1. The Vanderkley cab's have a more prominant low mid than Markbass cabs (I'm talking 4x10/2x10) so you should hear yourself better on stage.
2. My Streamliner 900's a keeper, when I inevitably get my head turned by something else it will drop down the order and occupy the reserve position. I think my SVT CL will go before it does.
3. The Tung-Sol 12AX7/ECC803 is my fave for V1 position at the moment, however if you're thinking about lowering the gain a bit, then look at a good quality ECC83/5751 instead, it tightens up the low end as well.
4. I got my first late eighties SB1 about two years ago and ever since I've been selling my basses and replacing them with various vintage G&L's. I love them! I'm on the lookout for a smooth headstock L1000 in black or natural if anyone can help me out.
5.
That's what one would hope, but in reality, it doesn't work like that. As BFM says, "it's like running your car to the red line all the time".
Not the same at all.
6. Big is beautiful.
7. I talked to one of the Guys on the Orange stand at the Great British Guitar show at the weekend and he told me that the OB1K will not be going into production in it's present form as it's not quite right and there looking very seriously at class A/B for it.
8. I'd go for the 2x12 as it won't take up any more room on stage, it will act as a better monitor and is less expensive to buy.
9. I can recommend the WT800 with the 410XLT as I gigged that set up for a few years. One of the few rigs I regret moving on.
10. I sometimes use the Streamliner through the SVT 8x10 and it's easy to forget I'm not using the CL but when I concentrate on the sound of the bass rather than the sound of the Band I do notice a small lack of quality in the tone. As a modern 'light weight' head the Streamliner seams to dedicate it's flavours towards warm vintage (can get aggressive) and betters it's rivals in this department.

Well, after a couple of months wait it finally arrived via Fedex. No messing about and straight into the rehearsal room. First impressions, looks very slick and well finished apart from the handles that look like they were an after thought, modern looking cab with retro handles? also the horn attenuator control knob stands proud from the recess plate which kind of ridicules the point. Right, minor niggles out of the way, where’s the Streamliner. I’m not going to go into great detail in describing the sound as everything I’ve read about how this cab sounds seems to be true up to now. After 45 mins of abusive finger style with my 80’s G&L SB1 just find myself wondering if thing is just too good? Apart from the general high quality of bass tones punching out at me it seems to lay bare all the worst aspects of my playing, passing notes and rakes I’d previously enjoyed slipping in here and there now demanded to be heard as proper notes in there own right and ended up being unmusical. A quick change of cabs and my MB 410 now sounds like it’s packed with finest quality Angora knitwear, yuk, how about the SVT 8x10, yes better, and my dodgy technique is now adequately masked, but it sounds no where near as refined, but I now no that I can sound better with the Big twin 2 and that I need to tighten up my playing so all to the good. Right in goes the SVT CL, yep, an improvement overall, but it doesn’t like it much when I dig in excessively as the 12” drivers distort in a very unmusical way, clanky is how I describe it but to be fair I wouldn’t normally play as hard, but saying that the 8x10 distorts in a much smoother fashion. Rehearsal: The best overall sound I’ve had in that room, very good quality mids with enough low end to remind me why I’m a Bass player, very tight and controlled in that department as well. My band mates echoed my conclusions. I think Alex needs a new slogan for Barefaced: If you don’t want to hear the truth stay away from Barefaced A couple of Gigs over the next weekend, so I’ll report back next week.
12. This is the one amp in a long line of amps that I regret selling, I wish I had the cash, as £499 is a steal. Am I right in thinking the B suffix suggests it was made in the USA?
13. TTE500 is a great amp with decent old school tones, I got rid of mine as I thought it lacked a bit of width at the bottom end. The Genz Benz Streamliner does the same job but much better, cheaper too.
14. You have a Shuttle, your tempted by a Tonehammer, why not the Streamliner?
15. Genz Benz Streamliner gets my vote.
16. You need to try and nail down the type of tone you're after before a short list is created, and maybe size and weight could be a consideration. Once we know the parameters we can advise better.
17. Genz Benz are very hard to beat at the moment, especially at the reduced price.
18. Stick with the 8x10 for as long as you can, the 4x10 will never sound as good.
19.
Around 300-500 roughly And as much as I like 1x15s I can never get on with them alone 410 and 115 though...oh yes
Then you need my Mesa Powerhouse 4x10 + 15 all in one box that's up in the for sale section.
20.
Ill be running the abm500 head If anyone can suggest a cab for around the same price id be More then happy to look into it =) cheers for the input guys so any suggestions? Ive looked into eden cabs which caught my eye and warwick which im 50 / 50 with
I had an USA Eden 410 xlt at the same time I had the 410 ABM and Eden wins hands down. I can't comment on the Warwick. How much are you looking to spend as I have a couple of Markbass 410's comming up for sale.
21. An early eighties G&L L1000 black or natural. Bob.
