Would you fit a J Retro preamp into a vintage jazz bass?
supabock replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Accessories and Misc
My 1974 jazz bass has a lovely sound and tone but compared to my GB Rumour it feels a little lacking in the EQ dept!! To be honest with you, many basses will lack in EQ compared to the GB you have. I'm not sure comparing them is a good idea as they are two distinctive and very different instruments. I have just added the P Retro to my stock P bass, for more variation without loosing the traditional sounds it had already. There was the other issue of needing to get cleaner recorded signal from the bass, with a more significant eq also. I think as your bass is not stock and has a certain value albeit probably less than it would have had, had it been in original condition without the refin, you are unlikely to make any significant impact in its value by adding the retro. I would talk to John East about the functionality of the Retro with the pickups you have currently in the bass and then you can get a feel for what the retro will do for you. He's a great chap and will always fiond time to iron out peoples fears and concerns. -
Sorry about this - i haven't misunderstood you, i just can't seem to sus out what I'm supposed to be doing to get my PM up and running ? I'm working on it though, so please bear with me while i get to grips with my own incompetence !
Try going into your messages section and then select email settings and then make sure the hide my emai address from other members is not selected. Otherwise, speak to one of the admin or mods to sort it

Hi, I think you misunderstand, it is possible to send members on this site personal messages that go straight to your personal mailbox on the site. If someone sends you a PM by its very nature its a private mail and therefore people can communicate to discuss things like pricing or offers on kit you may be selling, or indeed their opinions if that's the case without having to post it as part of your thread. Your PM is still off Steve
Hi all, owns up to being the lucky owner of the Angel fretless five, just took delivery at the end of last week.. it's easily the best fretless I've ever played (and that includes two Wal MkIII fives). The finish is well.. STUNNING and the mahogay back allows a real fretless growl, as it's a 34" Bernie has slightly reduced the headstock to maintain proportion and the logos are in a Dark Brown to go with the finish. I'm away 'til the start of next week but will post some pix when I get back. The bass also has Bernies' newest finish on the back of the neck... wow, silkiest fastest feel ever. Sorry need to stop drooling... pity I can't change user mane to Spitfire5... Mods?.. It's THAT good. Andy p.s. been a bit of a protracted affair as I hummed and hawed a lot before making the move..thanks to EBS_Freak for the advice at the start of the journey and especially to Bernie for the top notch support and service as usual.
Bit of a bump on this one as i am sure i'm not the only one who would like to hear this bass....any chance??
