Cool - not a disimilar setup to me so far (8vr pedals - boss / EHX / T16) into squelch pedals (3 leaf groove regulator or EHX W balls) or distortion / bit crusher. But the new Squaver looks great...any idea of cost? Yes you’re right about actual synths but I’m decided I’m not going that route so just going to have to work hard to get the best sounds I can from my electric....

Nice one - do you think it’s with hanging on for the new verisons then? Though presumably they will have a serious price tag attached to them? I did have a Red Witch - taken in a trade I think - but I moved it on quite quickly. As I recall it didn’t do anything that any other octave pedal with a bit of grit would do....if it had I would have kept it. The synthotron looks great but not easy to come by? Whats currently on you board for generating synth tones?

Low tension, bright string suggestions
dodge_bass replied to steviedee's topic in EUB and Double Bass
The Zyex lights are indeed light and low tension but still sound growly and great. They bow pretty well too. I think they’re great. -
I love the idea of the Sonic Smith stuff but it’s not cheap and the Squaver gets absolutely destroyed over on Talkbass....I’m not prepared to risk wasting that much money. The Red Witch Zeus (which I see you’re looking for) was, IMO, ok but nothing special but the synthotron looks interesting (have you got one?).

Cool. Thanks. I think I get what your saying - in essence if your send a per-eq signal to either desk via DI or amp then the master volume alters the headphones only. Post EQ the master affects both (which isn’t really ideal). Shame they just couldn’t have fitted a separate headphone volume knob really then it would be super flexible? Or am I wrong in this reading? I’d like to be able to use this as a DI (with the EQ etc) whilst also monitoring myself from the headphone output. But that can’t be effectively done if the headphone output also alters the volume of the output to the desk.

You’d be better off using a specialist for work on your instrument. though I’m sure Steve Martin is good as I understand it he’s not an actual luthier / trained (but I could well be wrong). Ralph Plumb is based in Hexham and is a dedicated double bass / cello builder and repairer and is excellent. PM me for details . He’s done various bits of work for me and other pro players around the NE so that should give you confidence! Ian

It’s about $30 I think to buy and well worth it !

I think the ability to mess with the EQ and also change octave’s is a fantastic tool for being able to pull out bass from the mix. Especially when it’s hidden in a dense mix with lots of other things going on. The stereo pan is also really useful when using backing tracks with bass pan to one side and I’ve also found that a lot of the older Motown and similar recordings have-bass panned to one side(!). The ability to effectively change key as well is great when working with singers who do things in different keys!

Transcribe is only about 30dollars and I use it pretty much every day for teaching and for transcription. It’s such a powerful tool and I’ve not personally found anything else that approaches the quality of it. Highly recommend getting hold of it and probably best to buy if you can as it supports small company and a great product.... it would be a shame if it went out of business! I use a Mac desktop and a Mac laptop so I’m not sure how is with other platforms in terms of compatibility.

Actually I meant to write free but my large bass playing thumbs once again got the better of me... Actually I’d be happy to pay a small fee to get it upgraded to V2 as it is a great sounding pedal just not quite useable as it currently stands. Maybe i’ll email him...!

I’ve got a T16 v1 and to be honest was pretty annoyed to find all the little issues that you outlined above. I’d love a version 2 but don’t really feel like paying out more cash....maybe he should offer a feee exchange?!

Darkglass B3K for a TC Spectra Comp + cash?

Thanks but really it needs to be a properly fitted aircraft-hold-resistant flight case a la Hiscox or very similar. It’s too delicate and not easy to repair / replace if damage did occur en route.

No joy with Mono - their uke cases don’t fit and they wouldn’t tell me if they were intending to release a uke bass one.

Great shout but I don't think so. I've emailed them about bass uke cases and if not then I'll ask them about these uke cases....usually the headstock / tuners are too big for them to fit into uke cases....we'll see! Thanks for your input

Hi all, I am off on tour with my Ukelele bass later on this year and it Is going to involve at least four separate flights. I need to get a flight case built for it as there seem to be non-available on the market that fulfil this purpose. Does anybody have any recommendations of makers / companies That would able be able to do this without costing an arm and a leg? In reality I’m thinking about something similar to a Hiscox case but for ukelele bass. Anyone got any thoughts?
