Looking like you're a BB man through and through, then, Mr Black!

Hey Simon, Welcome to basschat! And welcome also to Yammy basses! Kinda impressed you've managed to dig out this ancient thread for your first post and amused to find my mate @dave_bass5 as the last poster on it before you (he's clearly a secret Yammy lover! 😂) Glad you're really liking the new bass so far. I've heard that Cort make a pretty decent bass (I think they also make basses for Ibanez, Squier and G&L - all of whom have a lot of fans on BC); so it's good that the Yammy is proving a hit - not that I'm going to be surprised about that! Obligatory pics of the new bass required of course!

I love the guy. The Beatles were the first band I was completely smitten by. But he really can't sing (well) any more and I can't remember when he last produced a decent album that was worthy of his stature. -
@ped Can I just congratulate you on a milestone 10,000 posts!! (and for being a great mod whom we all appreciate!) Sorry to have made you waste such an august post, by having to use it responding to me! 😁

@LukeFRC so true! 😁 It doesn't necessarily have to cost the earth to sound great. I also totally love the fact that @ped has a Ken Smith bass which he pairs with a B1on. We're obviously trying to gently coax him to upgrade his Zoom and to splash out on a B1(X)-4...and he's (naturally!) trying to persuade me to get a Ken Smith. Let's see who buckles first 😂

Music streaming or that youngsters of all generations have rebelled against their parents when they want to leave their mark? It's going to be totally uncool to know you're not a patch on rockers who are 30 to 40 years older than you. -
Haha this has got to be ultimate Lilliputian debate! To scratch plate or not scratch plate = which side of the egg should you eat from, the pointy or the flat end? I'm going to totally sit on the fence and say they can both look good! I've seen some great PGs on this thread that really add to the look and others where the unadorned finish of the bass (like the one above) looks just great!

I'm actually back down to a full Trav following getting shot of my 735A last week. And I could be down to a partial Trav (heaven forbid!) if the excellent chap who wants my BB 425 as his back up bass goes ahead with the transaction when he's next up in in the Big Smoke. Any further rumours / gossip of Yammy bringing out their modern day successor to the 1200S? (Hopefully with a 5 string option).

Very true. But the "new" Guns N Roses capable of filling out stadia, seem pretty thin on the ground? There comes a point when it's no longer great seeing some of the older guys parody themselves (Paul McCartney, Debbie Harry). It's a nostalgia fest with a finite shelf-life if the industry makes it difficult for new bands to break through. And free music streaming can, paradoxically, be a massive barrier to entry for new talent. -
Smoothhound on my home pedal board and one other small change to my rig which I'll have to thank @bassfan for pointing my nose in the right direction! Great to catch up with @NotAsGoodAsJaco who's currently after a BB NE2, in fact from another chap called Al(!) so you can imagine our confusion at the start of our chat today: "Al, are you the guy selling me a NE2", "Not likely mate!" 😂 He's also after a Yammy BB1025, which I'm also not selling, but very happy to give my fellow BCer, who was on his way to one of his 280(!) gigs this year, a plug in case anyone else is thinking of moving theirs on... This, for the avoidance of doubt, is the one that's not for sale alongside the updated rig

At the price these go for, I'm absolutely going to need to pluck up the courage to take the thing out the house and gig it, if I end up getting a second mortgage to get one of these. I've just had some ridiculously positive feedback from three Ken Smith owners today. Two are pro bassists who have moved their Smiths on, so have no reason at all to continue to be gushing about their former basses, but absolutely still are! Funnily both now either have a Yammy BB1025 or want to get one; and both would love to get their hands on a white Yammy BBNE2; so it seems to me we all have pretty similar tastes in what we love about basses...

Gillespie is wrong when he says rock is dead and clearly he's looking to push his recently released album (which probably has nothing new to say!) by spouting such a provocative statement. You only have to look at sold out stadiums to know that rock in all its forms is very much alive. But doesn't he have a point when he says it's not really saying anything new, interesting or challenging anymore? Who is today's Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen or Jimmy Hendrix? I play in three covers bands and it's much much easier to get paid bookings than for a lot of up and coming original bands here in London who can often play to empty venues for little or no money. I love the music we're playing as, it would seem, so do our audiences. But we're clearly not saying anything new whatsoever! Right...back to what I spend far too much time doing and that is GAS'ing over gear I don't need! Heading over to A/B a used Berg CN212 against my Vanderkley 210 LNT, that's come up for sale not far from me! -
As Stewblack rightly said: ...speaking of bites and bits I've just (belatedly) spotted this has a bit crusher sim that the current software version of my Zoom B1X-4 doesn't => I've found my "one effect" that makes it worth keeping for So I'm going to hold on to this one for a little while longer (there are still two in the FS if anyone is looking out for one...).
-
My two dedicated drive pedals have won a reprieve also! I'm pretty pleased with the drive patches I've made, but playing through headphones last night there was no question that B1X-4 effects sims were not retaining a fulsome low end in the way that my digital SA Aftershock drive multifx (with its clean blend) or my analogue Creation Grizzly bass (without separate clean blend) both manage to do. And that was even after having boosted the bass EQ settings on all my B1X-4 drive patches.
-
Just noted that the MS-60B has a bitcrusher sim whereas I don't think the B1X-4 / B3n have one? I wonder if it's as good as an entry level bitcrusher like the Mooer Lo-fi? Bitcrush + OC2 (on my Valeton OC-10) could be quite a neat combination. I've heard @dodge_bass sounding pretty cool with that combination of sounds. Looks like I might need to hold on to my MS-60B for a little while longer...
-
Haha - you and me both mate! (Not helped by a few of these appearing in the FS over the past couple of months) Even went as far as to check out the Ken Smith gear porn thread Right, I'd best get back to my Japanese basses, quick...besides I'm sure I will sound the same whatever bass I'll play 😁

Face it, what is a para-driver if it's not a drill? -
Sadly the G70 wasn't getting much of a write up earlier in this thread from previous owners' experience, although that might have been just bad luck. And believe me I'm not a Line 6 'hater' - far from it!! Their Stomp is a fantastic, class leading piece of kit and their parent company makes my favourite brand of basses (the one in the pic in fact!) It's just that on this occasion SH have provided me (and a lot of other BCers) with a really good product which hits the spot and they combine it with fantastic customer service.

Lol! For home twiddling and PC patch editing it actually means less bending down and me more easily able to see what I'm doing!
