1. It's a good point Twincam. Perhaps the comp challenge should go in General Discussion.
 2.
Come on over Nige ... it's right here!
Might take you up on that when I get some time, thanks man!
 3. Nice one, Jack. It was your red and black Status semi hollow Vintage P actually I still miss playing that kit.
 4.
http://classicandcoo...siennaburst.htm Obviously I'm being shallow here and only thinking about the looks. But if I had a sapre grand hanging about...damn my poorly paid job.
Those 1983 Fullertons were really nice! I had a Jazz and it was ace. Decent price too, reckon you could have that for £900.
 5.
Old men and hair has always perplexed me. See, girls who colour their locks have it done in textures and layers and subtle changes of shade here and there. Now, I guess this guy has money - so why did he have such a crap job done all in a colour that doesn't exist in nature? And don't get me started on old blokes with pony tails.
I dyed my hair deep red with L'Oreal Feria a couple of weeks ago, I'm 50. Geezer's hair looks ok to me. Why does it have to look natch? In fact one of the directors said she liked my hair colour the other day, and said she thought it looked natural, I expressed my disappointment and she said I should have dyed it pink then Some ponytails look ok. It's whatever you feel comfortable with init. In fact one of my mates from Basschat is oldish (not as old as me), with a ponytail. It suits him.
 6.
? ? ?
Yeah I'm not sure I understand much of this either. Or Conan's Scooby link. But hey. Not keen on the OP's bass sound, but she probably wouldn't like my tones either. You need to hear it context init. Good recording though, considering it's miced. Needs a better mix.
 7. Lovely thread, Shell. Four years ain't long either. May joy be unconfined
 8. Turn it on Again is a great song from a great album. I would not call it deceptively simple though. It's deceptively difficult.
 9.
ps. Well done for the earlier mention for Sting. Watch the Police reunion dvd and try and work out how he sings in a completely different rhythm to the bass line he's playing. As hard as eating doughnuts without licking your lips!
He has complete independence doesn't he. Beautiful sounding voice too. One of the best reunions ever too, they sounded wonderful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWh5ilLBs-k
 10.
I'm sure this video has been commented on before but can't be arsed to look for it!

I just buy some new strings.
+1
 11. Indian classical music ascribes values to the scale tones. This is an extract from an interview with Sheema Mukherjee, the sitarist I play for .. My limited understanding of Indian music, there is a whole spiritual dimension wrapped into learning an instrument. Can you explain? Did this add to the challenge? Yes, there is a whole spiritual dimension within the learning and performance of Indian Music, although I believe that spirituality is not to be equated with religion at all. There is a relationship of Indian music and especially the veena, to Saraswati the Hindu goddess of learning, but as many have said before me, music is the universal language of the soul and a vehicle to attain liberation. It crosses barriers of language and creed and unites the listener and artist. In this respect most music is spiritual. The meaning of the sanskrit word Raag (raga) is ‘to colour the emotion’ and that is one of my main goals as a performer. There is a whole philosophy behind each note – with reference to the solfa scale – Doh is infinity, Re is sorrow, Ma is peace, Fa is romance, Soh is joy, etc our notes are Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa. Also, each note has a chakra, colour and body part! And then of course the micro-tones…
 12.
I can see why not many people enter. The competition is very strong. All very good compositions in thier own way. Well done to all that entered a piece.
It's why hardly anyone votes that confounds me. And this despite all of Skol and Dad's promotional work. The only time there were lots of votes was when 13 Guitars offered a free custom bass to the winner a couple of years ago. Ten times as many votes then. Maybe it's about the stakes.
 13.
I did have to laugh right enough. I was watching a clip of the live from Daryls house series when they were having dinner in this beautiful setting, discussing how much they enjoyed their job, but still coming out with, oh but it's such hard work, and I thought, please? I know it's a lot of touring and travelling, but I have to do that in my job and I certainly don't get treated like they do. Hard work is very subjective and spoilt rock stars should remember that there's a lot worse ways to make a living.
Yeah but they had a very tough time in the early days, most big bands did/do, and the money comes much later. All for an hour on stage. Yes there is fun but that can become boring after a time unless you neck a few substances. You can do absolutely nothing and go mad, it's not just the work. It is a hard life relentlessly touring and doing what your management and PR tell you to do. You have to have a certain mentality to survive it and so does your family. I wouldn't underestimate it. I've got friends who have been doing it for thirty years, they are not rich by any means, but they work damned hard, it's very stressful at times. No job security AT ALL.
 14.
Me too. But it's the need for an armed bodyguard that I find OTT... J.
Yeah, that does seem OTT. Is he more of a travelling companion with a black belt and a shooter?
 15.
OK, maybe "despise" was an overly-strong word, but having read a couple of his books I also know that he tours (& travels in his spare time) in the company of a hired armed bodyguard, whose sole purpose is to protect Peart from the attentions of any member of the public who might happen to recognise him and say hello. So if you wanted to take a moment to, say, politely thank a musician for his craft and the enjoyment & long-lasting influence that music had had on your life and on your world-view, you might be put off a little by the prospect of being manhandled away by a 6'5" ex-marine shoving a Glock in your face. Happily I'm far too reserved to consider doing any such thing, anyway... J.
That's a bit OTT mate. If he doesn't want or need a fan to say that to his face, that's fine with me. The trouble is that when fans do that they almost demand a response, and that's an awkward position to be in for some people. It seems to make him very uncomfortable. I think a lot of music fans seem to think the band owes them.
 16. Neil Peart does not despise his audience, he's never said that to my knowledge. He finds the needy fans who seem to want to invade his personal life very uncomfortable. That's what Limelight is about.
 17. Should add the obbm is the BC member who has a cable making service called bassic-bits marketed as RockWire. He's a total gent, makes wonderful cables to your spec, and he really knows his stuff, he can fix your Neve desk which is quite a speciality!
 18.
Very true, I do wonder how much of music production falls loosely under the umbrella of 'rock' nowadays, and how much might again be loosely described as dance. It wouldn't surprise me at all if far more of it falls into the dance category, and I've got to admit that much of what goes on in that scene is a mystery to me. Rock music is long in the tooth and innovation at premium - perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that rock events struggle more than they used to.
India is a big market for rock festivals. Rock is cool over there.
 19. This is Rock festivals in Britain and USA though. There are tons of hip hop festivals. And there are plenty in Europe.
 20. All good points mate. I balance the tiny difference between the two with portability, versatility, no maintenance, and cost. The Pod wins every time for me. Can't wait to hear the Firehawk. They had better have plenty of bass stuff on there though, and I'm not hopeful.
 21. That's a real bummer. But also lovely your gig was sold out! I hope Ralph, Jack and Silvia and Ralph's lady friend had a lovely night out in Camden despite the disappointment. I work in Camden, there are some lovely pubs and music joints around there.
 22.
I had a Line6 Flextone and the 1x12 ext cab. Sounded for the most part very good. It was light and easy to move about etc..................then I got the valve bug FFS!!!!! heavy, delicate, etc etc all for charactor and a subtle tone which in truth was only noticalbe to me at home. Oh well...you pays yer money!
Out of interest, what do you think real valve amps offer over modelled valve amps? Personally and with some experience playing guitar and bass with both, I can't think of any advantages of the real valve amps at all. I think a lot of people confuse the effects of valve amps with the effects of speakers and cabinetry.
 23. I imagine it will be awesome when it's available. http://uk.line6.com/firehawk-fx-multi-effects-pedal/
 24.
I'm amazed at some things that pour forth from you when you post without thinking.. CHALK and CHEESE ...
Interesting that you impose philosophical limits on others' creativity. Rather than consign it to personal taste.
