I think it's down to return policy. If you find the bass is damaged out the box then G4M can chin the courier service or hit the factory for a credit note. They lose that option if Warehouse staff start taking stuff out "protective packing" and putting it in other "protective packing" , factories/couriers can counter that damage was done in the warehouse. Say you bought a camera and a camera case from Argos , they'll hand you 2 boxes. Sounds daft but that's how these places operate.

Red Sub fanned fret is a decent bass; trouble is roasted maple is quite brittle and G4M use really crap packing material. Look at the state this, my pal's acoustic bass was in that .

Aria use Samick in Indonesia. The Detroit bass is a variation on Aria's original RSB design. Hell it's just 2 years since they launched the range at NAMM.

Was: From the ashes of disaster...now various projects

I was playing my headless 51 slab this morning, body is torrefied obeche so weighs next to nothing π Headless + the robust Overlord countered any potential neck dive. Wasn't too keen on the grub screw locking nut, swapped it for a ball end type. Of course now I'm limited to double ball end strings but tuning is stable π Will happily use Overlord again should I build another headless. Wee tip if using these bridges. You'll sometimes hear folk complain the knurled tuning knobs are hard to turn. 9 from 10 those folk are using their fingers , unaware the knob has a 4mm hex socket at the end π Reckon the Guyker will also do the trick , I like their tuners. Can't tell from that photo if they have thrust bearings like this one. If not get some, they make a huge difference π -
I found 2.5mm ties lay flat on the fingerboard ,never got any dings either. They're thin , about 1.5mm, so conform to the shape they're wrapped around; nor do you need to hitch them super tight . Added bonus is the low profile means you don't have to raise the action on your fretless by much. Course it goes without saying, just because these wee ties worked as temporary frets for me it's not a given they'll work for @three π

Try using some cable ties. 2.5mm is the smallest I'm aware of , 91p gets you 100 of them at Screwfix. https://www.screwfix.com/p/cable-ties-black-100-x-2-5mm-100-pack/65467

Another pleasant transaction with Frank. Artec mudbucker. Done and dusted by 2nd message π He's a great fella to do business with.

No , you're not wrong. My Peavey Sarzo left home this morning for a new life in the Isle of Man. Preamp died years back so the 3 band 5 knob Glock was fitted, that's the one with push/pull vol for passive tone π

Congratulations @uk_lefty Lovely bass , all the more lovely for being left handed π

For no good reason, other than they cost me Β£20, I bought a set of Rotos Drop Zone + Bloody hell, farmers use thinner wire for fences π Tuning the F# was a nightmare. I imagine being heard would be another nightmare, doubt anything I had in the house was up to it. Thankfully this particular "I wonder" folly of mine was cheap. @toddwright138 If you fancy trying the Rotos, send me a pm π

Moving back to "normal" strings after filing nut slots
kodiakblair replied to Paolo85's topic in Bass Guitars
Not ironic, it's a tried and tested method for filling nut slots. -
No argument from me . Doubt that would be of much help. You're looking for a brighter tone , I generally use a 0.1uf cap/ roll the tone pot back/ tapes or flats and have been known to employ a foam mute. We're looking for different things from a bass π Take on board @Bassfinger's post and re-read the Herrick spec. Both the alnico and neo singles use 42AWG and are wound to 7.8k ohm. The only difference is in the pickup height, the Neo is 4 mm taller. I wouldn't be surprised if the alnico and neo were the exact same item only the neo version has 2 bar magnets either side of the poles; in a similar manner as the Entwistle PBXN. There's no "added treble" it's just the increase in output makes you more aware of the existing highs. This lad explains it quite well.

Became the owner of a Danelectro this week and it's all thanks to Nick. Seller had it listed as a collection only sale. Nick not only collected it , he did the buying/packing and posting too. An absolute gem of a man , one of Basschat's finest.

Continuing my trend of simple basic instruments I'd been hankering for a Danelectro. Owned then sold a Wild Thing model a few years back . No regrets over that; it was a short scale and I don't enjoy playing those π Watching Dano prices increase , I decided to build one instead π Parts bought , template made, body blank etc . Had the choice of 2 necks, guitar neck re-purposed for 15 frets or a 32" scale from Retrovibe. Then apathy kicked in hard π§ Few months ago a lass near the Welsh border listed her Dano on a Facebook page, collection only meant 700 mile round trip π’π’π’ Re-listed the other week there for the attractive price of Β£235 , I gave serious thought to the drive π Common sense told me ask for help on Basschat. @alyctes was the first to reply then @Old Horse Murphy a few hours later ; fantastic result. Turned out Nick passes the lass's place on way to rehearsal. He did much more than just pass her place, he handled the entire purchase for me , what a guy π Nick had it packed up and delivered to me by Thursday. Sadly I was up and about at 3am so was deadbeat by the evening , all I had left in the tank was a quick thank you note before bed. Different story by Friday π Spent a good few hours last night playing it and I'm over the moon . Nick had warned me it was strung with Fender flatwound cables and the action was a mile high. Bought a set of Rotosound 30-90 but tuned the flats DGCF and the action dropped to easy playing level π Feast your eyes on this sparkling lovely.
