  1. Think you've got my old sunburst flame top GB 99F. Great bass that one
  2. Beautiful! I've had half a dozen Cort GB basses (2 x GB74 +GB 75JH, GB94 and GB99F) and every one of them has been a great instrument to own. Massively underrated which fly under a lot of players' radars but they can easily hang with basses costing a lot more imo Keir
  3. That's a beauty Owen. The turquoise finish really is something to be honest I kind of miss the OMG setting now that my L-1000 has gone. One of, if not THE best instantly playable fingerstyle tones I've ever had from a bass. When you say you've taken delivery of a J5 do you mean a Fender Jazz 5 or a G&L JB5? Keir
  4. Looks lovely! Struck me that I've never owned a Yamaha bass🤔
  5. Walnut finish with the tort plate looks so good! 😍
  6. Definitely agree with this. I don't have one these days but I'm often tempted to go back to playing a five string just to play an SR5 again. Way different to the four string imo, just slots in with anything, nice fat even tone that never takes over, just compliments everything in just about any genre. I likely prefer the tone of the SR5s with ceramic magnets as they were on the ones I owned and prefer the Sterling to the Stingray 4 for the same reason (amongst other things). I play a pair of Classic Sabres now which as a bonus have a fairly convincing P bass sound on one of the settings too🙂
  7. Lovely colour. Always fancied a Jazz bass in this finish
  8. If I was going to have just one bass then a Streamer Stage II would be a serious contender. Before bass forums and GAS, I had a Stage I as my only bass for around 3 years. Loved that bass!
  9. one I’ve grown to like
  10. Beautiful bass. I look at it everyday. a classic case of if only I had the readies😞
  11. Hi yes it was. It went to another Basschat member who I bought it from at the beginning of April. Mick the Sabre is definitely a flavour worth trying😉 Thanks for the comments so far. It really really is a super example of the breed and a rare edition of an already few and far between MusicMan bass. Keir
  12. * withdrawn.* MusicMan Classic Sabre Sledge Didn’t think I would sell this but things change. Genuinely reluctant sale as I lusted after this bass when it became available previously but I already have another Sabre, which I’ve owned longer and am more attached to, can’t bring myself to sell my Valenti, the fretless isn’t shifting and I’ve seen some other basses which interest me. This is a 2013 build and was the first of the Classic Sabre series which ran for a few years before being discontinued. As far as I know, this one is the only rosewood fingerboard Sledge Sabre officially imported into the UK by Strings and Things, the official distributor for MusicMan. The bass has previously been owned by Andy Travis and EldonTyrell on here and I’m sure they will vouch for just how nice this bass is. 2013 Ltd edition Tony Levin Sledge finish which goes from grey to showing different colours depending on angle viewed from (see pics) The bass is in mint condition. Wildly figured maple neck with lovely rosewood fingerboard. No issues with the bass at all. Comes with MusicMan hard case and original black and WD pearloid pickguards. Weight is 4.6kg. Bass can be auditioned in Market Drayton, between Stoke and Shrewsbury. Prepared to post if buyer arranges their own courier and level of cover etc.

    NBD - Ray 34

Love the roasted necks. I keep ogling the new for ‘22 purple sparkle 4 string.
  14. The tuners have never been the same quality as the USA ones afaik. They do the job though.
  15. I had a couple of Ray 35s - a sunburst Made in Korea one from 2011 and the other, a black cherryburst made in Indonesia in 2016. The earlier Korean one had an ash body and a thin gloss coat on the neck whereas the other was mahogany with a satin finished neck. Both were very similar in feel though the Indonesian was a bit lighter. I also had a Ray34CA which had the 2EQ preamp and slab body and was made in Indonesia and that one one was imo a higher build quality than the two five strings. The one I had was every bit as good as the Classic StingRay that replaced it, save for the fancier woods. It was in some ways a better fit for me (Jazz profile neck). A Stingray with a J neck is a great combination imo. This year I had a Ray34HH, again from Indonesia and the quality was up there. Roasted neck was lovely and in retrospect I should have kept it. Not too sure that the electronics and hardware have changed much. They all sounded like StingRays to my cloth ears though I liked the 2EQ of the CA Classic Active best of all.
  16. I like Jazz basses. Always have done. On a G&L I always preferred the #8 (1.5” nut) jazz profile neck and it’s the same with MusicMan in that the USA Sterling has my favourite neck shape in their range. right now I have a Valenti, two G&L JB2s and two Sire V3s
  17. *withdrawn* * Price is a trade value only as looking to trade* bought from Embra on here at the start of April, this is a lovely fretless and a really nice example of the now discontinued USA JB-2 bass. Alder body finished in two tone sunburst with unlined ebony fingerboard. G&L Alnico single coils with passive VVT. G&L Saddle lock bridge and G&L branded tuners. Comes with Fender gig bag. Bass is strung with flat wounds at the moment and sounds and plays great. I just don’t get enough time to practice fretless so looking to trade for a nice fretted 4 string from G&L, MusicMan, Fender, Sandberg, Warwick, Lakland etc. cash either way depending on what is offered.

  18. I guess there’s hope MusicMan will re-start the Sterling in its original or maybe a revised Special version, in that it’s still showing on their instruments pages. The Classic StingRays have disappeared from the EBMM online site completely.
  19. A heads up for those with a soft spot for the Sabre, that I just started a MusicMan Sabre Appreciation page on FB a few days ago. It’s in no way meant to be an exhaustive resource on the bass, more just a place for existing fans and those curious/looking to buy a Sabre to get info, post pics, tell their stories etc. The page is for all versions of the Sabre as well as the Cutlass II. https://www.facebook.com/groups/406658267997398/ Hope to see some of you there! Keir
  20. I play bass in an 80s electronic covers band and I have a couple of synths I use with them. One is a Waldorf Streichfett for string synth sounds but my main one is a Novation Xio49 virtual analogue 4 octave synth with 200 presets and on board FX to cover everything else (mainly bass) I had two but let one go which I now regret and I’m keeping my eyes out for another) I really like the sounds from the Xio. Sounds way better than anything else I’ve come across for anything near to the price (I picked up both my Xio49 synths for under £100)
  21. Mike bought my Korg SQ64 sequencer. Really easy deal and a credit to Basschat! Keir
  22. Dave bought my Yamaha Sessioncake headphone amp. Great guy to deal with, highly recommended! Keir
  23. Rich bought my Caline Bass EQ pedal. Paid straight away and easy deal. Would be happy to buy, sell or trade with Rich in the future. Highly recommended! Keir
  24. G&L JB-2 fretless in 2-tone sunburst with ebony board.
