I use a Mac, though if necessary then I'll run software via VMWare if only a Windows version fits the bill. Better still, I love the idea of running an app on my iPad mini![/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]This will mainly be for small pedal sized projects and I'm not expecting to go down to SMT components yet. [/quote] Ok this sounds familiar. The BB cabs have much less of a mid dip in the response than many cabinets I have owned. This coupled with firing the sound in to your legs on stage softens the top end further accentuating those mids. Depending on amp settings and cabinet placement your lows possibly receded will not help. The boxy character would suggest a number of things adding up to make one problem.

You want a big fat juicy amp tone then buy a cabinet that has the same sonic character but you end up with flubby low end and incoherent top end. Been there, bought the T Shirt...

Completely flat response amps for example can sound bland in comparison unless you are getting your EQ elsewhere. A flat amp with a 'flat' cabinet can sound a bit weak and nasal in some circumstances. I have found that I prefer 'hifi' rather than flat response in nearly all cases. All cabinets are coloured, yup that's a fact. Some more so than others and to great effect I feel.

SiPhilips, how do you place your cabinets? Are you able to point it towards your ears or get it up high? Sometimes clarity is lost when we are pushed on to tight stages and we have little choice but to fire the sound out to our knee caps. I was wondering if you were having to do the same? As for lows, I do know the BB2 and PJB (to a point) don't have a baked in 'bump' in the lows. Maybe a cabinet with that could be the way to go? It would sound fuller from a flat EQ setting and pleasing to the ear. A bit like punching in the loudness button on hifi separates! If you can try one - and I haven't checked where you are, the Bergantino CN212 I think might be a nice solution. Or if you were near to me and wanted to stick to BF, I have a barefaced Big Twin II which I think would be stunning.

The OP may well not have to buy anything new at all as the issues could be elsewhere. *trying* not buying an amp could help to discover this.

The BB2 is only second to a nuns habit when it comes to being untainted.

Incidentally I use mine with TC BH800 which is also a very clean sounding amp.

The EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive on its lowest setting I think fits the bill perfectly. The tone control is a sweep rather than just the usual 'top end roll off' and you get an EBS compressor and two effect loops thrown in too!

So I stand corrected, Rolls came back to me to say that the SX21 has up to 24dB of gain!
