Wow. Some amazing stuff and really good prices. I'm going to have to search the forums to investigate all the import tomfoolery, see if it's worth doing. ...mind you, that Warwick "W" bass is horrendous.

My problem with demo videos is that they're about whatever you say they are. If you were cynical enough, you could take one set up and record about 6 or 7 different videos. Without changing a single setting, in one video you ostensibly demonstrate the pickups, in another video you're talking about the strings, in another video you're talking about the body wood to make some point about 'tonewoods', in another video you talk about how the maple board gives a "brightness" that the rosewood equivalent lacks and so on and so interminably on making video after video with the exact same gear. If you play well, your "pickup" video will garner compliments about the quality of the pickups. Your "strings" video will start some discussion about nickel vs steel. Having said that, I watch pretty much every one I find. I just really like looking at basses

wow wow wow Amazing stuff. And it looks like you could probably even make your own hardware. Seriously impressive. -
Bad technique great sounding players
alittlebitrobot replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
Familyman Barrett actually has really bad technique, and if you seem him playing completely unaccompanied (like on BassPlayer tv or something), his timing's pretty bad too. But, put him with a drummer and something miraculous happens. -
Excellent. Congratulations, Lord Sausage. Looking forward to seeing what this brings up.

As somebody who is part robot, I find the insinuation offensive. Quitting Basschat.
We need to be able to check out potential purchases in the real world. I propose some kind of building where various different basses are stored, then people could actually leave their homes, travel to the building between designated times during the day and evaluate the products, perhaps using amps in situ. If a particular bass turned out to be ideal, there could be some way of actually paying for it there and then at the location so you could take the bass home with you. Bit of a pipe dream, I know. Probably never happen.
but it's raining..

In the future, when you're online bass-shopping you'll be wearing a robotic glove that'll force your hand to the neck profile of the guitar. And I, for one, will be delighted because, after scale length, that's the biggest issue for me.
Let's all chip in for it then have a ceremonial burning !!!!! Next bass chat event anyone ?!
I think it's a fair assumption that this is an unplayable piece of absolute crap, so I wondered about the parts.. I priced the pickups and the emg phase inverter, knocked a bit off because they're second hand and then thought I'd give about 25 quid for the tuners and bridge pieces (not sure how many haven't been twisted beyond use). Also, assuming the hardcase is decent enough to sell on, I think I'd pay about £130 for this. Then £25 shipping. Take the parts, burn the rest. So, I think £200 is the absolute upper limit of what this abomination is worth. A mere stones throw from £9,999,999. I wonder how low he's willing to go.

March Composition Challenge - VOTING!
alittlebitrobot replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Brilliant! You must let me know how to do this... very useful
Simple enough, only mildly time-consuming. You go to the first song and underneath the waveform and comment box, there's an "add to playlist button". Click that, it'll ask you if you want to add it to an existing one or create a new one. Create a new one, make sure it's set to public, and then just go through the rest of the songs, adding them to that playlist. -
Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
alittlebitrobot replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Nashville Deko back! http://www.thomann.d...shvilledeko.htm EDIT: 3 left, according to the KB method.
Pretty nice-looking. I'm currently selling a much better Ibanez classical guitar, so it would be ludicrous of me to buy this... and, yet, still tempted This is just silly. -
March Composition Challenge - VOTING!
alittlebitrobot replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Sweet! I'm just about to listen to them all. For your (and my) convenience, I just made a playlist on Soundcloud so you can listen to them all in a row https://soundcloud.com/alittlebitrobot/sets/basschatmarch -
Well, I am over it now. Honest. However I could indulge in a game of hangman if you like; 6 letters _ _ _ _ _ _ Have a bash
I'm going to go for J because I suspect it's a UK luthier if you're in Scotland and, because I can't think of any others with 6 letters, I reckon it could be Jaydee.
The most "garbage" bass I ever owned was high end, hand made and very expensive. It quickly developed a terminal neck back bow that would have rivaled Robin Hood's weapon of choice. I shall refrain from naming it....I am over it now. Honestly. I am. I mean it. Honestly.
hint?

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
alittlebitrobot replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice one. I'm so glad somebody's getting something out of this. I used to check the deko thing fairly frequently and it never really changed. Then somebody started this topic and it all blew up. I can't help feeling that whatever bot is buying the stuff automatically is a result one way or another of this thread. IF that's what is actually happening. Maybe the items are disappearing immediately because Thomann are taking them down. It might just be some admin glitch. Who knows. Judging by the NBD descriptions here, it still seems odd that they're almost being given away. I mean, if a finish blemish makes it unplayable, what counts as B-stock? A bass that nearly fell over but actually didn't? Or one whose E string was temporarily tuned a bit sharp, putting too much stress on the neck.. -
SELL IT!
-
Just buy 2x 6 string. 1 fretted and 1 fretless and you should be sorted lol
nah, two 8-strings. One fretted, one fretless. Each one strung EADG (roundwound), EADG (flatwound). This would require some modification of the nut, and willingness to look like a complete tool showing up to gigs with a pair of 8-string basses.

Don't think I'll bother
alittlebitrobot replied to PaulWarning's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
haha. I'm really not into Fenders at all, and the backwards bridge and pickup covers bother me but, I have to admit, I can see the appeal in this. I'm usually into the "coffee table" basses but there's something enjoyable about how silly this is. Like an old painted sign that's had a neck and some strings slapped on it. Way over-priced. I wouldn't be tempted in the slightest but it made me smile. -
I really want a go on that Ibanez one. My problem with Thundercat is that I just want to hear him play guitar. What he plays can be really nice but that kind of stuff on bass, to me, always sounds muddy and fudgey and other unhelpfully vague adjectives. Like this thumpy, fretty nonsense https://youtu.be/EVmdh8Utdn0t=2m23s Still an interesting, lovely-looking bass and they both sound pretty unique.

"GB style" NT 5 string bass - £195
alittlebitrobot replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I don't know what worn Badass V bridges go for? (The saddles are worn, according to the eBay listing, which I should have posted last night. Oops.)
Oh, I didn't realise. Well, good ones go for near 100 dollars. Still, I think the high-mass thing is over-rated so I'd happily sell that bridge for whatever I can get for it to defray the overall cost a bit. -

My back hurts just looking
alittlebitrobot replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I had a BLX80, 1x10. It was made with plywood and LOTS of it. It weighed 25 feckin' kilos. 25! for a ten inch combo. The idea of moving this thing reminds of those documentaries where they attempt to re-enact the building of Stonehenge. -

I'd buy it and sell that bridge for as near 100 quid as I could get. Then you've got a pretty nice bass for the money.
