ahahahaha! We are even with 11 votes each mate If we tie, I ckon we should both choose a photo each, then put them together as a potentially very strange juxtaposition, that should inspire a few people

How are we supposed to do this? Second post down, first batch, fourth from the left? And there's no sunburst option. Or blue burst, or fire glow, or metallic .. Honestly, standards these days .. Cardinal Wolsey would never have posted that.

I switched from DR Black Beauties because of repeated problems with the G going dead, I use Warwick EMPs now and I'm totally delighted with them. Nice one mate! Great playing.

Come on people! LISTEN, AND VOTE! There is one day left to vote in the BC Composition Competition. Listen to what your fellow BC members are putting out! And register to vote! There are f*** all votes up there, and Zappa tried so hard to get us to vote! Over a THOUSAND views and only 30 votes. For us participants it feels like going to the sperm donation clinic and being given a few pictures of Mel C to inspire us http://basschat.co.uk/topic/190256-october-composition-competition-voting-time/
With two EPs coming up & one in the bag is it not worth making an album, maybe with some video tracks? Or are you finding that EPs sell better/ more cost effective at gigs?
We pretty much nixed the idea of an album early on. I believe Kit has two themes going on these EPs, I'm not sure though, she wants to surprise us There are practical reasons why EPs are better for us too, and your point is one of them. I suppose we could pull them into an album later if we need to. They will sound quite different to Submission Chords, different people have been involved in recording and mixing them, she wanted a certain sound and found a couple of guys who wanted to do it and she really liked what they'd done already (Amber States, Fyfe Dangerfield, Three Trapped Tigers ..). They are being mastered as we speak by the guy that works with Aphex Twin. I've only heard rough mixes but they sound good, very live sounding. I can't wait to hear them, and see the videos!
This thread has obliged me to more or less have the EP on a loop this afternoon. My other half is heavily into Dead Can Dance & says she likes Kit's recordings a lot. I do massively enjoy hearing anything that's outside my normal sphere of listening - and this is seriously good..
Stu, thanks man! I'm delighted the EP has some staying power! We have two more EPs in the pipe and a couple of pro videos. And that will be it. No more recordings unless we get some sort of financial backing. We plan to gig more though. Thanks again mate
Well, I took a listen, bought the CD and left a message effectively crediting you with the sale! Well worth at least a fiver of anyone's money IMHO. I agree about the mix as well - a damn fine job all round. I'd have preferred a little more guitar in the mix, but that's just me being an old fart guitarist I guess . Did I detect a slight hint of Kate Bush in the vocal delivery? Whatever, a very fine production from all involved. Nice one mate.
Ooh, thank you! Kit does get some Kate Bush comments, but KB has never been an influence, Kit's always very humbled by those comments though. I'm so glad you like it mate, that's very gratifying. Thanks again!

You're not late to the party mate, you needed time to get your hair just right Thank you for your very kind comments! And yeah, I love everything about that bass
All of my playing outside of band rehearsals and gigs is for songwriting - either working out ideas for songs or refining a particular part that I've come up with in my head but my fingers haven't yet learnt how to do.
That's pretty much me too. I can't imagine practising bass scales and arpeggios or anything any more. It bores the hell out of me unless it's necessary to develop the skills to perform something. In that case I know how to practice to bust through the blockage and enjoy doing it.

This is all I use.
Christ, I'd never manage with the crazy riffs my guitarist sends me if I didnt practise everyday! As I've mentioned in another thread, I remember Gary Moore saying If you walk into a room where you keep your guitar and not feel the need to pick it up, then maybe it's not for you.
Gary talked a lot of bollocks.

Rarely, unless I'm recording, learning a new song, or setting up new patches. I never practice unless it's necessary to nail a song.

Larry Graham - bass playing equivalent of Jimi Hendrix?
xilddx replied to paulconnolly's topic in General Discussion
It's a throwaway statement. No more point to it than saying Larry Graham did for bass what Nancy Sinatra did for boots, or Bernard Matthews did for British turkey farming. -
Fusionized Bieber and other pop hits - impressive musicianship
xilddx replied to alibabu's topic in General Discussion
They are funky as f***, these guys. Their vids have been posted a number of times on here, this one is brilliant, it's my favourite of theirs. They are putting an album of originals out soon. -
I recently purchashed a Dwarfcraft 'The Great Destroyer' kit (http://www.dwarfcraft.com/pedals). It's a weird glitchy fuzz basically. Enclosure all comes drilled etc, so had a good friend paint it with something of her choice, she's the artist not me. I do like the juxtaposition between the name of the pedal and the image : Cheers Si
That looks wickid!
I played my first gig on bass in just under two years last night!. Depped for a guy at work whose bassist never turns up, pub gig with lots of the usual indie pub singalongs in there. Which I've never played. Picked up my bass at about midday and learnt 24 songs in three hours, had a half a song soundcheck at the pub and then went for it. A couple of hairy moments but on the whole it went great, they offered me the full time job after the first set! Had to decline as the function band I'm playing g****r for have got a pretty full diary already, but I was made up to dust off the bass! I've missed it, was good to be home. Oh, and I'd borrowed my mates ridiculously over the top Ashdown rig (ABM900 and 810) as my Ampeg has a blown driver - sounded incredible. I think I'm converted, I might not let him have it back. No wooliness in sight, it just growled with my Sandberg.
24 songs in three hours!
Depped for one of our (now rarely visiting) members at an afternoon jam/open mic session yesterday 3pm till 7pm. Unfortunately no other bass players turned up (which is quite unusual) so apart from one 4 song set where the house band guitarist took over on bass I was on stage for every set. Considering I've not played in a regular band since Jan this year and did an almost 2 hour dep set on Friday night I thought I made a half decent fist of it, completely washed out by the time I got home though. Been contacted by another band just getting started so more stuff to learn for them this week with a jam/audition pencilled in for this Sat.
That all sounds very positive mate!
Great ,enjoyed watching these look like you are having fun' nice job on the walkin on the moon cover have always loved the drums on that track' you were groovin on the bass too...cheers Paul
Thanks Paul! Our gigs are almost always fun, it's a great band to be a part of, everyone is so nice to be around too.
Really nice. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Liked the bass - very cool. Good quality vid and sound recording so well done to all. Liked the idea of live strings too. Don't see it very often. Hope to see more. Dave
Yeah, bluejay did a great job! Glad you enjoyed it, thank you. You will see more, Sylvia intends to film a bigger gig we are playing in mid Nov.
Nice stuff! ,)
Cheers man
Brilliant great song, and great look. Nige, having never met you only "knowing" you from your posts it was nice to see you How do you find playing with gloves on? Not something I'd think Id ever do, but I love the all black look and LOVE the hat. *Debs pinches hat idea*

I am curious about these myself. My first thought was that you have some sort of muscle problem similar to Scott Devine ? Or are they simply for show ? Love the music BTW.
Thanks Debs and Coilte I first saw Etienne Mbappe using the gloves, he destroys his strings in 20 minutes with acid sweat. Scott Devine has focal dystonia, a neural problem which results in involuntary muscle contraction in his hands, he wears gloves to trick his brain, in fact his doctor said he'd never play again, Scott's a triumph! They are silk under-gloves from Jasmine silk (link in my sig). They are like a second skin, and playing with them feels very smooth and controlled with no loss of dexterity or accuracy. I feel naked playing without them although I don't often wear them in rehearsal. I wear them mostly for the look, but I like the reduced string noise and smooth slidey feel. I use Warwick EMP coated strings too.
Hey Nigel. Not much I can add to what's been said already, except of course to say how much I enjoyed it! Great to see that live music is alive and well - reminded me how much I miss it. Thanks to Bluejay as well for sharing. I don't hang out here so much at the moment..... you say there's an EP?
Thanks so much mate. If you click the Kit Richardson image in my sig it will take you to our Bandcamp page where you can listen to all the tracks, buy the download, or buy the download and a physical CD which comes with a lyric sheet and personal handwritten message from Kit. This EP was mixed and mastered by BC member 51m0n and he did an amazing job of it! We're releasing two more EPs in the next month or so, they are being mastered at the moment. There will be two pro videos as well. Thanks again
So true!
Although that could be non members listening but unable to vote, and possibly a fair number of robots, I have resigned myself to the sad fact that most people on Basschat would rather talk about stuff than actually listen to new music, it takes effort and the rewards are often too small for people to be bothered. I really shouldn't be complaining because the Kit Richardson work has gone down incredibly well and we've sold over 40 EPs through Basschat (THANK YOU!), but I'm in the minority here I think.
