1. Warwick Thumb BO4 crafted in Germany, and very well at that. I didn't include my Shuker as it's not finished yet.
2. I'm going on Sunday. Warwick are exhibiting so I'll be a very happy chappy.
3. I would suspect the cable if the head is silent until it's plugged in. How is the hiss with no cable, and the valve drive + volume at full?
4. I put some hard-wearing castors on my Hartke PRO 2200 2x12", and although it has been a great addition to help me get it around, in hind-sight I think I would have preferred to use a trolley or make up a 'skateboard' for it. The fixed castors have a habit of catching the car and other equipment during load-in.
5. I asked Jon for an update on my bass this week and he said that he's finishing off 4 JJ Burnell sig basses at the moment and he will resume work on my bass shortly. Sounds like he's absolutely swamped!
6. Glad to hear it went well. I don't think anyone warned you that gigging is also insanely addictive! You'll have the bug now so be prepared to spend the rest of your life in the pursuit of making live music. Congrats!
7. That is a lovely clean looking Jazz which just screams workhorse (especially in passive). A hand-built Shuker without the excrutiating wait - you're a very lucky man indeed! Congrats.
8. That is gorgeous, I don't think there is a single square inch of that bass which couldn't capture your gaze for hours on end. I don't think I've seen so much detail in woods and quality of finish.
9.
Here is Dood trying to get into the shower:
This is where I'm glad my work firewall blocks YouTube!!!
10. Nice indeed, but I'm hankering after some live video with sound instead of a slideshow Any chance you could record a sneaky little video of you playing along to some Within The Void stuff on your new Baby Doodle?
11. When I went to uni I bought a cheap 1x10" 15 Watt bass combo that I could carry around in one hand. It was great to carry it around campus to have jams at parties and meet people. With all the social activities you get involved in at uni you don't want to be sat in your room practicing with headphones! If you really want to keep your playing private then I recommend the Tascam Bass Trainer as an indispensible tool. But seriously, do yourself a favour and buy a little combo and you'll be the life of the party!
12. That is gorgeous. Excellent call on the shape!
13. Wow! That top has a crazy amount of detail, what a great finish. Looks like a proper no nonsense workhorse bass.
14.
NO pics till she's finished - sorry folks.
I'm sure that's illegal in the build diary section tease.
15.
Monster cables have slightly enlarged jacks (Oo-er missus!) but also have the jack bending/loosening reputation
+1. I use a couple of Monster cables and thought they've been a lovely snug fit in my Warwick Thumb BO for years, I find that other leads now feel quite wobbley and insecure in the socket. Love my leads, but a bit miffed that they've had this effect on my bass.
16. Excellent build and a great looking result. Good job.
17.
Generally like them all besides the SZ sig and the Cort.
Same here.
18. I am so getting one of these as my next amp. A couple of years down the line though.
19. Wow! I love all those percussive sounds you make in that clip. Very interesting. Have you got any more of your playing available online?
20. Can't wait to see the finished article. Good luck getting to sleep for the next few weeks
21. That is gorgeous. Great work!
22.
what made you change to your current one?
I've always wanted to own a Warwick. The Thumb bass shape has always caught my attention and there always seemed to be a Warwick/Thumb behind my favourite bass recordings. The bass compliments me perfectly and naturally has the sound i'm after without having to do any tweaking. The feel of quality and sturdiness is also great.
If you're happy with your current one, what model is it and will you keep it?
Warwick Thumb bolt-on 4 string. I'm more than happy with it and will take it to my grave.
What would be your main reason to change, if any?
GAS! I think there's a huge variety of options available to bass players and we're always thinking "what if..." e.g. what if it had 5/6/7 strings, what if the pickups were different, what if it had a 35" scale, what if it had fanned frets, what if it had lightwave pickups etc etc. I've currently got a custom Shuker being built to quash come of those GAS pangs and provide me with a truely unique bass. It certainly won't replace my Warwick as it will be a very different beast.
23. Got an update from Jon last night. The fretboard is on the neck after a couple of trial runs. The bass should be entirely assembled in the next couple of weeks and ready for sanding and spraying. I've been promised photos this weekend
24.
I recall seeing band some years ago (Vacant Stare if I recall... but it may not of been them!) and the bassist had what appeared to be a home made strap from a a parachute harness, which looked pretty cool as he clicked the locks into lace in the centre of his chest.
I remember the bassist from Taproot having something resembling what you describe. Looked like it could have almost been a full five-point harness around his body with the bass clipped onto the front. Looked like it would be very comfy. I'm planning on trying out the Dare strap when I get my new Shuker 6.
25. If I didn't already have a custom 6 being built at the moment I'd tear your arm off for this one (and it's cheaper than my custom too ). Good luck on the sale.
