Ah, so the old "computer remedy" could now be affecting amps too? I have the TCBG550 head, and I've not noticed anything - then again, it's not getting heavy usage currently I'm just wondering whether there is an overload cut-out protection on these heads? That may be another possibility - anyone on here know? I can certainly understand how you could lose confidence in an amp, and I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you I had a similar issue, several years back. I was playing in a pub, and the bass amp just suddenly stopped working - then cut back in again. At first, I thought it was the 2nd hand bass combo I'd then recently acquired.... Only to find out that I was plugged in to a mains socket which had one of those noise level cut out switches on! The other band members had plugged into sockets which didn't have this, and I was the unlucky one who had! No-one had told me that mine was the socket fitted with this "added feature", and though I was a bit miffed at this, I was also relieved, as my amp was OK BTW. It's never a good idea to run everything from one mains socket, as you can overload the mains circuit. I don't think this was the issue with your amp though - otherwise everyone else's power would have been affected. Most of all - good luck finding out the cause - hope it's not a problem with these amps - I really like my TC head

Honestly, they are superb pickups for the money - and having considerably larger magnets, they produce a BIG sound

Could you also consider making the bass passive? - Just wondering whether that might be easier? Just a thought I've now got 2 P/J basses, and I really love the tonal options the arrangement gives you. I've fitted Entwistle PBXN and JBXN pickups to both mine (NB the PBXN has higher output than the PBX, and the JBXN has higher output than the JBX) Entwistle pickups are relatively cheap, and pack a heck of a punch for a passive pickup Alternatively, Kiogon of this forum, produces some great wiring kits. Really easy to fit - he can supply you with solderless versions to most kits I think. You could try messaging him - see what he says. He's incredibly helpful, even if you're not buying one of his kits - drop him a PM Cheers and best of luck with it PS. I once owned a Westone Thunder Jet, when they first came out. Not an active bass, but a great bass Westones are under-rated IMO

I've never really given this too much thought before. Perhaps because I've sometimes played gigs and small festivals in the daytime too... As the OP says, I wouldn't want to play when feeling really full - but I wouldn't want to play when feeling really hungry either. I have been known to have a couple of packets of crisps before going on stage.... and we're back to junk food again. I suppose in general, gigging is not good for your health? EDIT: Re the Guinness comment - I don't like to play after too many beers either! I'm usually driving, so can't drink much anyway. Usually, I'll have maybe just a pint or half before playing. I once had 3 pints (as someone else was driving that eve) - and I really noticed how it affected my playing!

It looks in pretty good condition to me. I wouldn't use an ordinary furniture polish - be sure to use a polish specifically for guitars But as Sonic_Groove says in his post above - "Don't clean it" Or at least - I'm not sure I'd clean that fretboard There is something about old instruments - especially basses, of course

So, Just bumping this thread, as someone asked whether any BC'ers had bought one? I'm quite interested in medium scale basses atm. I've got one, which I dabble with, and find it quite a comfortable scale Whilst it's not the most attractive Fender bass, I agree that they're trying something a bit different. After all, plenty of people call Fenders "boring" or "run of the mill" and accuse them of not being adventurous enough with design! - so hats off to them for trying something unusual. Also, it looks very similar in terms of neck finish, to the Squier Classic Vibe series. If it's made in the same factory as the CV's and the Matt Freeman sig - then I'm sure it'll be great quality! I quite like the colour, and I quite like the shape & design personally, though I agree I'd probably want to see the pickup in a different position, and it probably would look better with two pickups - perhaps a P/J, or maybe a P and MM type pickup? Anyhow, I'm also wondering whether any BC'ers have one of these? I'd just like to hear the thoughts of someone who plays one

I'm not particularly a fan of Headless basses. But I don't dislike that bass. In fact, I quite like it! The colour is OK too - I've definitely seen worse, and IMO, uglier basses Some might say "what do you expect?" - as I've currently got a penchant for Shell Pink basses This looks an OK sort of travel bass to me; Quite small, probably fairly light, due to the small body Great if you're using battery amps and busking or doing jam sessions, and want something less bulky to cart around The thing I don't quite like about it is the "clamp" at the (lack of) headstock end - it doesn't look that secure to me Maybe that's just the photo though?

I wasn't aware of those Electroharmonics pedals either. Always nice to know such things exist.... I know the OP didn't really want to "colour" the tonal output of his bass, but another alternative could be to use a D.I. Pedal, and set the tonal controls to "flat". I mention this because these pedals are quite cheap. One here on ebay is around £25. Luckily, I got mine for a tenner, second-hand locally (Though a local Facebook "guitar gear for sale forum"). Though it's quite noisy when you boost the higher frequencies - there's a really quite good degree of tonal control with it... I'm really a 4 string player. But one of the reasons I'm not quite so comfortable with 5's, is that I find the string spacing too narrow. I do like to be able to get my fingers in between strings, and "dig in" if / when I want to. So I know where you're coming from, re narrow string spacing. Some players don't seem at all bothered, or seem comfortable with narrower spacing, but it's not for me.... The trade off, of course, is that if you space the strings further apart, you end up with quite a wide neck (at least at the base, even if the neck is very markedly tapered) And I don't like the neck to be too wide either. So I guess there's just no satisfying me, really Lol My Yamaha 5'er is around 18mm between string centres. Think I'd struggle with any less...

I've got an Epifani 110 for the same reasons of portability & weight (well, in fact, I've got two of those cabs - as together, they form a great rig for DB) The Epifani 110's are the best sounding 1x10 cabs I've heard - though they're a tad heavier than the Barefaced One10 I use mine sometimes with a TC head, and sometimes with my tiny EA550W micro head. The EA head is incredibly small and lightweight, but sounds a tad "flat" and a bit hifi-like to my ears - so I then use a pedal, to muck about with the EQ (which means more stuff / leads etc to carry) I get a great sound with my TC head though... Sorry to be late to this thread - but I've only just seen it
