  1. Key strategy adopted by Australia has been to massively stop travel into Australia to prevent importing Covid. When a few countries suggested stopping flights from China a year back they were labelled xenophobic by the Chinese (and their WHO sycophants) who both have a lot to answer for.
  2. You're far too humble, mate.
  3. That's a ridiculously good price for that pedal Paul. I've been sorely tempted to see how close it gets to the "real thing" and if I didn't actually have the real thing in the form a VTDI and no space on my board, I would have bitten your hand off... Which wouldn't have been helpful for your bass playing.
  4. Good man.
  5. I tend to associate chambered bodies with more up market (in terms of pricing) basses. Given the price point of the Yamaha BBs just wonder whether chambering would be viable?
  6. My understanding is that many farmers have not done that well financially for a long time. Being able to supplement their income with beer / music / other festivals is often a life line. Obviously Glastonbury will have provided very well indeed for the Eaves over the years and, why not: a wonderful concept which has been fantastically executed, so good luck to them. And I'm sure we all wish them the best in getting through the crushing effects of the pandemic.
  7. I'm a bit partial to a laminate neck (for stability and strength and they can also look good)...and love the fact that they come as standard on Yammy BBs these days. Body through stringing according to Yamaha: "The traditional method in which strings are bent induces stress when transmitting string vibration. Diagonal Body Thru Stringing significantly reduces [stress] transferring string vibration to the body reliably and efficiently." But does it really make a difference to anything much? Loss of the neck through option both from appearance and ability for the bass to "sing" on the higher end models is the thing I'd like to see addressed more than anything else. Available now only on the flagship NE2.
  8. This bass is definitely not a piece of cra*p and entirely inappropriate for anyone to take the p*iss if you ask me. GLWTS
  9. So was a single action truss rod a feature of the 414 that got sorted when the 424 came out, together with Yamaha providing a laminate neck? I think otherwise the models are pretty identical, right?
  10. Gonna be easy to hit the brown note
  11. Sounds like a great sister thread for you gents to be starting!
  12. Great thread - following!
  13. P10 of the manual: EB Owner's manual_EN.pdf (yamaha.com) Have to 'fess I've not had to touch the set-up on my 1025 and certainly not had to adust the truss rod - was perfectly set-up for me straight from the Yammy Store in London.
  14. Yeah try both @Reggaebass. I've ended up with the opposite love to Andy. Well not that opposite really, given they are both Yammy BBs, lol! Wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all liked the same thing. 4 billion blokes all after Scarlett Johannson...
  15. The 1024 and 2024 (x => scratch plate and a bit more chrome) are very close indeed in terms of spec (I guess think Mex vs USA Fender as the analogy); the 424 is a little "flatter" and the 1024 / 2024 more harmonically rich in terms of pups. If you really like the 2024 then I'd have no hesitation in recommending a used 1024 for less than half the price of a used 2024.
  16. Which goes to prove how great my short term memory is eh? If I can't remember what I posted on here 6 weeks ago, what possible chance have I got of remembering yours from 18 months ago? 😂
  17. Well if I can squeeze into this loophole then I am back in again 😂
  18. Now given we can't go into a store at the mo, the closest thing is trying on sale and return. So if you return the goods having tried it out (for a full refund, and don't keep it) I'm guessing that's OK too?
  19. Would you be allowed to go into a store (in normal times!) and try something out, but not buy it? Or is that going against the spirit of gear abstinence?
  20. Great piece of kit and on for a very good price! Worth the asking price for its use as a headphone amp, tuner and drum machine. And that's before you've started on its plethora of effects! Liked mine so much, I have two 😊 GLWTS
  21. John I agree with all of that. Amazon were however arguing that 18 months lifespan for a laptop was reasonable. But frankly I would have said the same for a £500 laptop, but @TJ1 is suggesting the opposite in his post above.
  22. Just had an email from Line 6. I think 3.01 has been out a while, however the fact that there is a severely corrupted audio output issue it is addressing is worth being aware of: " We have just released an update to version 3.0 of the Helix® and HX firmware. The 3.01 update addresses potential severely corrupted audio output. Due to this, we recommend updating your Helix or HX firmware as soon as possible."
  23. Ah that's really helpful and interesting. Amazon, as the laptop retailer, refused any form of compensation saying that it had lasted a normal / expected "wear and tear" period. If your friend has the legislation reference that he was able to make use of would be very useful to know.
  24. I agree with that Woody, it's just when I paid £1k for an Asus laptop I certainly didn't consider that to be "disposable".
  25. Yeah had an Asus £1k. Screen went after 18 months light use. Ugh!
