  1. The Factory numbering system has The Hacienda as FAC-51 so that's where the 51 derives in terms of club artefacts. I would imagine that the basses are numbered HAC51 through HAC56 and this one for sale is HAC54.
  2. The skull laden fret wrap is going to bugger up the balance though...
  3. Yeah you'll meet loads of people on here who are recently back to bass-ics *groan* For me it was at least a 20 year lay-off until I picked up an instrument and got back into playing regularly. When I first started playing bass the Internet didn't even exist! Happily things are different now and Basschat is a great site (and I'm not even paid to say so)!
  4. With all of my active basses I've tended to home in on one particular combination of the tone shaping controls and it's essentially then a set-and-forget situation. The last bass into my collection is my passive Squier VM Precision and I don't miss active EQing at all, to some extent I actually prefer the simplicity of the single treble cut tone control because I've got another two tone-shaping devices further down the chain anyway (my Zoom effects unit and my Genz Benz combo). So in your case I'm wondering what an active bass might give you that say, an outboard pre-amp/effects unit can't (and right now I can't think of anything). Have you considered trying something like a SansAmp Bass Driver or similar?
  5. I still prefer the YouTube vids of Poliana Magalhaes and Marta Altesa
  6. Not sure if this helps or not but the video indicates you should email details to [email protected] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oWw34-2rrU
  7. Most of the local pub/club gigs that I've been to have had a full PA with mixing desk and sound engineer (probably varying between 16 channel minimum up to 32 channels) and bands usually mix/share backline and we're talking about venues that accommodate a few hundred people. As far as I can see providing your own PA and lights included in the fee is a sign of professionalism and should be welcomed, unless of course the venue has its own decent in-house system.
  8. I don't know the amp head but it'll have a Clip light that tells you if the combination of input signal level and amp gain are overdriving the input stage, so if it's lighting up often, rather than occasionally, then you know to turn the amp gain down.
  9. Hi Blue, *waves from across the big pond* and welcome to Basschat... ... start's humming 'What Made Milwaukee Famous'
  10. Just make sure that if you're tightening the truss rod it's best to slacken off the strings first, then retune and check the relief (I usually do 2 complete turns of the tuning ears so it's easy to get it back to the right tension).
  11. It's in Timperley... might have something to do with the 'bobbins' repair job... you know it is, it really is! I'll get me coat.
  12. I wouldn't trust that E...
  13. Very tidy job! Happy reborn bass day!
  14. Blimey, he's good! Interesting bass too (just the bridge pup?). Well, he's got a little of the Pino head bobbing going on...
  15. The bass has received two fret dressings by the same person and there's still an issue? I think you need to find a new luthier.
  16. Looking online for other makes using the 'Stage' model name I've found a series sold under the brand name Johnson - here http://www.sonic.net/~thelink/amps/amps_2.html Does it look anything like the Stage 50 Bass Amp? If so then that has a new list price of $130 so I guess secondhand and in good condition it might be worth about £40?
  17. I believe those Modern Player Jazz basses are made in China... nothing wrong with that seeing as the highly rated Squier Classic Vibes are...
  18. From what I've heard on YouTube (through headphones) the Modern Player Jazz seems a bit too 'polite' is the only way I can describe it, whereas that Precision is sure to have bags of character...
  19. Yeah I'm also of that group who don't quite get the love/hate thing with skinny/wider necks; my basses vary between 38mm, 41mm and 44mm at the nut (which admittedly is a 5er) and I'm happy with the necks on all of them.
  20. A few BCers have rated the Harley Benton 210T cabs quite highly, 250W 8ohm with tweeter level control for a little over £100 plus shipping from Thomann - another option to consider rather than go down the DIY route if it's a matter of economics rather than a fun-to-do project... http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bb210t.htm
  21. So obviously Squier... though functionally just as good
  22. I think I'll stick with my Squier P
  23. The castors and trolley handle are a clever idea - where did you get them from (as I might try the same trick with mine). To anyone looking for a great sounding rig I can wholeheartedly recommend the Genz Benz Contour. GLWTS!
  24. Urrgghhhh. Good luck with sourcing a new pickup. Let us know what you settle on and if it matches the broken one for tone, volume and noiselessness (is that even a word?).
  25. Do you like P basses in general and is it just the bass you've got where the sound isn't what you expected? Have you tried different strings on it yet and is it wearing flats or rounds? If you like the sound of a P (oooh errrrr) then maybe a pickup upgrade might work wonders or changing the tone cap. BTW what's wrong with the jazz neck? Too skinny?
