1. Bugger, I might not be able to make it, crazy week. I promise to do my best though mate.
 2.
Well, we're playing in London at the above event, but not for long, just a paltry 20 minute set! Luckily I need to be in London on that day for business anyway.
Bugger, I'm at a wedding Enjoy the gig mate, I've played the Africa Centre, it's cool. Hope you make it down here again soon!
 3. Just found out Scott the bassist is a Basschat member. Everyone seems to be
 4. We (Kit Richardson) are supporting NIFE at the Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush on 18th November. I bought the NIFE album and it's cracking! Really looking forward to the gig! And I hope to see some Basschat members there. Check out NIFE's Chemicals video .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNd1L8HzwjU
 5.
my main advice is listen to players and find out how you want to sound, then work out how to arrive to sound like that. if you put the work in then you will find it obvious how a particular player is pulling their way of playing off. but everyone has their own approach.
This is absolutely the key for me, it's how I approach music, and the more you play and compose, the more you become true to yourself. It's a reflection of your influences and sounds that give you pleasure, but it's all mashed by your personality.
 6. This is really funny. I played a DJ's private birthday party with London Zulu tonight. I bumped into a bassist and we had a cracking chat about bass He was a really cool geezer and great to hang about with .. I asked if he was a Basschat member. He was, he's the OP, yamahabass This has happened to me a few times but never after I'd posted that I'd rather they make love to me rather than rape me (see my post above) Joe Goose, great to meet you man, hope to catch you at the Mau Mau gig on Dec 7, I probably owe you a beer
 7.
I read (in at least two FZ Biographies) that Scott was responsible for Zappa canceling dates on his last tour and not gigging again. Could be fanbois with axes to grind though.
Well, it's quite a long and convoluted story but he was not at all directly responsible. Zappa made the young Scott Clonemeister (responsible for rehearsing the band) for the 88 tour. He was inexperienced and did not know how to resolve conflict, impose discipline, and deal with the horn section's tardiness. Most of the band (Scott Keneally excepted) turned against Scott and refused to cooperate with him. It got so bad on the tour with pettiness and stupidity (there are many stories), that Zappa eventually had to ask the rest of the band if they could continue playing with Scott, they said it's Scott or us, and Zappa killed the tour as rehearsing a new bassist was prohibitive in terms of cost time and effort. Zappa loved what Scott did, and when the band said they couldn't play with him because he was weird, Zappa told them that they were all weird and they should deal with it. Scott is a difficult character, no doubt of that, but so were most of the band. Have a read of Thomas Wictor's book 'Interviews with Really Scary Musicians' to get Scott's side (it's a fascinating read), Andrew Greenaway's 'Zappa the Hard Way' for interviews with most of the '88 band. Also Mike (BC's urb) interviewed him for Bass Guitar Magazine about two years ago when he was over here with ZPZ. Mike said he was a cool guy. There is a short excerpt from Wictor's book interview online called 'Requiem for a Heavyweight' http://www.cidanka.nl/keneally/stbp0397.htm
 8.
I think the mothers used to be the band 'the turtles' who sang happy together. I'm gonna watch this later it looks good
Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman from the Turtles joined the Mothers and were christened 'Flo and Eddie'.
 9.
I saw that a while ago........excellent stuff. I've seen Zappa plays Zappa a couple of times (have tickets for the next show) and they are awesome, though theres less of the comedy. I read an interview with Scott Thunes and was shocked to find out he's a bit of a cock!
Which interview did you read?
 10. I like the old stuff played by the 88 band best.
 11.
That's my next 15 mins sorted Edit - 4 parts, next hour then, hooray!
Me too mate, chin chin!
 12. This is a really wickid BBC interview with Zappa in 1993, not long before he died of prostate cancer. It's really fascinating, I saw it when it was broadcast. Part 1 of 4
 13.

I'm sorry, it sounds like he read a popular psychology book, then made a video. It seems clumsy and not well thought out to me.
 14. This is going to be an ace night. We're supporting this power trio, NIFE. They're so good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNd1L8HzwjU
 15.
Didn't little jimmy Osmond do a version of this ?
It was Peters and Lee wasn't it, mate? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww4v2cP-MDo
 16. I only saw this tonight. I was checking them out as we're supporting them at the Bush Hall in London on the 18th November. Cheeky f***ing plug for the gig, I know. Anyway, I saw this video and bought the album almost immediately! Sadly it's f***ing sh*te. Only kidding, it's very good indeed! Really looking forward to the gig! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNd1L8HzwjU
 17. f***ing hell! That's an amazing gesture from 13! Massive hat tip! Very encouraging too, for a number of reasons. The pictures present quite a challenge this month, this will be a lot of fun!
 18.
^ Haha, yeah thanks guys! I'd love to do a dance off but I've, err, hurt my leg. And my back. Or something... Genuinely shocked to have drawn with Nige, who I thought was the deserving winner this month. Thanks to everyone who voted and more importantly everyone who had a go and submitted a track. Here's hoping these challenges keep on growing - so more entries and more votes this month please! Thanks again y'all. Paul [PS: Charic, I'll PM you with an image ASAP today]
Well that was a lot of fun and and again, we have a coalition I thought Skol's was so memorable, I was even singing it this morning It's an honour to be in such good company, some great music this month! Thanks to everyone who listened and voted, keep going! Charic, pic in your inbox mate. Cheers, and congratulations to Skol, it was a great battle mate Nx
 19. Excellent! Thank you bert
 20.
I see your point, Nige.
I forgot Dan Erlwine's repair column too, mate. They had the best contributors in Guitar Player, it was awesome back then, not quite so good now, but I wish someone would sell it near me, I can't find it anywhere and WH Twat don't stock it. I need the November one with Alex Lifeson on the cover.
 21.
Phew, I've finally had a listen, and voted for Rockford Stone because... because deep down I'm just a metalhead! \m/ All entries are outstanding, though, and I loved hearing all the different styles inspired by the photo. I'm in total awe of you guys as composers. Well done all. Keep up the good work.
I think you voted the right way Sylvia. I think your vote should go to the one you like best, not to the most technically executed or recorded, or to what one feels is the best interpretation of the picture, etc. The picture is for the composers, not the audience IMO, but I may be wrong
 22.
I've signed for a two-year subscription. It's impossible to please everyone each issue. I still look forward to receiving it.
I had a load of Guitar Player mags from the 80s and 90s, they were the sort of magazines you could reread many times with great joy, and I did. Tommy Tedesco's studio log was an incredible column, as was Larry Coryell's and various others. The interviews were brilliantly informative, as were the transcriptions, news, and other bits and pieces. It was a very high quality read. I'm afraid BGM feels like reading a start up mag, there's just no magic in those pages for me. It's a shame, maybe it's just my age.
 23.
Little bass solo.
You need to post an old one too mate. Summat old and summat new
 24.
Tbh I've let my subscription lapse. IMO, the deal to resubscribe was not as good as the first time subscription. Surely it wouldn't be hard to offer even just a fiver off the price. (£38.50 + gift for a newbie vs £38.50 to resub?) The mag is perhaps worth the occasional one off purchase, but I don't believe it is as consistent as it could be. Obviously this is all my opinion, ymmv etc....
Yeah, I'm the same, I find it dull to read and haven't bought a copy for a while. I have a flick through in WH Arse but I just don't get a hard on from the mag. I think it's a trust thing, the reviews are not authoritative and most of the interviews aren't giving me any secrets or inspiring information. That's just me of course.
 25.
Voted. Great tracks
Ooh blimey, thank you!
