1. What sort of construction is this block of flats? If you're talking about a modern-ish place built of reinforced concrete, then the first thing to do is to establish whether or not there is actually a problem ... can your DB be heard through the walls/floor/ceiling? In similar vein, who are your neighbours going to be? If you'll be surrounded by rap fans with oversized stereo systems, it may be you doing the complaining ...
2. I'm not really one for jazz but I LOVE your band name.
3.
Going by selling rate here of some of the 1960's basses, this [s]is[/s] was worth about £1200 - 1400. He's trying to add some mojo and get a vast increase in the profit.... imho that is, of course.
Not sure about those prices! If this was in good nick and all-original, it would sell for around £5000. Here's mine: If this was a refin but otherwise all-original, it would still go for at least £3000.
4.
Am I missing something here? I can see no mention of this having been deliberately reliced. It could just be a bass that's had 50 years of use and wear. Remember that when bought is '65 it was just a standard new Fender P bass, nothing special about it, and definitely not vintage.
Deliberately relic'd? Dunno. But I've owned a lot of 50-year-old basses (I have seven just now) and I've never seen a wear pattern remotely like that!
5.
Hard to take that seriously when you stock Sadowsky and your competitor stocks Lull.......
Not called for, mate, and pretty unfair.
6. I've forwarded that link to Andy Gibson ... he'll wet himself laughing at that one.
7. Does the love affair go back to the really early days?
8.
I think its his R*********er on that track. IIRC they filmed the recording session and used it as a promo for Lady Madonna.
That's never the Rick. Sounds exactly like a badly set - up Hofner. So there's a video loosely associated with that track, maybe, perhaps, I still wouldn't read too much into it. Especially since the video shows all The Beatles doing different things at different times, including both John and Paul playing piano.
9.
....and here we all are decades later, admiring what he did. Just goes to show that it's not so much the tone.. but what you do with it... that matters.
Yup, my point.
... and as you may be able to confirm Jack, at that time, a new Hofner was about £40 and did need a set-up.
Haven't got a price for a 500/1, but the Senator cost 31 gns (= guineas for our younger readers = £1.05) and the President cost 48 gns so the Violin would probably have been somewhere between those two: But I've owned a number of 500/1s, ancient and modern, and I've never had one that sounded as Godawful as on this track.
10. Didn't you get a postcard? I thought we'd all had one ...
11. We all spend so much time, money and energy in trying to achieve "great bass tone" and one of the all-time greats gets a sound like a £40 starter bass from Woolworths in desperate need of a set - up.
12. Up next, someone playing bottleneck violin ...
13. I think you've probably summed up the difference between Basschat and Facebook quite nicely with this story.
14.
Our Trombonist is in Northampton...... £45 eh?
If you're in Cardiff, and your trombonist is in Northampton, rehearsals must be challenging!
15. And now I know there's a place called Earl Shilton. That is SO much cooler than Acton. Just saying ...
16. I have no idea how to play that file. When I click on it, my tablet asks if I have an App I want to use ...
17. You could always trade in one of these bad boys for one of the good boys, I suppose.
18. Or, indeed, of someone else's performances.
19. ... were very common back in the day. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1965-Fender-Precision-Bass-Ultra-Rare-Lake-Placid-Blue-Hard-Case-Poss-p-x-Jazz-/181734159313?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a503333d1
20.
$100.00 bucks a show? That's my pay and I'm in a local bar band. lol Blue
You are clearly insufficiently spiritual.
21. Reduced to £2250.
22. And as if by magic, this suddenly arrived in my in-box: Hello! I'm sorry you're getting the mail from me at this Point in time,my family and I came down here to Istanbul, Turkey for a short vacation unfortunately we were mugged at the park of the hotel we stayed, all cash credit cards and cell were stolen off but luckily for us we still have our passports with us. I have been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and our flight leaves pretty soon from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills. Please be so kind to reply back so I can tell you what to do and how to get some cash to us. I'm freaked out at the moment Now this is from the Outbox of a guy I used to play 5-a-side with, never a particular friend of mine, haven't seen him in at least five years. Unfortunately, his use of English (he's a native Londoner) is - if anything - even worse that this, but bears no resemblance to this sort of speech ("Please be so kind ..." etc.).
23. But this is SO much more entertaining than:

Would you like to join my band?
Yes.
OK then, see you at next rehearsal.
