Any thoughts on this? I think it's lovely-looking but I'm also posting it because I think it's interesting to see all this blurring of brand-name perception. I know Ibanez are seen as good-for-the-price kind of basses, and now there's this high-price, higher-spec apparition. The same used to be said about Squier. Fenders cheap, kind of crappy budget option. Now, not only to people love Squiers, but standards appear to slipping in American-made Fenders to the extent that many people prefer Squiers. (I don't play either Squier or Fender. Please don't lynch me if you disagree. I'm just passing on what I've gleamed from Basschat and Talkbass) Anyway, I think it's interesting. Would you pay this much for a Soundgear? I have an SR506 and I like it a lot, but if I had this kind of money to spend on a bass, I wouldn't go for a Soundgear. Finish a thing. Once upon a time (2008, I think) I joined a bunch of people to make an album in a month. An album each, I mean. One definition of an album is 28 minutes and there was 28 days in February, so we did that and it was fun. Since then, though, I just noodle about with an idea and then forget about it, never seeing through. I'll be using the BC compo comp to help me take an idea a little bit further. I need to learn (a lot) more about mixing and mastering. I'd also like to collaborate with someone, I think. I'd like to work with a singer but I don't know how to grow/find one of them. So, any progress on any of that would be nice for 2015

late and not very helpful but my brother has a Dolphin II like yours but red. There's a couple of small spots where it got hit and the paint chipped off. The wood underneath is very pale, like ash or basswood. Lovely bass, that.

I mean, yeah, cotton's ok for reggae blues or whatever, but there's no way you're going to get that tight, mellow, high-end, mid-rangey, scooped, warm, bass presence attack that you need for jazz.

I had to miss Novembers competition so I'm keen to get back into this. The problem is that the thing that comes most strongly to my mind when I think about fireworks is the complete lack of rhythm. I'm worried that the only way I can respond to this image is with some ludicrous, unlistenable, arhythmic "free jazz" nonsense...

I'm going to go for "Where is my mind" by Pixies. The song sounds like the bass and drums are the rhythm and the lead guitar is on top but the rhythm guitar is so important. Thank you! Although I usually have the black stuff in a pint glass. What I skimmed over previously was that I'm going away for the full month of November and I have a lot of stuff to get ready, as well as the day job, so I know I won't have another minute to work on any music until December. Today was my last chance to do this and I would LOVE to spend more time on it 'cause I know I'll listen to it tomorrow and squirm. I'll listen to it first, then the other submissions. I think that's probably the best way. Still, it's my first one, so I've no standards to uphold, and my next (more studious) attempt can only be an improvement, so it's win-win!

Aye, it's interesting all right. I can't imagine it's something any small luthier is going to try. Once you've routed it, set the truss rod in and glued the blank back together, every cut from then on needs to be in perfect longitudinal alignment with a channel that is now invisible.
