1. [sub]I'm based at Barrow on Humber. I'm not really looking for trades but don't let that stop anybody asking.[/sub] [sub]Bob.[/sub]
2. This versatile cab has a monster sound, works just as it should and is in great condition with only a few minor scrapes and marks but nothing major. It's 1000 watts rms at 4 ohms. The best online price is at GAK at £1599. Go on, make it yours. £495
3. The subs are running a little low on power as you have it, the general rule is to double the rms wattage, the subs are 350w rms each, ran in parallel makes 700w rms at 4ohms which means the amp needs to deliver 1400w rms into them to give enough clean headroom, the CV-2800 delivers 900w rms per channel into 4 ohms. Oh and make sure the amps are wound fully up.
I have used trace gear for years and unless I have missed something(its like and idiots guide for me) the red knob to the left is labeled input gain,I suppose its what I have been conditioned to look for. With a flashing light or a thumbs up to tell you when its about right,go above that and the output signal distorts no matter how low my volume control is or whatever speaker cab is connected so I would have thought it is gaining the input stage. Also playing through 4x10s they sound better when being pushed a bit,if really low volumes they are a little thinner,or is that just me? I do understand about sensitivity etc but played through some new neo cab and even though the output seemed higher at lower output settings they came to life more when pushed.Sort of fuller.Thats my ears telling me I know its not really science.
Well put, this is an interesting thread but I think most Bass players don't fully understand the internal workings of an amplifier, but what they do understand is what a gain control and a master volume control does to the sound irrespective of the true technical function of the component.
5. At the moment I'm using two MB 4x10's with a MB SD800 and I agree with Ghost Bass about the boxey low mids. I've also had the un ported CL610 which sat in the mix well but had nothing much in the low end. However the MB 4x10's come alive when I put my SVT CL through them. One thing that that intrigues me is that I get more Bass players coming up to me after gigs and complimenting me on my sound when I use the MB rig than when I'm using the full SVT 8x10 rig, but the band's I play with allways prefer the Ampeg. Anyway, I think once you get too a certain quality of gear there shouldn't be too much 'slagging off' made, as it's just a matter of taste.
