1. wow. Seriously, how metallic does it sound? Is it like a resonator guitar kind of sound or just normal? I'm a bit of a tonewood sceptic so I'm curious about this kind of thing.
2.
A most enjoyable thread, from a readers point of view it's almost a shame it's finished.
Totally agree. Somebody give Andyjr1515 another weird lump of wood and some random, strict limitations.
3. yeah, I've used super glue before a few times and it worked fine. But I think that was pretty lucky. Two interesting points: 1. That's actually what super glue was developed for. 2. There's a difference between surgical, sterilised cyanoacrylate and a tube of LocTite. Putting superglue in any kind of wound that hasn't been properly cleaned and sterilised is a bad idea. I'd say just play with a pick when you've got open blisters.
4. "The offer level was met previously by two buyers who then didn't bother to pay for it." ..still gives me a chuckle.
5. Forget it. If he can be bothered spending his time trading stuff for marginal profit, leave him to it. Life's too short for that kind of behaviour.
6.

oh my..
7. Great. Thanks very much. There's probably a hundred ways to finish a guitar and I think I've seen so many videos on youtube that I can't decide what I should do. But the photos you just posted look like my idea of a perfect finish. I suspected there might be sanding between applications of oil. You make the process seem so simple
8. wow, that finish is perfect. Can you describe your process and materials? Do you wet sand with oil or just wipe it on and let it dry between coats?
9. I've got a sr506. Not the same, but very similar, and it's pretty shocking how thin their basses are. 3kg for a 4-string Ibanez doesn't like too wild a number to me. I suppose I would've guessed more like 4.
10. Great to see more progress. I'm definitely struggling with tool maintenance. I can't seem to get my plane crazy sharp no matter how many educational youtube videos I watch. All I can do with mine is make dust, never a lovely curly shaving. I need somebody who knows their stuff to just come to my house and show me.
11. I've got a Vintage V940 fretless with the original active circuitry replaced with a passive circuit by BCs very own KiOgon, and it's perfect. It feels great, gives me the EXACT tone I want from a fretless and it looks lovely. I've also got an Ibanez sr506. I bought it about a year and a half ago at great expense (by my standards) and, although I love the tone, I'm finding it very difficult to admit to myself that I'm not getting used to that super thin neck. I knew when I got it that it felt a bit too thin but I assumed I would get used to it. If that was going to happen, it would've happened by now. It makes me sad that I might have to sell it, after all the fuss of trying to get it in the first place, but ergonomics is no small matter with guitars. edit: I voted for #3, by the way
12. Holy heckmachines, that's a classy headstock, front and back. Excellent. edit: woah, good timing! Finished pics just as I commented. This is a bizarre, fascinating, brilliant thread. Thanks for posting.
13. Mine was coming along, probably got to about half-way, and then work reared its ugly head unexpectedly. Ah well. What I had would sound pretty boring next to some of these
14. ahhh, brilliant! This is really coming along. This is infectious, though. I'm not even finished my current build and I'm designing my next one.
15. flippin' heck, I can't wait to see how this thing ended up.
16. This is fantastically entertaining madness.
17. I've finished the work that kept me too busy to submit on the previous two months, I've got the house to myself and, coincidentally, some beer to myself.. Let's music.
18. Minor price drop on the Alembic, and he just added a Status Stealth fretless 5 for €2100 (1530 GBP) http://www.adverts.ie/electric-basses/status-stealth-5-string-lined-fretless-bass/7958151
19. Not exactly eBay but this just popped up on a classifieds site in Ireland and I thought someone here might at least be interesting in looking at photos Alembic Elan 1989 http://www.adverts.ie/electric-basses/alembic-elan-1989-figured-walnut-on-maple-body/7957723 That'll be 1770 GBP
20. Well, actually, my legal team are currently busy suing me for forgetting to pay them, so I'd say you're safe enough to just go ahead. Incidentally, I see your SG has a Warwick cavity cover. Did you buy that or what? I'm not sure how to approach covering the cavity of my build. I might buy one (but they seem expensive) or make one out of mdf with a body-wood veneer.
21. I'll pass this under the nose of my legal team, but it all seems good to me. I just ordered a router and spent a few days making templates so I'm less concerned with imposing myself on other peoples builds now
