1. After a few weeks off its time to get back out there and do it all again - come and catch Think Lizzy belt out the Irish Rockers' finest tunes.
2.
I saw Matchbox 20 a few years ago & I believe they were using Bad Cat Black Cat plexi amp heads with plexiglass cabs...looked great from an audience point of view spot them at 1.20 in this vid: https://www.youtube....h?v=6uzQYmuxNwY
Didn't they have a plexi drum kit that tour as well? I remember speaking to their FoH engineer after the gig at Manchester who confirmed they were all dummy - the band were using a variety of off-stage mic'd small combos from Fender Twins to old Marshall 50w JCM 800 gear. Still looked ace!
3. I'm in an odd position as SWMBO and I don't live together but spend weekends together. Therefore, in her mind gigs are an intrusion into *OUR* time. Neither of us have children so that isn't a concern. That said, she doesn't mind the odd night out watching the band and quite enjoys the rewards that comes from the gigs e.g. a holiday, treats, meals out etc This is the complete opposite of an ex who effectively acted as as a 'tour manager' at gigs - sorting everything out from time to arrive, place to stash gear, helped load in/out to learning how to run the lighting desk! In both cases, I was a musician before the relationship began and so it was an accepted part of who I was/what I did!
4. Cheers skej21 - will drop him an email a few weeks before the anticipated completion date
5. I've had plenty of pre-order discussions with Mark - now we've agreed the spec I'll just leave him to it until he needs to know anything from me e.g. string gauge, preferred action etc. It will be ready when it's ready. Anticipating a late April/early May delivery
6. As Nickelback put it..."I want a new tour bus full of old guitars" Me? I'll have to manage with a battered 307 and a relic Limelight!
7. No divine epiphanies for me - long time guitarist (20+ years) who happened to be in band as a vocalist (they already had a full compliment of guitarists when I joined) and the bass player quit. "You play guitar" they said..."fancy filling in on bass?" Not looked back since!
8. Would recommend a trip out top Coney Island on the subway - it takes a while but it's a great place to visit. Look out at the sea and think "next stop is Ireland!" Skylight Diner is a great place to eat, as is the ESPN bar if you're a sports nut. Many congrats too
9.
... with an airbrushed pic of One Direction on it if the main criteria were met.
You can take it just a little too far! Whilst my guitars are all pristine, my basses are in a variety of worn states from 30 years of gigging mojo to the previous owner wearing a studded wriast band and dimpling the finish! My next bass will be a lightly worn Limelight 70's P-bass quite a simply because 1) I want that look 2) I can't afford the genuine article and 3) if ever I could afford it, I'd be terrified of putting a mark on it or even worse!
10. Good man! There's nothing like playing in front of an audience - and the sound of applause is one you'll never tire of. Welcome to the world of the gigging musician!
11. Fri 13th February - George & Dragon, Belper
12. An odd gremlin-infested Friday 13th gig! Sound check run fine, then a strange vocal feed back that was a bugger to track, and a few moments with my wireless cutting in/out! First set we didn't seem to get it together but that all changed in the second, although some one-stage monitoring issues mean one of guitarists going a bit "Jazz" at times - eek! A good sized room full of enthusiastic punters meant a lot of noise but not much room for my wireless walkabout so during Emerald and Suicide. All in all an acceptable if not sparkling night, we got paid a 25% bonus and we've been invited back - can't have been all that bad eh?
13. Very nice! That reminds me - I must get myself a 2nd 2x10 or a 1x15 once I get the ABM amp from my combo sleeved.
14. The start of another gig day is always a good start to the day - even if it's a school day!
15. Oh my! If I hadn't just ordered my Limelight I could have been sorely tempted by this...!
16. Hi Mohawk - good to see another guitarist pretending to be a bass player on here
17. Hi! I'm a bit further north but mostly gig around Nottingham/Derby/Stafford so I guess I'm an honorary East Midlander. Welcome aboard
18. My musical taste is very much mainstream classic/heavy rock and as far from Thin Lizzy as possible who I always considered 'soft' when I listened to Skid Row, AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden etc. in my yoof! So, in answer to your question...no!
19. More than happy to add feedback for Rod He purchased my 2010 Thunderbird from me and the transaction was as easy as could be - excellent communication between us, confirmation re times/meet up location etc.and a good chat over a soft drink re all things bass! Would happily deal with Rod again- especially to buy back my Thunderbird in the future! Many thanks Rod.
20. The Think Lizzy boys - Poet & Castle, Codnor. Sat 31st Jan 2015
21. Guess it's like it say on the tin really! If Thin Lizzy are your thing then come along and make yourself known.
22.
I use whichever of my basses is the most appropriate in terms of looks, sound and playability for the gig. The name on the headstock and the price are irrelevant.
^^^ Definitely this
23. Have wireless will travel! Even in pubs during some of the longer solos (Emerald, Suicide) I'm off and about - punters love it!
24. I have a Rockburn P as my perfectly serviceable and playable spare - it's well set up and sounds like my main (Tokai Hard Puncher) - it makes the sound myself and the rest of the band want it to make i.e. a P-bass. Job done. I'm a self-confessed guitar snob, but less fussy with my bass gear - can't work that one out myself either!
