1. I don't think it's actually out yet. I asked Korg before Christmas and they said they'd let me know when it was.
 2.
I absolutely love these strings for drop C tuning. I have used them for anything between D Standard and C standard and they deliver. In my opinion, they are far better than the DR and Dunlop sets that are supposedly designed for lower tunings. The D'Addarios are also much cheaper. Due to the size of the strings they are not great for slap, but in terms of tapping, bending, general speed across the fretboard, I haven't encountered any difficulties. My personal opinion is that when it comes to lower tunings, having balanced tension is much more important than just say adding a couple of gauges equally across all strings, which just leads to the same old 'floppy E string, tight G string' problem. I did try a set of custom Newtones for my five string tuned to A standard, which were nice, but expensive. I have since discovered that if I tuning a four string down to C, I don't really need an extra string! If only they made a five string set.
Just a great well thought out set of strings in my view. No messing about!
 3.
Gosh, I didn't expect this kind of response, thanks guys! Means a lot! I could always just keep it tuned to CGCF, and then when I want to play something in standard, move my fingers up two frets?
Hey no problem ! Hope it helps Yes you could even, should you be so inclined, to use a Capo on the second fret automatically pushing the bass up to Drop D. Who cares what people think, it will work and that's the main thing! (Says he who uses a big girlie scrunchy as a mute on his bass!)
 4.
Good Lord, a plausible excuse! Well done.
heh heh!! But did you notice how long I was gone before I answered
 5.
But do you need one??
That's still a yes I'm going to use the cabs via my normal power amplifier as a P.A for certain performances... oh and of course I've got some really sexy TC stereo effects to make use of too
 6. I want a second Big Twin II. I really do!
 7.
Oh totally, if you need to go back to standard tuning, then something like the D'Addarios is perfect. However in First Signs Of Frost, I was only ever in C Standard, basses setup specifically for it, and lot of the lines were fast unison runs etc, so crazy heavy gauges would have been not better (sic). As such, a heavier/thicker core to increase tension was better for me, I could be in C standard, with 45-105 gauge, and a tension similar to standard tuning.....but obviously wouldn't tune up to standard....they'd snap lol. But yes, it really all depends on your use case Si
Right, yes accept that if you need to tune back up to standard, that makes sense, but apologies if I've misunderstood, I expected that the instrument would stay in that tuning, especially if the set up was also adjusted to suit the strings.
 8. Just for fun I've calculated what would be the optimum gauge string to keep the same tension and feel as a set of D'Addario EXL165 strings - 105-45 when tuning down to CGCF
Gauge

Tension
0.0520 in. 42.20 lbs 0.0750 in. 49.49 lbs 0.0950 in. 43.99 lbs 0.1350 in. 38.47 lbs
 9. Actually, better still - let an app decide for you! http://www.stringtensionpro.com/
 10. Oh here's a superb place to find out what gauge string to use to get the tension back up to the same as the rest of the strings (ish) http://www.daddario.com/upload/tension_chart_13934.pdf
 11.
Ooooosshh, a 90 A and a 120 E, braver than me lol Si
On a drop tuning I'd say they were essential! 110 is good for a drop D tuning, but it's gotta be heavier for a C. especially if the other strings are dropping a tone from standard, for sure! I recorded a track for Sacred Mother Tongue ages ago on my PJ bass using these strings and it sounded superb, as well as having a nice tension across the strings for fast pick work.
 12. These by a long distance http://www.daddario.com/DADMobileProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3757&productid=380&productname=EXL160BT_Nickel_Wound__Balanced_Tension_Medium__50_120 120-50 is a great set for that tuning!
 13. Good question! I'm not sure!
 14.
Disclaimer: I have not personally tried the TC compressor, though it's on my watch list. I have only good experiences with my TC pedals. Sometimes when people say they found a compressor noisy it could be that adding a compressor amplified existing noise from their other pedals. Just a thought. Tone prints are really cool, and the possibility of setting up your own favourite compressor in the editor is tempting. Could lead to many wasted hours too I guess.
The other thing I noticed that isn't mentioned in the manual is the truly bonkers amount of gain available on the sweep of the level knob. In the app it suggests being able to set up in the order of 50dB. Even if it were just 20, I would challenge even the very best compressors to not amplify signal chain noise. Wind that control round and you will definitely get noise. No fault of the pedal.
 15.
This is making me want to try the Hyper Gravity ! Can you have the edit screen open on your computer and use the compressor at the same time to ''live'' test the adjustments ?
Yes yes!! You certainly can!
 16. Seems he's having a bad day! TC Support have been nothing but amazing for me on the over 20 years of using their kit. Honestly. That aside, the HG is a good compressor out of the box but when it really comes in to its own is when paired with the TonePrint app. When I'm not typing on my mobile I'll add more info - but at the moment I would say that under the bonnet there is access to every parameter you can possibly think that you might need and a whole bunch you don't know you need. One of my favourites is the ability to assign the knobs to other parameters than those labelled. Very cool. The triple bands are totally adjustable and you can save your own TonePrints depending on what you are using the pedal for. I've some cool 'valve-like' settings, sub bass boost, hifi comp, old skool fingerstyle, tapping frenzy solo boost and good ole squish sounds. Yeah it's really very good but I didn't use any of the 'default' settings.
 17. If I understand it correctly, a PJB cab with eight 5" cones in is roughly equivalent to a standard 2x10 cabinet in terms of speaker surface area.
 18. I'm pleased with the responses! Indeed, I too have a partner who is totally amazed that I have no idea what some of my favourite songs are about - or even what most of the lyrics actually are! When I am asked why I started playing bass, I tell people that one of the reasons is that I discovered that I hummed bass lines when ever I was singing along to a song. I must have been a weird little boy to listen to ha ha ha!
 19.
having watched the Billy Sheehan demo of it I'm blown away by the way it has the dry and wet signal effect loops and comes with TRS Y splitter cable ...the sonic possibilities seem amazing... but It's not a real tube is it? Just a simulation.... hmmmm
Well, it's not a tube simulation at all - it's a distortion pedal. It can provide the very light grit that you are after though. For the lack of tube, in performance or dropped in a recorded mix, you wouldn't tell anyway. I'm not of course suggesting you are wrong - to be honest I really love tubes in the clean signal. Just suggesting an alternative in the absence of a valve solution.
 20.
Personally, I'd go for a Zoom MS-60B. Yes, its a multi-fx, but the compressor models are decent and very configurable, and there's no rule that says you can't use it like a single pedal if you want to.
That's a good point - you get more than one 'compressor model' to choose from too which may tickle ya fancy.
The learning curve is steep (same as any CAD I expect), but there's some good pedal-specific tutorial videos on the 'Eagle' sub-forum over on the MadBean forum Si
That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for actually! - I learn stuff fairly quickly when working examples are available, so that's perfect. I've installed the app and will have a play later. MadBean here I go!
 22. WITHDRAWN - SORRY TO ALL.
 23. Hi Tobie and everyone who has messaged! I do have good news for you. I have managed to secure some boxes that I hope are suitable for shipping both cabinets together. Now, I had received several messages about shipping the cabinets including definite interest in purchasing. So, I have replied to the first person who showed interest originally (first PM message in). I apologise if I have missed any messages coming in, but as I'd mentioned above I hadn't originally planned to ship as it is a bit hectic here still and thus I've not necessarily been on top of messages.
Eagle is free, assuming you stick to smallish projects, i.e. Not bigger than a PCB that fits in a 1590BB (unlikely) Si
I will seek it out, thank you.
 25. TC Electronic Hyper Gravity is my top spot favourite compressor. About 100 quid I think but essentially you have TC's famed studio triple band compressors in a pedal. Very nice!
