RIP. So glad I got to see him perform.

That looks amazing!

The through neck pro is an extremely good instrument with top notch build quality. It sounds great and looks great. I still prefer my jazz. For me, it sits more comfortably and has has a string spacing I prefer. The tbird is a narrow string spacing. Fantastic bass though if you can get it to feel comfortable as there is nothing comparable.

I saw alt j at a festival just before they won 'that' prize. I thought they were total bollocks then and last night did nothing to make me think otherwise.
+1 to all of this Steve. My last covers band had a pretty good reputation across Sussex, but we never got more than £300 for a pub gig in the 8 years I played with them. The pub gigs often led to wedding and birthday party bookings though, where we could charge a much more lucrative fee. My view these days is that I'm just happy to play live and make music, so as long as I'm not out of pocket, I'm happy. I think Steve's absolutely right about gigging abroad; my experience there has always been positive - better venues, better facilities for the band, better money and much more appreciative audiences. To the OP - good luck with you new band!
Thank you very much!

Yeah, Newhaven's 4 hours to Dieppe. I suppose if it's a two gig trip it would ok but yes 4 hours on a ferry can't compete with the tunnel which is about a two hour drive from me, even though it's only 70 miles! Food for thought though. Thanks again.

Thanks Steve, that's really helpful. I've got a ferry port up the road so I'll certainly be suggesting that!

If I've misinterpreted anything I'll be the first to hold my hands up so if I have, consider my hands held high.
Even at £40 a head it would probably pay your petrol and avoid paying for rehearsal room fees, and it gets your name out there. Good luck with the band
Thank you
For what it's worth, £200-250 is the norm for pubs in Derbyshire too. Although some pay significantly less and still have regular acts. As a 5-piece the economics aren't great, but without doing them we wouldn't have got our festival and private party bookings. So, for us it's about looking at the bigger picture.
Thanks for your positive reply. I appreciate it.
7 piece band, no singers all original material In Sussex we get between 300 and 420 a gig in pubs In London we don't go for less than 450
Great to hear, tell me Where?

Thanks to all who contributed a positive response to what was an honest and genuine question.
with a six piece, you probably better off looking at the wedding/corporate market rather than the dog and duck, not much room to set up usually and the pay will be poor split 6 ways, even im my 3 piece it works out at about £12 an hour by the time you take into account all the driving and setting up, beer money really.
I think you're right. Thank you
Trouble IS 250ish is the going rate for most pubs if you can't afford to play for that that there's plenty of bands that will as sadly there is more bands then music venues
Thanks, I'm starting to get the picture with the pub thing. I always preferred venues with a stage anyway 😄
I think you will find that it is OTHER people's opinions on how good you are that carries the more weight most party bands have boy/girl singers, and it doesn't mean they are good. And yes, it's a buyers market so you get what they decide you get
Was this intentionally patronising? I'm just trying to get a bit of an overview from people on the sussex circuit.
We play predominantly in Sussex area - East/West Sussex/Surrey/Kent borders. You're probably looking at £250 - £300 for pubs, some pay up to £400, but that's typically for proven acts who draw a crowd. Clubs can be more, some up to £500, but then smaller ones may pay half that.
Thanks Graham.
If you are offering 3/4 part harmony with good musicians you should be playing venues that can afford at least $600.00. I personally don't advise play pubs for $250.00. Sounds like you have put a lot of work into the band. Set your pay accordingly. Blue
Thanks Blue.

I'd prefer clubs anyway and imo this is a high standard band. Boy girl lead vocals and three/four part harmony with good musicians. £250 is going to be difficult but might have to start with that to get everything oiled.
