2. Selling my 51P...no particular reason other than i have too many possessions at the mo and could do with clearing some out.... It's, from what i recall, a 2008 and in very good condition...the only marks are small chips shown in the headstock photo and some marks on the matt scratch plate. It's been modded somewhat; replaced the useless 2 saddle bridge with one from an Am Dlx Fender so string through is retained and it actually intonates accurately...will include original bridge. Other mod is the addition of a Duncan SCPB1 pick up...will include the original in the sale...it will be sent in a gigbag within a well packed cardboard box. It's currently strung with brand new TI Flats. asking £375 inc postage via insured courier, payment strictly by Bank Transfer only. trade for MIM Classic 50's P bass
 3.
That bass is a racist.
It also appears to be knobless...how very, very apt.
 4. Control plate looks awful shiny too....would have thought it would have been at least as tarnished as the tuners.
 5.
Jesus
where?!
 6. I have a 2009 Epi Les Paul Special, the underwhelming, all black version. It's a pretty decent bass for the price and i find the stock pick ups are more than adequate and have a pretty high output. Only thing that pissed me off about the bass is that the bridge was on a wee bit squint when i received it, but that was an easy fix. Was thinking of making some sort of pickguard to break up the black.
 7.
I bought this bass from Russ, and was so excited when I got it. It looked brilliant (I had owned a Broadkaster earlier and was unbelievably disappointed with the tone it didnt have, so assumed this must be a shed load better), and when I got it home it played a dream. It was superbly made, and I couldnt wait to try it at band practice. Oh dear, what a massive let down. After all the hype I had read about TV Jones pickups and the "thunderous" tone this bass was supposed to have, it was awful. The only way I could get any life at all into the tone was to hammer the strings with a pick, which isnt how I play. I nearly cried. It lived in its case under the bed for a while, and every so often I would take it out, admire it, play it, go through the whole huge disappointment thing then put it away again. I sold it in the end to a chap who loves it (I can only guess he doesnt play in a band like mine), and thats a happy ending, but what do Gretsch think making instruments as beautiful as this (and my Broadkaster was super cool as well) that sound like cardboard cut-outs? Its really beyond me. I know exactly what Russ means, and totally agree with him. Bob
I presume this is the one i originally owned? you'll know if it was cos i put a thumb rest on it and it should still have the holes, if so i agree with most of what your saying...great looking bass but a f***er to play, partly because of the short scale but i was also underwhelmed by the TV Jones pups and like you, really had to hammer the strings to get a decent sound.
 8. Cool, cool, cool...but then again i have no street cred whatsoever and my eyesight is poor.
 9. Seriously underrated : Zack Hickman, Dee Dee and Simmo. Overrated: Jah Wobble...Public Image intro was good though.
 10. I felt very sad when Joe Strummer died, Johnny Cash' death also affected me a bit but was tempered by the thought that he really missed June and maybe he would rather not be around without her. Others who's death pissed me off are Townes Van Zandt, John Lennon, Malcolm Owen of the Ruts ( I believe that he would have become a very talented and respected songwriter had he not got involved with smack). I will probably cry like a baby when Levon Helm goes.
 11.
...was'nt he in Hamburger Hill or Full Metal Jacket? sed at the time. ......
Was Platoon and it was Corey Glover the lead singer.
 12.
Does this mean they're giving up music? P
Did they ever start?
 13.
PS, don't think its anything to do with pickups as they are UltraJazzes which are stacked Jazz-shaped humbuckers.

Just reinforcing the comment above. My jazz hums a bit if either pickup volume is lower than the other but silent when both at the same level. But any extra screening may help.
See Clarkys earlier comment...the pups are not standard Jazz pups, they're stacked.
 14.
i wonder if he actually sells these at all?
With the prices he's asking? he's gotta be so wrecked on some sort of crack type substance that i doubt he cares.
 15.
my godness, the shipping's a bit much, No?
Not really if the bass is insured for the price asked....can you imagine sending that through a courier without it being insured Nervewracking to say the least.
 16.
I love the way the thread has been highjacked so we get a little bit of bass strings then some teen horror serial info at random!
It's actually a teen 'spy type' comedy effort, but yes it is rather disconcerting that this thread has been taken over by Chuck fanboys
 17.
Hi there, I think it about a 92-93 with an American serial number although it starts mn which I think inicates its Mexican.....unless you know diferent? Kind regards
The above answer to a question leads me to believe the seller may partake in crack cocaine?
 18. Christmas Must be Tonight by the Band is about the only one i can stomach...mind you jona Lewies' Stop the Cavalry is good though not really a real Christmas song.
 19. Last time i saw The Damned was at the Glasgow Apollo when they toured The Black Album, they had began to dispappear up their areholes by that time but it was a sh*t hot gig with loads of dry ice as i recall. Think it may have been some band with Keith Levine in it that supported...or was it Lydons brother' band?, know that they had some sort of PIL connection or other.
 20.
Its like a luthier went on a bad acid trip and woke up three weeks later with this lying next to him
+1 I can just see the look of horror on his face
 21. Been watching the Live at vicar street DVD and really impressed by Zack Hickmans bass playing and his. i assume, Fender 75 jazz...he gets an amazing sound from his fingers and even manages to make the usually bland looking..to my eyes anyway, natural finish 75's look sexy...he also sports a pretty cool looking handlebar tash and a rather nifty suit too I really don't get the Josh Ritter knockers, oooer missus! all that crap about him just being a sterile pastiche of the likes of springsteen and dylan, not saying he's all that original but he's certainly no karaoke job. really tight and grooving band too. the only thing that really grates about him with me is his Ireland fetish, he seems to be another of those 'plastic paddy', no offence meant to real Irish, type yanks all romanced up about the 'emerald isle'. On reflection, i think the tash is more a sort of Wyatt Earp type affair, rather than a handlebar job.
 22. Not usually a fan of quilted maple but that's one pretty alluring bass there. It speaks to me...and so does my bank acccount, or rather it's moaning with dread.
 23.
So what you are saying is as well as having a sh*t camera I'm also a sh*t photographer?
You're a very perceptive young man Wayne Only joking mate....an eye can be developed, scuse the pun, took me ages to find a 'style' so to speak...i took, and still take, some pretty average snaps now and when i began...even now most of my shots are depressing as f*** to the average punter
 24.
This thread explains why all my pics look crap, I have a standard camera I'm guesing you need proper lenses and stuff.
Not entirely true...some of my own favourites were taken with a FujiE900 point and shoot type camera....not saying equipment doesn't help, but a great deal is in the eye, bit pretentious maybe, but true all the same.
 25. I like a bit of photography but can't say i'm really keen on taking arty shots of instruments...these 2 are about the only ones that aren't straight gear shots More of my crap can be found hereFlickr
