I LOVE the way they look and like the sound when I hear some other people playing them but I can't get used to not having a bridge pickup whenever I play one.

    Are you looking at a brand new MIM? If yes, I'd recommend at least considering a second hand US Standard.

    I'd agree with a 1 in 3 hit rate on the American Standard Fenders - maybe even 1 in 4 or 5. When you do find a good one though, they're really, really great. For your budget you could wait and get a US Standard from someone on here. While pretty rare, they do occasionally come up and sell at your kind of budget. Plus if you go second hand and you got bored with whatever you bought and wanted to sell it, you'd more or less get your money back.

    So would you go for a Superlux E205 over a Shure SM57 for home recording?

    Find a good playing jazz bass, install a good pre-amp, a decent set of pick-ups and you're there really. So much of the sound is in people's fingers anyway.

    I currently record direct into my Scarlet 2i2 but I want to incorporate my cab too. Any of you folks got some strong recommendations when it comes to choosing a microphone?

    I'd have one if given to me But I've owned two myself and wouldn't bother again. They look awesome though - I wish I could get along with them.
