  4. Thanks - thought they looked 'jazzy'. Was hoping for at least 40, but rarely can you have it all.
  5. Cheers Cameron. The coil switching is a real tempter - it just gives so many options. Any idea on the nut width of the Super4 (and on the KZs for that matter)? Can't track them down anywhere. Main downer seems to be lack of AP switching in the preamp. Do you know if there's a Bart upgrade like with the KZs?
  6. Love/hate for these? Cheers, Tobie

  8. Absolutely. I confess that this is most definitely not a 'need' situation! - if anything, it's a feeble attempt to justify acquiring an active 4. All of my current basses (and those moved to pastures new) do the job perfectly well for the purposes of pleasing audiences, but as a died-in-the-wool bass man I'm resigned to satisfying my geekery too and I'd just really like a modern-looking, active four in my arsenal again.* *Don't tell Mrs. W.
  9. Cheers for the various suggestions. I've owned a Warwick $$ in the past and whilst it was very versatile, it wasn't the greatest player. I may seek out an HH Stingray to try though. I suppose I'm after a modern looking and sounding instrument really, that I can rely on for all sorts of stuff that changes at short notice. It would be great if it could do very transparent, clear and punchy (I play a lot of gospel), right through to p bass thump (I also play in a very mixed function band). Anyone got any experience with Lakland's 44-01? Have had the Bart MK1 package before and underwhelmed by it, but the MK4 upgrade's clearly a popular choice. What about the MTD Kingstons? Only ever played an Artist 4 but the neck was excellent. The KZs and Supers look interesting. How's the electronics package? The Yammy TRB1004J is, presumably, a solid contender - all Yamahas that I've owned and played have been tough and useful. As always, much obliged for the thoughts. Cheers, Tobie
  10. Looking at picking-up an active 4 that can reasonably cover everything from modern hi-fi to p-bass territory. Must be under a grand new, but happy with gc s/h and not too keen on jazz-width necks, though not necessarily a deal breaker. Current options include Lakland Skyline 44-01, Yamaha TRB 1004J and MTD Kingston KZ4. Anyone have any experience with these? Cheers, Tobie
  11. Absolutely - great drumming. Love his cheese-sniffing too!
  12. No doubt many of you have seen this, but those who haven't and those who just can't stay away (like me), here's the wonderful Will Lee playing The Chicken...
  13. Thanks Si. The DHA units look they should be just the ticket. Cheers, Tobie
  14. Cheers fellows. Both look great, but perhaps the Two Notes is a bit of overkill. Nice to see the British-built DHA stuff. Great that there are options. What about building? Doable for those who dabble in pedal construction?
  15. Cheers Dood. Changing to the fusion could be an option, but I am fond of the MB500. spends-wise, a pedal doesn't have to be dirt cheap, just not multiple hundreds.
  16. Evening all, I'm not a technical chap, as some of you know, so please excuse any outlandish gaffs in the following... I'm after a valve preamp with a DI. Current chain is effects into a GK MB500 and GK Neos (the theory being that I can keep it transparent and colour with effects), always with PA support. I'd love a valve preamp (primarily for character, rather than overdrive) without buying a valve head - is this achievable in a pedal? I'd also like a DI in the same unit, particularly for use with in-ears and to have the option of travelling extra light. It would be useful if a pedal could also be bypassed so I can keep it on the pedalboard. Footprint doesn't matter. Are there options that will fit the bill? Alternatively, are they DIYable by people in the know? None of this is essential so don't want to spend a fortune. Cheers, Tobie
  17. Really impressed with Sandberg's offering - really cheap, protective, decent amount of storage space and sits well on the shoulders.
  18. Paul recently bought some pups from me. Good comms, fast payment and he was understanding when I wasn't able to post as quickly as I would've liked. Cheers, Tobie
