1. I'm confused. Do you mean cab, or do you mean combo? Hard to see how anyone can recommend a cab if they don't know what amp you are using.
2. Jolly ergonomic, what?
3. You can't play 30+ year old songs through a modern PA though. It'll sound really scratchy ...
4. That is a GREAT photo.
5. Did Carol Kaye use one of these when she played on all The Beatles' greatest hits?
6. Wow! And people say that old-fashioned courtesy is dead. Mind you, they also say that all Canadians are really nice people, so what do they know? Just what Basschat needed just now, a gold-plated Troll on the run from the Mounties.
7. We once played to an empty pub. I mean empty. Even the bar staff had gone outside for smoke. No fun at the time, but we've spent years telling people about it ...

9.
It frustrates me when people advertise guitars for sale on internet for something they are not.
Well in truth, on the Internet it's usually Squire anyway ...
10.
How about this ad, then: http://www.joinmyban...er-t924396.html
I love any musician who looks for a base player. As a demo of his knowledge, commitment and [s]literassy[/s] [s]litarras[/s] [s]lisitta[/s] spelling, it tells you everything you need to know.
11. Squier by Alembic ...
12. Either that, or spot-welded.
13.
Check out Powersoft amps. I used to use one and its relatively lightweight with plenty of power on tap. :-)
+1 Superb pieces of equipment.
14. Not if your technique is good enough.
15. Interestingly, this is one of the first two ever made, the other being made for John Giblin. Giblin's bass was being sold through The Gallery almost exactly five years ago. The vendor of this one is quite right - the list price is US$24,000. Selling this at £3500 is actually (ridiculous as it sounds) an absolute bargain.
16. And why do they never state the weight? They can hardly argue that stainless steel is an organic material and that weight will vary with the growth rings ...
17. If only they were Canada basses from Hammersmith ...
18. No one has yet mentioned that he never specified how many strings your bass has to have.
19. Hmmmm ... apart from offering you a real opportunity to scrap your existing technique and learn to play a cylindrical bass, what does it actually do that a normal bass can't do?
20. https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-musicians-wanted/let-s-make-a-cool-band-and-play-gigs/1195257016 I'd love to know what sort of response he got ...
21.
Odd pickups - they do look familiar but I can't place them.
That's OK Jon, the builder clearly couldn't place them either.
22.
Does anyone remember Dave Swift's talk at the Addlestone bass bash? He was talking about playing with Jools Holland, and he put some embellishments in. He said Jools would raise his eyebrows and say something on the lines of it being over the top, so he didn't do it again.
What he actually said was that Jools would say "that was all a bit Weather Report wasn't it?" which is a lovely phrase.
23.
I see this written quite a lot on Basschat (not really aimed at you Tim). Why are Keyboard players in covers bands playing Bass lines?
Because keyboard players can easily play two parts at once, so when they play alone it makes sense for the left hand to be providing the bass part. (I used to play a lot of piano myself, and this is of course exactly what I did.) The tricky part is convincing them that things are different in a band situation, and that they should stop doing this. Add to that the fact (fact? claim? opinion?) that many keyboard players are frighteningly arrogant and disinclined to listen to other musicians, and you can see why so many musicians dislike playing with keyboard warriors.
24. Leave it. You're insured to replace a £2000 bass. In the event of a disaster, you'd have £2000 available to replace it.
