but my playing tails off as he takes things into different directions that I find hard to follow
That's what I'm talking about!

Despite the huge amount of guitarists around, I find really expressive players are very rare. I've known a lot of guitarists but only a handful could really touch me with their playing. Almost all of them have had a 'plastic' quality to their playing despite great technique and knowledge. My brother can deeply move me with his playing, and there was a kid I was was at school with 30 years ago who influenced me to play arpeggiated chords, he had such natural ability and I could listen to him for ages. The young fella I play with in Kit's band is really good too and does a few things that make me shiver. So do you have any friends who can really thrill you with their guitar playing? Players doing something a bit different and really expressive?
As others have pointed out, it would simply be a subforum that you never visit. Not sure I understand the problem. There seem to be enough people keen on the idea to at least consider it, surely.
Maybe Geoff is worried about the immigration issue
Sure that's fair comment. It's all about where you draw the line. Obviously no one wants something none music related. I think double bass and bass guitar are similar enough. I don't think that guitar is. There other subjects that lie closely like PA, music tech, backing vocals etc.... I think they are best placed in off topic.
It is called a BASS GUITAR for a reason, geoffbassist. It is a guitar with a lower register and often, purpose. However, there remains the fact it is a guitar. It is a string bass in electric guitar form. It is related to the six string electric guitar a bit more than it is to a hamster, a car, apparel, and a violin.
I want to see a hamster in clothes playing a violin in a car, now.
Would you be able to tell the age of the hamster?
-
It's not that it's guitar, its that it's not bass related. There's enough room in off topic to bring it up. I would feel the same about a cars, violin, hamsters or clothes sub forum. If there's a gap in the market I think it would be a great idea for someone to set one up.
You have your own Double Bass and EUB sub-forum don't you?
-
Waiting for further input from other moderators, but it looks like the most effective thing to do would be to open a subforum and if it gets really popular we can always migrate it to a dedicated site.
That's brilliant! Thanks so much for even considering it.

I am starting to think the naysayers have an image in their heads that all guitarists are at the front of stage swinging a Strat or LP and going rilly rilly ree without a though for the rest of the band. We are not all like this, some of us play classical, flamenco, folk, synth, or approach electric guitar in a completely different way to how most people might imagine.
-
Not if we're all just a bit grown-up about it. As to denigrating guitarists, that's neither snobbery nor a cultural cringe on my part ... it's some very unpleasant experiences with some very unpleasant individuals. That does NOT mean that I think all lead guitarists are arseholes. Just that every musical arsehole I've met in the last five years happened to be a lead guitarist.
Try male violinists!

Good to hear they are working for some of you. I've used them for almost every gig since I started this thread. I forget I'm wearing them most of the time and they feel great to play in. Long live Audrey Hepburn -
LOL really that all these people who can't handle a proper bass = DB on this forum actually think they don't play guitar already... come on, not that different altogether - be honest! But I do agree there's not much to say about guitars since if you know bass, you know guitar don't you? I mean, every single band I play bass in, I know more about guitars and play them better than any of the guitarists I play with, sad as it is guitar is for beginners - this is a pro forum - can't imagine anything on guitars worth posting here! though I stick to my opinion that guitar related threads should be fine but stuck in a "other instruments than bass" sub forum visible only for members.
Mate, it's about personal expression. When you go taking about playing guitar 'better' than any of the guitarists you play with, that's when you start sounding like an elitist twit, or poor at choosing the bands you play with. Many guitarists are troublesome because of the guitar's obvious prominence in popular music that uses stringed instruments, which makes the motives for playing it different to the bassist's, but a guitarist with the motive of communication is still to be treasured.

Why are guitars constructed without soundposts ?
xilddx replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
I have a Breedlove acoustic which has something along these lines called a bridge truss. But it's more for stability than tone shaping. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210916 -
I think there's enough BC members who either moonlight as guitarists or have at least a passing interest to make it a worthwhile addition as a subforum. As others have said, the community on basschat is a rare breed, and an equivalent guitar forum doesn't seem to exist - often because of the sheer size they swell to. A subforum, maybe only visible to members as previously suggested, would mean we aren't going to ve "overrun" by non-bass playing members, but those of us who are interested in both have.got somewhere to discuss it. What harm could that do?
This is the key for me, that this will be more of a bassist's perspective on guitar. It would likely be quite different to a guitarist's take on guitar. When I was a guitarist I was really only interested in shredding, but also with open pedal chords like Lifeson. These days I have a pro gig on guitar and I have developed a much more textural approach like a keyboard, but also manage to play lead lines with taste and not just as an athletics showcase. I am convinced my switch to bass over a decade ago highly influenced my approach to guitar composition, along with the fact I used to do about two or three hours of home recording every day on bass, guitar and drum machine. I think us bassists would have a lot to give on our own guitar forum.
