Wow, wow, and yet more wow! That is a stunning bass. Hopefully we'll meet at another Bass Bash and I'll get to see/hear it in person.

That looks absolutely stunning. Hopefully I'll get to hear it at a Bass Bash some time.

Warwick are holding a public design competition to design them a singlecut. Their intention is to make it a production model sometime in 2009.

What a very interesting little combo you've built there. So, how does it sound? Can you compare it to anything we might be familiar with?

I have a Leatherman multi-tool copy (like a swiss army knife, but with pliers). Bass strings do mark it, but it's lasted me a few years so far.

Cort Curbow in Mystic Ice Crazer finish - SOLD STTU

I gigged and recorded for a few years with one of these when they were made under the Tanglewood brand. They are amazing instruments which punch well above their price. Look and sound great, but don't expect to be able to play it for very long seated Good luck with the sale, someone will get a cracking bass for a bargain here. -

I'm thinking it's a battery issue as my Thumb BO distorts when the batteries start to go. The distortion stops/lessens when I disengage the active pre-amp by pulling the volume knob, that normally buys me a bit more time before the battery dies completely from powering the active pickups.

I think you're thinking too much like a sound engineer rather than a bassist Will you be doing the sound engineering of the PA? I would just get a sound that you think sounds good to you and let the PA sound engineer tweak it to sound good out front. I shouldn't think that your average bass player will worry about using hi-pass filters when playing live. I would probably use less compression live than when in the studio to maintain dynamics, but that is up to personal preference.

I've had to learn nearly 30 songs for my tribute act, and it has been tough work (and I'm still not there months later)! I've burnt a couple of CDs to listen to in my car to get familiar with the music. Then I'll try to find a good 30 minute minimum session where I can hook myself up to my Tascam Bass Trainer and not be interrupted. My intention is always to listen to each song all the way through at least once before I start plucking away, but my fingers get a little impatient and I'm usually at least trying to find the key/root notes by the end of the song. I'm happy to have a song 90% faithful to the studio recorded version. I'll definitely try to get the basic parts exact, and find a similar 'feel' to any little runs and licks. If there's a run which stands out in the tune then I'll use the 'tempo' and 'loop' features of the Tascam to try to get the part exact (can take ages, and I have a habit of forgetting the rest of the song at that point ). I've tried internet tabs and they are often very wrong. I find that I much prefer to trust my own judgement, and hope that my band will point out anything I play drastically wrong

I don't re-use my strings after they've gone dead. I give them a wipe over with a cloth after a gig to keep the surface muck off and get good use out of them. I'm not one of these people who don't change their strings at all to keep the funk, or one of these people that change their strings every couple of weeks. I probably change them a few times a year. I buy my string packs 3-at-a-time to get the cheapest deal online. I boiled a set of strings once. They came up zingy again, but died very shortly after (days). If I find myself unable to afford new strings then I like the sound of soaking them in alcohol. I wouldn't try the boiling thing again.

I made a full size Omni 10 last summer and it seems to do very well. Haven't gigged it yet, but got to practice with it last week and it sounded great (I anticipate that it will sound better after a few practices as the drivers are not worn in yet). I'm toying with the idea of building an Omni 15TB this summer. This thread certainly makes it sound all the more enticing

I've racked up 18 emails to Jon since my initial contact on the 14th October. Calming down over the last couple of months as the last 3 were sent 13/11/08, 17/12/08, 05/01/09. Is that too much? I worry about my luthier filing a harrassment order against me

I'm no Ricky enthusiast (so don't know how it's done traditionally), but i'd have thought that if you're going to bind the headstock that you'll have to do the neck/fretboard too. Otherwise it'll look weird where the binding ends at the headstock and the neck starts. No?

From a personal perspective I'm not at all keen on basses which have too many controls on them. I suppose that having quite a few controls is unavoidable which you've got magnetic, piezo, and midi pickups in a single bass. My vote would go for trying to consolidate or 'hide' as many of them as possible. I'm sure it'll still be a cracking bass, i'll just have to ignore the abundance of knobs

I can't believe that this made it to the 2nd page of listings. That would never have happened with the original Doodle thread Any update from the man? I need you to put updates on here to stop me from pestering Jon about my own bass. I'm trying not to send him another email for a further month to let some progress be made. The wait is very difficult at the moment.

Has this bass surfaced yet? Can't wait to see some photos of the finished product, some sound clips would be great too.

Ooh, another luthier in the making. Excellent!

I'm 28 and ditched playing originals (Metal!). Having seen how many beer tokens I can earn from playing pop/rock covers and tribute I'm now ready to settle down and take it easy

My next bass is going to be a custom because I fancied getting something very different to what you can get in any store. There were a few things I liked the idea of in different basses which I haven't seen combined in a single off-the-shelf bass, so I decided to get that bass made as a custom. I chose Shuker through recommendation (thanks Dood!). A year before I ordered the custom bass I got him to do quite a bit of customisation on an old bass I had. The work that came back from that was top notch and price was unbelievable value. Having spoken to Jon he seemed a really nice chap too. All this lead to me putting in an order for my custom bass last year. I guess I could have shopped around with plenty of top quality luthiers in the UK, but I chose to go with the one I knew.

It could be that all the sound is going out at knee level? Try either tilting the amp towards you, or putting it on its side so it's a vertical array of speakers. Try also putting the combo into the corner of the room facing inwards.

Knowing that you played in a well established covers band for quite a while that sounds very tongue-in-cheek It's always nice to get at least your costs paid at a gig. Was this just a 'dep' gig to help someone out, or is this something which will become regular? I think you're in far too many bands already, Gamble!
This is why bassists grow beer guts. I serves a specific purpose, if you play bass and don't have a beer gut, you don't have the dedication.
You beat me to it! +1

I like tweeters for adding 'sparkle' to my bass sound (I like a reasonably hi-fi sound). My Hartke 2x12" has the tweeter set to 'pad'. I have not yet been able to practice or gig my BFM Omni10 (containing 4 tweeters!), but I suspect that I might have to EQ-out a little bit of treble to stop taking people's faces off
