1. He seems a really reasonable bloke, from the email contact I've had with him I'm sure he won't feel "bothered" by your enquiry and I'm sure he'll find another customer to buy your bass I'd say, go on - give him a try But also, see what he'd do about a neck-swap......
  2.
Well I'm always up for a bit of nudity, but on the other hand...
Oooooh - so very nice! Please, stop tempting me and making want more basses You know what? I don't think I've seen a Limelight that I don't like.....

    Celtic Connections

Fab news! Good on you Always fancied going up to Celtic Connections Looks awesome...
  4. Glad you like your new bass Not seen or heard one myself But it's great news that you got the bass you really wanted I keep spreading the word about BC too It's a great forum Sheesh, I'm amazed you can afford a bass after buying a Kate Bush ticket! lol Enjoy that bass
  5. The P/J pickup arrangement is great Nice looking bass, esp with the maple neck GLWTS - shouldn't be around long at that price
  6.
I had GAS for an Ibanez Musician bass ...so have bought one from another member and shall be receiving hopefully next week
Ah, someone with a fab NBD next week! .... will it cure your GAS though?
  7.
Really? The triangular inlays and chequer binding are two of the things that make Rickenbacker basses stand out visually for me. Without them, they are a bit bland really.
I have to say, I too like the neck binding and triangular inlays on Ricks.... Although the distinctive shape definitely doesn't look bland, it does somehow not look quite as good as a Rick with binding and usual inlays.... £3,700 - sheesh! Can't see many players forking that amount out
  8.
......I wanted one I could grow into rather than need to sell if I liked it and so far so good, the solid top, ebony board and adjustable bridge mean it can be setup at a later date...... Good luck with the house sale, and feel free to come and see mine some time to get an idea of what the fit and finish is like etc, just drop me a pm.
My David Gage, which I bought from Greg on here, came fitted with an adjustable bridge If you can go for a Gedo with one of these, I'd recommend it I've tweaked the bridge height on my DB a few times, until I got it just how I wanted Something not so easy with a bridge you need to carve to shape... plus of course, I can always change it again, should my style of playing change (i.e. improve lol) I have to say, I really like the look and colours / tones of some of those Gedo basses Good luck with the house sale / move from me too Cheers again

Ah, well done you I've got too many basses - they're all different One or two of them perhaps not quite "different enough" for some tastes But somehow I just like having a bit of choice.... Anyhow, it's very brave of you, and to be admired Now you just have to stave off that GAS
  10.
Why dont you ask Mark if he can swap the neck? I got mine in the summer last year and its going nowhere
Another in agreement here Karlfer Mark seems such a reasonable guy to deal with, I'm sure he'd do any mods for you Also, I don't know how he achieves that fantastic finish on the necks he fits - they really do feel aged & worn-in Maybe he'd offer you a refund / part-ex on your old neck? Or maybe someone else would buy the neck from you? I can't believe just how good Limelights are....
  11.
Hey there Limelighters! Those of you that have 70's-ish P's... do they have jumbo frets?
I'm pretty sure that one of the 2 Limelights I played did have jumbo frets... Pretty sure, but not 100% certain, unfortunately (my ageing memory etc etc! lol) But I've emailed Mark, and I think as long as he can source the correct neck, complete with Jumbo frets He'll do it for you, however you specify.... Seems a great guy to deal with IMO
  12.
I'm Looking for a small but loud amp solution ... lugging trace while sounded great and making me feel 15 again ... Is not doing me favors in the long run , and my other half wants the living room door to open all the way rather than bonking into the front of a stack.
I feel your pain! - as the years advance, we all need the same, or more power, but in half the size cabs, which are a quarter of the weight lol My old rig was huge, heavy, and gave me 150W Opting for a Markbass rig was the right move for me, defo! However, I now wish it was half the weight! .... moving goalposts eh? I played using a pals old Trace last year, and I'd forgotten just how heavy they are Good luck with your search I really shouldn't have any GAS I've got the DB I really love, I've got a nice EUB, great amp gear Several fab basses, inc my fave - my roadworn Fender Jazz I just bought a bitsa P bass, which has the mods I was going to do on my CV Squier i.e. 2 pickups, in a P/J arrangement (so I must sell the CV Squier - which is brilliant) .... but I still keep looking at some of the cracking Limelight basses on here For me, GAS sometimes subsides ... but it always returns
  13. I just love the look of Marks Limelight basses This one looks the bees knees too Something about that colour, reliced, and with the tort scratchplate... .... stunning Sadly, I really don't need another Jazz Or I'd be severely tempted by this beauty I know you prefer maple fretboards, but it sounds like you love this bass Are you really sure you want to part with it? Honestly, I'd think twice.... Anyhow, if you're sure - GLWTS .... and get another Limelight - with maple
  14.
Thanks Marc, wish I had the time to be honest. Anyway, last call on this or I'll be forced to build it and sell the SLB!
Yes Beedster, flog me your SLB, and get this finished!
  15. Ah, that's a shame! Those Squier VM basses are fab, honestly Try getting one second-hand on here, or a local shop Whenever I sell something, I'm always worried about what might happen in the post.... especially as a bass I bought a few years back was badly mishandled, and sustained slight damage Of course, both these basses may have been sent out faulty, from the Squier factory But I find it hard to swallow, that you had 2 duff ones in a row ....maybe Thomann actually buy "seconds"? - to keep costs down? Hmmm EDIT: I meant to add, good luck with buying your next bass
  16.
SG, the glossy neck is giving you a problem because there's too much smooooth surface in contact with your skin, giving you loads of friction. The solution is easy - reduce the amount of contact surface: what you do is get some really fine sandpaper or wire-wool and rough up the surface. You should use something like 1000 grit for this. Then when the job is done, get some bees-wax and polish it again to "appear" like it's smooth and shiny like it was.
Interesting. I'd say this is worth a try. Use a really really fine paper though - as others have said, NOT what B&Q call "fine" Something even finer.... Let us know what you decide, and how you get on I've got one bass I may well try this on.... It's not a huge problem for me, as I tend not to use that one for long periods at gigs, as it's a backup bass.... EDIT: Or would something like Jeweler's Rouge work? That's a very very fine abrasive polish....
  17. What a great resource! Thanks for sharing
  18. I'd definitely take up the kind offers of BC'ers like singrayPete, and have a play on as many basses as you can Just like bass guitars, it's amazing at just how different they can feel, sound and play Try a few before deciding..... EDIT: Obviously not as easy for those available only online I never did get to try a Gedo - but they look so lovely
  19. Sorry to hear that, and sorry - I don't know any authorised dealers in London I have seen various "unofficial" decals for sale online though I mention it, as presumably these are easier to source than genuine Fender decals... If you know for certain that the bass really is what it's thought to be You could consider a DIY job, picking up one of these unofficial decals If you know the bass is genuine, then that's good enough (unless you come to sell it on, of course) It's said in the modelling world (tanks, planes, trains etc not the other modelling) That transfers and decals are best applied to a glossy surface, for better adhesion.... As your bass is a '62, I wondered whether the decal had been replaced at some point anyway As you'd have thought it would have come off before now? Or there would have been some signs that it was about to do so Good luck with it anyway Let us know what you find and what you decide
  20. Here's a link to Gedo's online shop http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/category.php?id_category=50&id_lang=1
  21. Hi Chris, I was in your position just a couple of years back I started with a cheap Stagg EUB, and that convinced me to buy a double bass Although I didn't have anything like 2K to spend For some reason, there really was almost no choice in Cardiff at the time and I was restricted to either ordering from one of the sources you list or buying second-hand. But all the S/H basses to come up for sale seemed to be the other side of the country! Don't know much about Westbury, but Strunals seem to be well thought of Another company who seem to be really well regarded are Gedo I'm sure there will be another BC'er raving about these shortly.... I've heard not only are they fantastic basses, but the service & delivery from Gedo are excellent too My first acoustic double bass was bought second-hand, from a fellow BC'er and I'd recommend considering that option. Most BC'ers seem very reasonable folk, and will let you try a bass out and tell you what they know of its' history etc etc Take a look at Gedo, but keep your eye out in the Second-hand section Try as many as you can (not always easy, I know) Most of all, welcome to the world of DB ( there's no turning back) and good luck with your search Marc

  23. Hi, are these Fender items, or some other make? Can't quite see for sure in the pic... EDIT: I assume you still have them?
  24. Hi, does this bridge have the grooves in it, for keeping the saddles from moving sideways?
  25.
I was in Bass Centre trying NS instruments on Friday! What I found interesting was the omni (34") scale sounded more like a Double Bass than the full size! But for a double bass sound their short scale accoustic guitar with silcone strings is awesome!
Interesting that the shorter scale Omni sounded more like a Double Bass! Is that due to improved electronics? - I wonder For a while I had one of those really tiny Ashbory basses That had silicone / rubber type strings And it sounded quite DB-like. Had quite a huge sound actually, for something so small However, I really couldn't get on with the strings I found playing it really difficult Also, it seemed to go out of tune easily (though this may be because of the new strings)
