1. A whole other discussion but I acknowledge that other companys make Super Jazzes that could be a lot better and will almost certainly have a better hit rate... but for me, and I'm aware this will be ridiculous to a lot of people, I need the word Fender on the headsock of a Jazz Bass
2. I think Fender Jazz Basses are incredibly hit and miss though - I've played loads of post-2012 American Standards now and I'd say the hit rate is around 1 in 5 for finding a good one and maybe 1 in 15 for one I'd actually buy. Whenever i go to Absolute Music in Poole, I always grab their US Standards and am always amazed at how Fender can make the same model bass with such big differences in feel, weight and sound. I played a red/RW, OW/RW, black/RW and 3TSB/RW US Standard a couple of Sunday's back and I'd personally class all four as duds. The OW/RW, red/RW and black/RW all sounded a bit rubbish while the 3TSB/RW sounded great but weighed 11lb 4oz. Thankfully the gent who bought my 2013 US Standard kindly agreed to sell my old bass back to me.
3. I'll be amazed if he gets anywhere near this kind of money for that.
4. It is actually pretty bad that I keep buying the same bass.
5. Super fast payment, brilliant communication - a very smooth transaction. Thanks a lot Mark.
6. Yes, scottsbasslessons.com is a great resource - if you've not already seen it, this modes video is a particularly good lesson in my opinion. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com/scotts-backstage-bonuses-area/modes-revealed-mini-course
7. I could do with another sunburst Jazz...

Jazz

Got this one Today. And here it is with its relations...
9. Got this beauty today. My personal experience is that a B on a Fender V is generally pretty floppy but this one is refreshingly good. 10.
Not all of them are ugly, most are simply dull imo. Fbass are sexy. ACGs are daring. Alembics are beautiful (but not very ergonomic). Fenders/MM are classic. Dingwalls are futuristic. For me, Foderas are neither here nor there. The question about what is overpriced or not is debatable, but it simply cannot be justified in terms of higher costs - when you have so many top notch luthiers using the absolute best materials and components and building to perfection, who sit firmly in the 2000-4000£ bracket. Location is part of it, but to quote Flight of the Conchords 'what are your overheads??!' It has to be mystique (= marketing), which is fine. We all succumb to this one way or another. Look at how many people want to trade Foderas for other Foderas with opposite specs... Ah, but it has to be a Fodera (and please not one of those cheapo standards). Same with Alembics. C'mon guys. These 2-3 brands have prices that double or triple most other expensive basses. The question of overpricing is legitimate. It's a bit like when you have to go Custom Shop to have a matching headstock from Fender. Really? I've tried two Foderas and they were ok. My Sire M3 is fantastic. If I remember the price, I'm twice as happy. I've had (and still have) cheap and expensive. If Fodera is good for you, fine. You don't have to argue about best quality or high production cost. Personally, if I had a Fodera and it had just one knob not turning precisely, one high fret or slightly loose screw, a hint of hum or any other minor niggle, I would be bitching.
Ah Flight of the Conchords - I loved that show.
11. Ah - found this. http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/jazz_bass/019-4690B_SISD.pdf
12. Which would you personally opt for? The OBP-3TK/PP or the OBP-3SK/PP?
13. That helps a lot thanks very much. Yeah I'm keen not to drill any new holes to be honest
14. I'm sure I'm being a dumbass here but which Aguilar OBP-3 option I should buy for my Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe 5? OBP-3TK: Includes separate Treble, Mid, and Bass pots, and black mini-toggle switch for Midrange frequency selection. OBP-3TK/PP: Includes separate Treble, Mid, and Bass pots. Mid pot is push/pull for Midrange frequency selection. OBP-3SK: Includes stacked Treble/Bass pot, Mid pot, and black mini-toggle switch for Midrange frequency selection. OBP-3SK/PP: Includes stacked Treble/Bass pot and separate Mid pot. Mid pot is push/pull for Midrange frequency selection. http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_preamps_obp3.htm
15. Don't know anything about Entwistles and have only heard good things about Nordstrands - never owned any mind. I've had some Aguilar hum cancelling pickups before that were very good in my opinion. I might get some for a 5er I've got coming myself.
16. Doesn't sound right to me. They should be about even in my opinion. May be worth taking to a shop to check up?
17. Serious bass from a serious bassist.
18. Some really, really good advice here. Can't wait to hear what you do.
19. I bought this a few weeks ago from Heathy. I've been playing rosewood/ebony/dark fingerboards since I started playing back in 1996 and haven't really gotten along with playing the maple fingerboard on this. American Standard Jazz Bass, Maple Fingerboard, 3-Color Sunburst with S1 switch. It was bought new from the Bass Centre in 2003. The bridge pickup has been professionally replaced with a Fender deluxe precision pickup. It was installed at Trevor Durrant guitars in Colchester (no longer there). The Facebook page for the guy who did it is here and it shows lots of examples of his work: https://www.facebook...bassman?fref=ts The controls are still Volume, Volume, Tone. The operation of the S1 switch is not affected by the replacement pickup. The weight is 9lb 4oz on my home scales. Happy to ship at buyers expense. The original moulded hard case and original pickup are both included.

Neck Material: Maple
Neck Shape: Modern "C"
Scale Length: 34" (864 mm)
Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" (241 mm)
Number of Frets: 20
Fret Size: Medium Jumbo
String Nut: Synthetic Bone
Nut Width: 1.5" (38.1 mm)
Neck Plate: 4-Bolt Standard
Neck Finish: Satin Finish on Back, Gloss Finish on Front
Fingerboard: Maple
Position Inlays: Black Dot
Trades with cash adjustment: 4 or 5-string Fender Jazz Bass American Standard in white, sunburst or black with rosewood fingerboard. 4 or 5-string Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe in white, sunburst or black with rosewood fingerboard. 4-string Fender Precision Bass American Standard in white, sunburst with rosewood fingerboard. 20. ...and mine is available for just £475
21. I'm not just writing about this because I have an SL 112 for sale but I've been keeping an eye on Aguilar prices and have noticed a sharp increase in prices over the past day or so. GAK, Gear4music have them up for £743 now. Anyone have any ideas about this. I'm not suggesting it is, but it seems almost like price fixing...
