Yes his brilliant playing with Joni is often overlooked because of Jaco. Check out Fury sings the blues off Hejira.

Paul Jackson's one of my favs. Very cool.

Those three I listed are brilliant and all worth having and cherishing.

It was more the unhinged aspect of it to be honest. I'm a very open listener. Anyway, back to Olli...😀

His early solo albums are astonishingly good. Criminally overlooked. Songs for a tailor Harmony Row Out of the storm

The vocals lost me at around 2:35 I'm afraid but the groove is cool.

...I've ever heard. Obviously for this style of music but the recording is incredible to my ears. Pekka Pohjola (who I confess to having never heard of before) on Bass. Brilliant playing throughout the whole album. I thought it was a Pbass but from what I can gather he almost always played a Jazz...Hope you all enjoy as much as I have.

My first proper bass was a Thunder 1 passive bought for IIRC £80 in 1985 from Music Ground? in Leeds or Sheffield I think. I thought it was great but the Thunder 3s were a big step up from memory...

Brilliant thank you. Are the Tele shape ones bad dive/weight wise or is it that the the double cutaway is just a bit better? -

Hi Warwickhunt, Well, I'm pretty much set on one as they seem to have the perfect (for me) mix of acoustic and fretless sound compared to everything else I've heard. I want to try before buying just in case there's something that doesn't feel right. i.e. when I bought a Thunderbird unseen and couldn't believe how much they flip forward. I couldn't live with that. I believe the earlier ones are lighter than the early A4s which I heard were heavier and have neck dive. I'm also interested in the older ones as I don't need a midi output and the project this is for won't really need the lace sensor, even though I can see the benefits of a magnetic pickup for other things. I'd be interested to hear any observations you have though so please fire away. Many thanks -

UPS - Unbelievably Poor Service. Avoid this courier...
julesb replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
My experience with UPS was terrible as well. The bass eventually arrived but the tracking system seemed to be way out of time with what was actually happening. If I remember correctly the system updated itself with all the movements as it was delivered. The customer service was non existent. A friend of was mine a manager at a couriers and said the culture was that an item should be packed well enough do be dropped from head height! Also, even though they take your, money musical instruments are excluded from insurance most of the time... -

Hi, my rather brilliant Yamaha BB1100 showing some odd behaviour when switching between passive and active. It seem it does it loudest on the first try and then less. Almost like a build up of static something as it does it less or not at all after the first go. No other issues in either mode. Can't trust it live though as it's a very loud pop. Any ideas what would need replacing? Thanks in advance.

I started of with the compressore which helped a lot but it was the VT3 that's got a clean boost that really gives a lovely valve roundness. The other one is an experiment to add more valves in the chain with the option of more drive if it comes to it. I think it's sounding really good and I'm very happy with it. I got the vt3 off ebay for £20 described as not working. I sent it to Dave to test and it was just a case of the person not using the correct power supply... Dave didn''t charge me for checking it out. I bought the correct one and Hey presto! Can't recommend Dave and his pedals highly enough.
