1.
... this will continue to take the 'do bits when I can' priority.
Booooo! Focus on this instead. My progress is so glacial, I depend on living vicariously through you as a luthier.
2. speaking of temptation; it's getting harder and harder to resist flying to Germany and personally destroying that mini Thumb.
3. Salut! Welcome to BassChat Those are amazing basses. I love the Leduc fretless.
4. uh-oh. Well, happy NBD anyway Me and my long-term robo-partner have completely independent finances so there's no permission needed from either party, but I wonder.. couldn't you just open a separate savings account for eBay/BC impulse purchases?
5. Wow, that's crazy. Are these made of newspaper or is somebody not getting paid? How can it be profitable at that price?
6. Wenge has such an open grain, I don't think I'd use it as a fretless board without a bit of grain filling and fairly tough finish. Mind you, Wishnevsky did it http://www.talkbass.com/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi420.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp285%2F49sfine%2FWishbass%2520Fantasy%2520951%2FFantasy951032.jpg&hash=0117310e01cb7216b24f999861efa5b6
7. It's still there and, using the previously described method, it still says there's five of them. I doubt that. I'd say that's just an automatic thing.
8. Great stuff. I just received a packet of black hardware too. No fancy pickups or nut, sadly.
9. ooh, so classy http://www.inlaystickers.com/products/girls-in-block-fret-markers-for-guitar
10. Great but, actually, I insist that I be given due credit in the form of my name scorched into both the front and back of the bass.... and really big too.
11. Another build! Woohoo! I'm sorry if this is impertinent but I was just thinking about your shape. If it was me, I'd thin the lower horn a bit to match the change to the upper horn a bit. Something like this http://i.imgur.com/B5brGLu.jpg Just putting it out there...
12. This gets posted all the time and it always amuses me. You have to give the seller some credit for sheer stubbornness. Anybody else would've realised months ago that this is a load of old crap, but he's sticking with it.
13. Wow. Some amazing stuff and really good prices. I'm going to have to search the forums to investigate all the import tomfoolery, see if it's worth doing. ...mind you, that Warwick "W" bass is horrendous.
14. My problem with demo videos is that they're about whatever you say they are. If you were cynical enough, you could take one set up and record about 6 or 7 different videos. Without changing a single setting, in one video you ostensibly demonstrate the pickups, in another video you're talking about the strings, in another video you're talking about the body wood to make some point about 'tonewoods', in another video you talk about how the maple board gives a "brightness" that the rosewood equivalent lacks and so on and so interminably on making video after video with the exact same gear. If you play well, your "pickup" video will garner compliments about the quality of the pickups. Your "strings" video will start some discussion about nickel vs steel. Having said that, I watch pretty much every one I find. I just really like looking at basses
15. wow wow wow Amazing stuff. And it looks like you could probably even make your own hardware. Seriously impressive.
16. Familyman Barrett actually has really bad technique, and if you seem him playing completely unaccompanied (like on BassPlayer tv or something), his timing's pretty bad too. But, put him with a drummer and something miraculous happens.
17. Excellent. Congratulations, Lord Sausage. Looking forward to seeing what this brings up.
18.

I can't let those Zelda symbols go unpraised. Nice one
19. As somebody who is part robot, I find the insinuation offensive. Quitting Basschat.
20.
We need to be able to check out potential purchases in the real world. I propose some kind of building where various different basses are stored, then people could actually leave their homes, travel to the building between designated times during the day and evaluate the products, perhaps using amps in situ. If a particular bass turned out to be ideal, there could be some way of actually paying for it there and then at the location so you could take the bass home with you. Bit of a pipe dream, I know. Probably never happen.
but it's raining..
21. In the future, when you're online bass-shopping you'll be wearing a robotic glove that'll force your hand to the neck profile of the guitar. And I, for one, will be delighted because, after scale length, that's the biggest issue for me.
