1. Watched her on Jools last night as part of the 2011 'best of'. Great voice, quirky girl, like it. Adele has a totally stunning voice. I really like her tracks but totally over played which will ruin it....along with X Factor contestants thinking they have a voice like her. Another band on called The Civil Wars....great duo...acoustic folky/blues...like it a lot. Both had really good gritty voices.
2.
I've just bought an RH450 in the long search to have a lightweight head that can replicate the sound I have with my SWR Workingpro with the bass intensifier on and just using the back pickup. Hard and deep to cut through the mix with a keyboard player. After owning and selling an Eden, Markbass LMII and lastly a Genz Shuttle 6.0. (It was pointless investing in lightweight Berg cabs and then lugging round the heavy SWR amp) I'm a fingers groove player. I'm still at the twiddling stage so haven't found "the sound" yet, but the ability to shift the frequency of each EQ pot is pretty clever and being able to save 3 different sounds in mermory is brilliant. So you can adjust the bass EQ pot to centre around a lower frequency to cut or boost. Incidentally I hate the sound of the tube simulator -too much distortion.
Literally have it 'just on'....and it adds a nice hair to the notes. The amp is simultating tubes anyway without the tubetone, so no need to use it if you arent keen.
3. Ah, so the 2010 'pan' on the P bass is effectively a three way switch. But, they put it in a control knob, and it has almost tricked me! To be honest, all I want is a really nice P/J with volume, tone, and a proper pan. The active isn't essential to me although if its good I'd obviously quite like it. I think I'll be sticking with a normal American Standard P until they have another with a PJ + pan. The amount of sweetspots inbetween is crazy...I don't know why they opted to not have a pan! The 2010 Jazz and Jazz 5 Deluxe also look fantastic. My gripe? Well, again, weird version of the classic VVT. Doesn't it have V+Pan+Tone? Is the Pan a three way again? Nice looking basses though.
4. I thought it was a pan? Eg have what blend you like?
5. This is my thoughts exactly. Its CLOSE to the idea of a Metro or a Lakland with a pre-amp, but cheaper, and I must admit they look fantastic. I've heard great things about these...from over on Talkbass. There was issues with early pre-amps being noisy though. Hmm.
6. No valves in the TC amp....not sure why the 3.0 has it and the 6.0/9.0 doesn't. Weird.
7. The P is probably more interesting to me as its a full on P/J +active/passive setup but seems to retain the normal P characteristics.
8. LOL, best not!
9. Usually I dont go for maple with black blocks, but this works: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_Jazz_DLX5_Nat.html
10. The blocks on the sunburst (which is what I would go for) looks great. Apparently the pre is much better in these new models....exactly as you say JTUK is for sparing use....tiny tweaks.
11.
Merci beaucoup for given me my point back ;-) Has anyone something to say about the compression they use on the head? Is it that different from others from the one on the ampeg svt pro7 for instance? Thanks
For a one knob compressor, its quite a nice bit of kit! I don't use it much, but it works well. The amp itself would slay the Ampeg for quality.
12. Personally, id imagine the the RS cabs are superior. They are no doubt built to a higher spec, can handle more power, and to me are quite neutral, but with a slight bump in the low mids which is what I like!
13. Cheers all. I should have mentioned, but you've guessed, that its the 2010/11 models im referring to. Ive owned and gladly sold a Precision Deluxe with the Humbucker which was, unfortunately, not that great at all. Will probably stick to the standards and use the Tonehammer pedal as the 'pre' if needed.
14. It seems not many of these have been around basschat yet. What are the views on the P and J, and also the J5? The Jazz 5 looks fabulous, but I've yet to try one out. String spacing seems ok for me as Im used to 17.5, so 18.0 will be fine.
15. Never had this happen to me...been playing Ps since day one. I would assume its the pickup height.
16. I think the ability to do both is always an advantage. I was a 95% pick player for 15 years, until 2009/10 when I started to want to play fingerstyle. Then I joined a new band this year and basically forced myself to not take a pick. I'm still MUCH faster with a pick...really fast. But I enjoy fingerstyle more.
17. I would try it w/o the Sansamp as Bruce describes above
18. Have you got a 'preset' volume on that amp?
19. You may have missed the whole 'real RMS wattage' saga that took place. Basically, I think most owners of the RH450 thought it was more like a 600-700W amp compared to the other micros. In fact, according to one magazines tests, it is actually something in the 230W zone at 4 ohms...however, magazine tests that delve too deep can often start to take the point off real life situations. TC use a clever system called Active Power Management (like a modified compression) to 'get the most' out of every watt there is. The amp will never, IMO, clip, like a Markbass amp can. You could push it to full whack, it will react like a tube act (eg the notes will 'sag' a little and you may get a little overdrive and more warmth). That is what the amps do best. The 750 is again not 750W RMS, however TC have stated the power module is capable of it, (as is the 450 capable of 450). If you took the APM off (which you can't) the amp wouldnt have the character it has, but it would produce the wattage apparently. So, what you actually get is an amp that sounds louder than most other micro amps, yet apparently doesn't push the same 'wattage' technically. I can tell you that the RH450 and RH750 are incredibly loud, and I don't regret going with TC's equipment.
20. As per the title.
21. Thanks Dave! Both will be GAK...they have been excellent with pricing and have always offered to order in new items if I didnt want display. Now the question is whether its worth just having the Squier CV P and not bothering with another American Standard P.
22. Lol, I know. Im quite patient, I think its the 8 month wait for a Stingray that did it. A few days seems like nothing! I am also trying to sort the Ray HH at the same time. They are checking over the other one they have in stock in the UK. Hopefully it will be 100%, if not, it looks like another 3-4 month wait. ARGH
