1. Re the skunk stripe. If it has a rosewood fingerboard or a maple neck with a separate maple fingerboard there is a good chance it won`t have the skunk stripe as they can fit the truss rod before fiiting the board. If it is a one piece maple neck, it will have a skunk stripe. I think CBS bought Fender in 64 so your bass is defo post CBS. Jez

Andy 67

Just done a trade with Andy and it was a pleasure to do biz with him. The bass was exactly as described, good comunication and a nice guy too boot. Jez
3. I would say it`s a good deal as OLP`s usually go for £120-£150 and a Tokia around £370-£480 ish. The Tokia is always going to be worth the same money, certainly not any less, mabye a bit more in the future if it`s in decent nick and if you say this one is mint, I would go for it. Jez
4.
Guess when this was taken.......................
Are you Chris Glen`s long lost doppelganger? Jez
5.
Here's a gritty one of me in RAWK mode...
Discreet, you have one of those "I`ll be round for the redies next fursday and if you ain`t got the dosh, I`ll be posting bits of you back to your mum" faces. Or is it just me? Jez
6. Looks like it. It has the MM style bridge as well. I don`t recall OLP making any other kind of bass designs. And I wouldn`t call that a bass design! Jez
7. Isn`t that always the way with Fender`s when they change things? There always seemed to be a year or so when they made major changes to a bass, when the 2 specs sort of appeared side by side. Jez
8. According to The Fender Bass book, aka "the bible" 1974/5 "The thumbrest is moved to the bass side of the body.Like their rosewood counterparts, Jazz bass maple necks are given pearl block inlays and white binding. Prior to that, maple necks were bound in black with a black block inlay. Three bolt necks are the norm on Jazz basses and installation of black pickgaurds is being standardized on all models." So there is is a good chance that it could be legit but as the guy has previous..... Jez
9. I have been thinking lately about all the guys who have been shuffiling from this mortal coil recently and was wondering who was next to go. This is truly a sad day for music and bass players in particular. I`m off to play Melting pot to remember the man. Jez
10.
i have to ask why does that bass on ebay have a strap button on the bak of the headstock ? was that the norm
It was so that upright bass players could play the bass in the upright position if they desired, more than likley to persuade doubtfull upright players to switch to the "new" style. I have never seen a pic of anyone using one like that though. Jez
11. On hold pending. Jez
12. Nah Johnny, 74 wasn`t a vintage year for kidney`s, especially yours!! Thanks for the kind words. Had a think about this. As I would still need another bass, I may part exchange this for a bass up to the value of around £160. Basically I would be looking for £200 plus a bass from you. Would be looking for another P bass, some kind of Ibanez or a Yamaha. Pm me if intrested Jez
13. Billy I had put the price in the heading but not in the post and have amended it, so ta for that. Might take you up on the scratchplate. Jez
14. This bass has now been traded. Jez
15. Ta Daz for the nice words. I just like reading about the music biz but I`m running out of room to keep them all. If no one on here wants them, off to the charity shop they go! Jez
16. Got quite a few rock biographies that I had on gumtree for sale but no one seems to want them. If anyone wants them you can come round and collect them. I will not post them. Pm me if you want any of them or all of them. And no taking them off me and putting on E bay or similar!! Pink Floyd/Nick Mason - Inside out, story of Floyd Jeff Beck - Hot wired guitar biography Glen Hughes - autobiography Free and Bad company Duff McKagan - autobiography Dave Mustaine - autobiography Queen unseen Ozzy and Sharon Ozbourne- Ordinary people Elvis - Last train to memphis Dave Grohl -Nothing to lose The Police - Walking on the moon Jez
17. Great deal that. But you can buy a brand new Jim Deacon bass from cc music in Glasgow for £129 that hasn`t been "re-furbished" by this guy. I would read the post in the E bay section of the forum before deciding to take a punt on this and make up your own mind. I can`t find the link but it`s there somewhere. Jez
18. Wow!! That`s ++++AWA Nah ain`t saying it. Really cool looking bass. Jez
19. Featuring that well know Strat player Brian May!! He even comes on at the end during the simply shocking version of stay with me playing his Red special. Are we missing the point Mr May? I have had the dvd version for a few years and it`s mostly good except too much Joe Walsh. Jez
20. I didn`t look at the pics, I assumed the op was taliking about the 70`s Jap one with the block maple neck. If this was the one he was refering to, I`d buy that one. I still wouldn`t pay the price for those US specials. It was only a couple of years ago you could buy a Highway 1, the bass I believe the special replaced, for around £550. And 5 posts to pull us up? Are you bored Jez
21. The American Special? Built in the good old US by Mexicans. I would rather search about for a good MiM than buy one of these. I`d buy the Jap one myself. Or, 800 will get you a really nice US standard second hand on here with the fancy case. Jez
22. Who cares what it`s called! If it is a decent budget bass at a decent price, I don`t give a monkeys what it says on the end of the headstock. The original SUB basses died a few years ago and if anyone is looking for an original one, they can get one second hand. Where`s the problem? It seems that EB has come to the conclusion that Fender came to and realised that if you build a good budget bass, when the person has more experiance/cash they might buy one of the US made models and if you can`t afford a US one, well, mabye the cheap one will do. Jez
23. I don`t think the body is a Squier as they normally route out the wood so it`s easier to wire the neck pickup. The Mexican bodies usually have the circular "stash" hole on the body that means you can`t use with the pickgaurd off. They tuners are the kind that are fitted to the Mexican Standards. Even the cheap Jap one`s I have seen have the flat tops that pertrude through the headstock. You can get Jap necks with the skunk stripe. The decal looks genuine but it may be a bitsa bass made from Fender bits. If you are happy with the way it plays, enjoy it. But please cut off those bits of excess strings!! Jez
