Definitely try out the TC Electronic BH800 to add to the list, but for Double Bass as well? The Bergantino B|Amp probably trumps the lot for feature set.

I went to see a close and dear friend last week who is on tour with Paul Gilbert right now. It was a great gig, then afterwards my mate came out to grab me and go back stage to hang with Paul and band mate, the rather cool Pete Griffin on bass.
Bass as a melodic and lead instrument is as valid as virtually any other instrument. It's people's narrow-mindedness that's the problem. People have preconceived ideas of what an instrument should, and shouldn't do.
x1M

Which octavers track down the lowest? - I guess that rules out any Analogue Octave effect..

Could also be a good idea and solution yes!!
That's the badger. So when is the dood self build making an appearance?
The self build is on the shelf for a bit! Now the Fischer stick has come along there's less urgency to come up with a solution. The ability to run stereo down an XLR cable as well as being a small lightweight unit is a real winner. There's also a level switch for low and high impedance earphones too! It was worth the extra money.

Thanks guys! Will look in to! Dan

If the jack IS wired correctly, then if there isn't anything connected to it, the circuit is not complete and a break in the power path will mean that the device shouldn't be able to draw any power. Yes, I would check as BRX says that there aren't any opportunities for wire to touch each other and that would include making sure there isn't a problem with the battery clip. I have, just once, seen an open type which had a hair thin wire strand sticking out touching the opposite terminal. The likelihood of that is slim, but worth checking. You say the 'tech is stumped'. The installer is actually a tech? Or just a bloke at a shop who knows how to use a soldering iron? Continuity testing, even basic use of a 'multimeter' should be able to track down how this type of preamplifier is remaining powered up.

I've temporarily shelved the plan whilst other stuff is taking over my spare time, but I have at least ordered my sockets ready!

I love the idea but I can't get my head round the lack of efficiency having a pickup so far away from the strings under the pick guard. It's got to be a massively overwound pickup to get the level high enough or the P pickup quiet to balance it's output?
I've actually used one of those on a dep gig. That'll do the job nicely.

Pilfered. These will do nicely for the drummist and guitar player who are always wired. Or the Behringer PM1? That'll work with the XR18 won't it?

Brilliant, thank you Ordered!
Right! Brilliant! It has arrived already! Can't wait to try it out! Really pleased with it so far - a lot smaller than I thought and very light too!
Cheers dood!
No problem!!
After reading this thread I've just booked my appointment for a test, hopefully leading to having a moulded set made. I've used the Christmas tree ones for years but never got used to them so often haven't bothered putting them in or wear only one. Not good. With the big six - oooh coming next May and over 40 years working in loud environments it's a wonder I've any hearing left. time for action at last. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Frank.
Yes!!! Good on ya! I hope the hearing test goes well for you! - I get my lug'oles checked when I have my eyes tested every two years. it's good to keep an eye on any degradation I may be suffering. What's interesting is that when I wear earplugs for a long two hour gig, I actually feel less worn out too. There must be something about having your ear drums pummelled constantly that has a bearing on well-being too! Maybe it's just me ha ha!! That said, I LOVE my in-ear monitors, a whole new level of musical comfort
Hi dood! How would you compare the clarity/ frequency responce between the er15s and the 64 audios?
I would compare for you, but it'd be an unfair comparison as my ER15 should get an award for long service! You are meant to get remoulds every 4 years or so... mine may have done double that! (The seal never failed though). My 64's are brand new and have a different attenuation level so I think they do sound different. Maybe the filters are weaker in the ER's now. I do think that the 64's have the flatter or, more even response though. A softer tone at the moment. I do also have the 64 Audio A8 in-ear monitors and I'm really getting used to them.. and I love them. Such a refined sound!

I'll take a picture of some I did recently. I used one of the craft glass-fibre pens. It took a lot of rubbing down to get the poles shiny but worked in the end. Then to protect the poles from future damage, I applied clear nail varnish giving them a glassy finish. Finally I treated each set to new pickup covers. They looked really great! A month later I took them out and replaced them with EMGs... lol..
Dan, i have a Q-MAX cutter for making holes for these Neutrik connectors. if you find a suitable box I'll happily cut the holes for you.

^^ WINNER ^^
Bloody love you guys Thank you so much! Dave, I'll be in touch soon! The box is only a passive splitter, so very little space needed inside. It'll take a dual mono input (XLR pair) and send it through to a stereo XLR with a 1/4" in parallel. I'll figure out what box is needed to fit those neutrik sockets.
I see TC Electronic have K212 and RS212 (both in 8 ohm). Anyone know the sound-difference between those?
Yes, The K-Cabs are great! The K212 goes a little deeper than the RS and the top end has more of a sparkle owing to the difference in tweeters. The RS cabinets have a slightly more prominent mid range, but still manage a hifi type character with the right amp. Naturally the RH has that 'rock valve amp' presence and the BH heads are more about the wide big clean volume. I really liked the K-Cabs in review. a 210 on top of a 212 sounded great. I was impressed with the big tones from the 410 and 115 combination too in my review.
+1 on the Spectracomp. Ultimate flexibility including 'New York' style parallel compression.
Indeed! My secret weapon on bass for nearly 20 years!
-
LOVE the Spectracomp!!!! When you get under the bonnet and start using editing the TonePrints you have a very thorough compressor with more parameters available for tweaking than any other pedal on the market. If you just load TonePrints though it's dead simple, sounds great and rather impressive. It's my favourite. I also think the Hyper Gravity and now discontinued Nova Dynamics are very good. All three are triple band compressors where many are only single or dual band. That said, the EBS Multicomp, although particular, is good. I think the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass is absolutely brilliant as a full-band comp. It's blending options are clever and very helpful.

I need to make up a sort of junction box containing two male Neutrik XLRs, a female combo XLR and a 1/4" jack. I've found the odd outlet online selling massively overpriced boxes. Does anyone know of an outlet that stock or drill boxes? I'd prefer metal - think of it as being needed for DI type jobs. I don't want it to fall to pieces!! I'd make one up myself but my current tools (and spare time) are making it less convenient! Here's the kinda thing I want to achieve: But not necessarily having to cough up £30 for the pleasure!!
I lost one of my ER15 filters on Friday - I don't suppose you'd like to sell one?
I would, but I think in terms of health, probably not wise! They've seen lots of use in my lugoles!
I've looked on a few different sites and they seem range in price from about £490 up to nearly £2,000, is that right!
Custom In-Ear Monitors (Posh earphones lol)will probably be more like that price, but Ear Plugs (Passive audio level attenuation) noooo, more like £150. Two different devices altogether

That'll work with the XR18 won't it?
I decided against the P1 simply because it's an unnecessary house brick. Completely no need for a belt pack to be that over sized lol! - For tub thumpers with this mounted to a stand, yes it will work well. There's also the LD HPA, Fischer equivalent and also a model by Presonus. All big and chunky! I'm feeling quite pleased with myself over the Fischer 'stick. Should be quite a nice bit of kit. - I'd already started drafting schematics to have something like it made - and as it happens I think my own idea is better still.. but for now, something ready made will fit the job!
