1.
I prefer 2 have 2 cabs as it means if one cab goes I can keep going.
Zooming way off topic, but has this ever happened to you?
 2. Presumably you have to balance Alaska on your right shoulder?
 3. Bloody hell! Beffnull Gween? That area really is turning into Hipster Central ...
 4. This is mine: Definitely nowhere near as pristine as the one we're all looking at, but then it cost me WAY less than £17,000! And yes, I gig it.
 5.
Quite simply, the best P-bass sound I can remember achieving. But not with just any P - it has to be this particular one.
Then I took it to a full-volume rehearsal yesterday. Still sounded good, mostly, but it farted out WAY too easily. I swopped it for my OTB500 and the difference was obvious ... headroom matters! I'll be using the Trace at all low/lowish-volume rehearsals, but I'd need its big brother if I wanted to gig with it.
 6.
My take on it was starting at the bottom and working up, or a scale of venue quality. Two nations separated by a common language!
OK, just so long as a pub band vertical doesn't end up as a pub band horizontal by the end of a heavy night ...
 7. What is a "pub band vertical"?
 8. Didn't pay much attention to this thread 10 days ago, but I picked up an old Trace AH150-7 yesterday. When I got it home I plugged it through a Compact (quite nice), then a Compact+Midget stack (very nice), and finally a 69er (even nicer). Then I tried playing several different basses through that rig, and when I hit my modified '84 Precision I got the sweet spot. I've modified it quite extensively since that photo was taken! Quite simply, the best P-bass sound I can remember achieving. But not with just any P - it has to be this particular one.

 11. Listening to BBC Radio last night when the posh lady reporter started talking about the huge storms that had hit Wales. "And now we're going to hear from Dai, who was trapped at home throughout the storm. I'm sure that she will have an interesting story." Followed, of course, by a man's voice ...
 12. Do they play together in perfect harmony?
 13. So putting big arrows on the scratchplate in indelible felt-tip pen is just me then?
 14.
Don't use a Fishman as they're single channel (to my knowledge) ...
I don't follow ... why would you have a multi-channel pre-amp?
 15. Mmmmmmmmm ... intonation.
 16. I don't watch daytime TV. I suspect that my firm would sack me ...
 17.
Family will nearly always 'gang up' on an outsider.
Even worse is when each of them decides to gang up with someone else against another family member ...
 18. How do you power it? You have three options (battery, DC, phantom) ... do you get the same problem regardless of power source?
 19. This ^ That's a good call. If you like your current rig and all you're looking for is more volume, then get yourself a Fishman Platinum Pro or similar. Run an XLR to the PA for both signal and phantom power, and run a 1/4" jack from either the main output or from the parallel (uneffected) output, depending on whether you need different EQ for each of your amp and the PA. That will give you (in effect) unlimited headroom, PLUS it will project the sound of your bass to the back of the room far more effectively than simply buying a bigger amp.
 20.
Yes, or steadying his wizard's hat...
Nah! You want The Hobbit thread, mate. Go daaaaahn to that Off Topic and it's just there on yer left.
 21.
Not really been a problem with me, Although in a pub covers with no keys now, my real love would be to (retry) be in a prog band, and a prog band without keys isn't really working. I would say a keyboard player with a heavy left hand probably isn't that good, as the left hand should be doing something far different to what the bass is doing, and much more like the right hand is doing.
In a prog band, his left hand should be operating another synthesizer, or maybe pushing his cape out of the way ...
 22. Incidentally, every time I think of Repertoire Musts I get a mental image of a bunch in black suits with silly names ...
 23. Interesting to see that nobody else seems to do our closing numbers. We always finish with:

Let's Dance
Whatever You Want
Spirit In The Sky
Get It On ... segue into ... Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)
Of those five, the absolute banker (every time, every venue, every audience) is Spirit In The Sky, followed reasonably closely by Get It On.
 24. +1 to that. The output from the Baby Bass is not particularly powerful, but run it through any preamp pedal (I've used Sansamp BDDI, Hartke VXL, MXR M81) or active DI box (I've used Fishman Platinum Pro, Radial Stage Bug) and you'll be fine. Just because it looks like an EUB doesn't mean you can't use normal electric bass pedals with it. ps: I've just noticed that, in the photo of me playing with KK at Proud Camden (above), I'm running through the Sansamp, and that's going straight to FOH with no backline at all. Unexpected extra bonus was that the band following us were a touring outfit of Australians travelling light - their bass player (Fender Jazz) was expecting to borrow someone else's backline and was a bit put out to find none there. So he borrowed my Sansamp and went through that instead. Happy as Larry, he was.
