  1. Yes me too on the panning, a bit like stereo phasing ?
  2. Because I would expect to have reduced high frequency top end loss at my age, and playing in loud bands for decades would exacerbate this What I find strange is there is a 10Khz ish ceiling above which nothing happens. If the frequencies sloped off then yes, but it appears that they just stop However much you pump up the volume The dog whistle analogy is a good one does it also apply to to old mutts ?
  3. Tried it again with a set of consumer headphones - the low bass is about the same I take Dood's point that with so many variables in play this kind of thing is in no way a scientific test, and is really just a bit of fun here on Basschat What I've found strange is the way that above a certain frequency I cannot hear anything at all. Turning the volume up makes no difference, almost like using some kind of super hard limiter - that's your lot mate nothing more, move along please...
  4. As I've had tinnitus for years I listened through a set of Tannoy Reveal monitors instead of headphones (just in case it kicked the tinnitus up a notch) 31Hz to 9.4KHz is as good as it got with my born in the fifties lugholes At first I wondered if the Tannoys were capable of producing the real low end signal, holding my thumb on the speaker cone seems to suggest that indeed they can I can't hear that at all While this thread is still in it's infancy, would it be possible to also include results for the lowest frequency, seems like an opportunity missed ? Thanks Al interesting stuff
  5. Bought a bass from Mick Extremely well boxed up and a great straightforward sale. Very nice chap and a pleasure to chat to All the best Mick
  6. I actually clicked on that to see a higher definition image
  7. Just suggesting all that above as a first step, unfortunately there could be lots of possible reasons, but a new battery is going to be needed at some point anyway.
  8. I'd get a good branded replacement battery and try that first. They have a date printed on the packaging. I left a lead plugged into an active bass once, which meant the circuit was drawing power and drained the battery. The contacts in the battery compartment were covered in that green verdigris gunk, so if that has happened either now or in the past, in needs cleaning up. You could get an intermittent contact and maybe that could cause the popping, particularly if you are jumping about and throwing shapes at the end of the evening 😃 Leaving the gear in the car is not a good idea, dread to think how many times I've been guilty of that😶
  9. Thanks for posting the Scott Edwards link, Lowdown, interesting stuff
  10. My USB interface occasionally becomes unrecognised by Windows. I right click the speaker icon on the taskbar, click on Troubleshoot sound problems, follow the procedure shown and usually this is enough for everything to return to normal operation. Sometimes that doesn't work but there is an option on there to reinstall drivers, then a quick reboot, this has worked without fail. So far ! Joe, just seen above that it is all working again.😃 If it happens again, give the above a try, my laptop seems to not like the USB cable being unplugged and needs a gentle kick in the nether regions to get it to behave. Don't we all.
  11. I'd try a proper fret rocker rather than a straight edge, that way you could assess the frets over the whole neck. I had a similar problem with a newish bass bought from here, fret buzz on the low C on the A string. The 4th fret had not been filed correctly, so the C note buzzed, but only that one note, on that string. Then found the same thing way up the neck on one note on a string at the 10 or 11th fret. So on my bass raising the action at the bridge was not the answer, and adjusting the truss rod would just confuse the issue. Recommend using a fret rocker as a first step to solving the problem.
  12. A "friend" asked the seller the following question... Hi there... really interested in the Fender Jazz bass, it was made in Japan ? Looks like a great restoration project . If I am successful in buying this instrument and it turns out not to be a Fender at all, but a cheap knockoff 70's/80's copy as has been pointed out to you several times before, I take it there would be no problem with you issuing a full refund of my genuine money. Like real money-- not counterfeit crap as in your listing? All the best The sellers reply... Hi it is copy counterfeit crap I dont want Your real money so please do not bit and dont wast my and Your time please, thank You for cooperation and understanding Regards .
  13. Not been in my local PMT for a month or two, so I've not seen the lack of price tags. Is it all of the guitars and basses on display that are unpriced? Are the effects pedals, amps, keyboards, PA gear etc also on display -- without prices ?
  14. How does a seller like this have 100% feedback ?
  15. Am I right in thinking that HMV saved Fopp a while back ?
  16. I don't think Sigma have been associated with Martin for many years, but that is a cracking price for a quality instrument. Very tempted myself
  17. I'm by no means an expert but I put a no load tone pot (the last part of the tone pot is then bypassed) on a precision and didn't like the sound. Has a harshness to the treble which was not pleasant. Sure you could extend the pickup leads to the output jack to try it out though
  18. Bought two sets of Adagios for £26 quid put one set on a Precision, they are super smooth, thumpy and with next to no left hand finger noise. Never tried flats before now feel like I've been missing out for far too long. Next step - put the other set on my Jazz bass, good move? Hmmn not sure ?
  19. Thanks for your replies everybody, it will help the relatives of my workmate not get ripped off. The Auctioneers valued a 90's Gibson Explorer at around £200. Luckily they didn't proceed with this. Sorry for the thread derail !!
  20. Thanks Mr Reggaebass so if you sell for £500 and use Paypal you end up with about £432 or thereabouts, does that sound about right ? A work colleague is about to sell some gear on behalf of the parents of a recently deceased family member. And I couldn't answer the question cos I've only ever bought stuff and never sold Thanks for your help
  21. Bought a few items on here with almost zero problems and a whole lot more on Ebay again with no problem at all. Never sold a thing on Ebay however, so wondering what you would end up with if you sold a bass/ amp whatever for say £500 on Ebay. I know Google exists but I'd like to hear from the people on BC with actual experience of this. Thanks in advance
