1. For £3,600... if I a ) had the money and b ) knew that the auction was genuine would have very willingly paid every penny. Must be a scam though, I quite reasonably asked for the seller to send some more pics and I never even got dignified with a reply.
2.
Urrnnggghhhh... yet another tale of beered up thuggery ruining it for everyone... Still, the thought of the unlikely trio making a hasty exit does create an amusing image. Glad you got out alive (and with your outfit intact!) I think you also deserve Kiss props, for braving the full on outfit in a country that has yet to appreciate Kiss in the way that they do over the pond. If it'd been a US high school dance circa 1978, not only would you have been hailed as a hero, you would undoubtably have gotten laid. Several times. Can we turn this into the official 'Kiss Kuriosities' thread?
When I think of it, it always reminds me of that scene in the Christmas episode of Father Ted when they all pile out of the fire exit in the lingerie section. The really annoying bit is I lost ALL my photos when my computer died about 18 months ago, I had some really funny shots too. I did just find a shot of Elvis and Wonka though!
3. Definitely do it. They're a great playing bass and they sound good enough anyway, I can only imagine how brilliant it would sound with a quarter pounder. By the way, these artist endorsements - no custom stuff done whatsoever. Mine is stock and standard.
4. Gotta hand it to Paul that's one hell of a story! Fair does to you, as much as I want the covetted pinball machine I think I'd have made a swift dash for it! Not quite on the same level... but I once went to the 6th form fancy dress party in full Ace regalia (that I managed to cobble together in the two weeks I had), knowing full well it was in the local football club. I got given a lift but due to the bollards outside the clubs grounds had to walk the final stretch up the hill in my platforms. I got to the club, walked through the door and handed the doorman my ticket. Following the rather strange look he gave me he pointed me in the direction of the hall. Unbeknown to me I had to walk past the bar, which was full to capacity with drunken football boys after a game and had 2 rather huge windows which I had to walk past. I hastily got by with a shower of pointing and jeering. I walked into the hall and not one person recognised me, everyone I said hello to had to ask who I was. The night too rather a bitter turn due to the vast amount of alcohol that was consumed, the football boys managed to find their way in and bottled my mate who was dressed as Elvis (he was stood next to the entrance), luckily my other mate who was dressed as Willy Wonka grabbed hold of him pulled him in my direction and we made a rather swift escape out of the fire exit. What a bizarre scene that must have been. Elvis, Willy Wonka, Ace Frehley and a collection of other random people including the village people legging it down the drive of a football club... 'Elvis' rented his costume and lost his deposit cos of the bloodstains.
5. Faultless combo that one, done every UK gig with mine. I've had some big comments on it too, it really is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Best of luck selling it, although you surely don't need it at that price.
6. PM sent re: neck and explorer body
7. Top notch stuff! Hope you find a bass player soon
8. Started off with violin at primary school (was desperate to play guitar but my fingers were too small), then at aged 11 once the fingers were big enough I put the violin down and picked up the guitar. 8 years later I had a bass floating about and got asked to join a band on bass. Truth be told I prefer bassing to guitaring these days. Funny going from 4 to 6/12 strings back to 4 again.
9.
Drug capital of Wales apparently. Good luck with learning the bass boyo!
Don't remind me, I positively despise living here at the best of times!
10.
Root,5.Root,5,ad nauseum....who needs the other notes?Jazz players?I need a map to go above the 12th fret!
I sometimes venture past the 12th fret, mainly to vary it up when playing 'Alright' and I play the same intro as the guitarist on 'Wasted'
11. Welcome from Merthyr!
12. I actually quite like that... would look lovely on the rack next to my leapord print Les Paul bass
13. In that case Jase, you're sterling. I'm just a Dee Dee Ramone type with a bitta Lemmy thrown in for my sound haha. Not very technical but solid I suppose.
14. Have a look at Wilkinson hardware. Great value for money and it holds up really well (I give my bass a battering)
15.
er ... left handed or right handed with that?
haha. Seriously for such a poor (and frankly lazy) guitarist he was a complete tosser. He was a bit of a James Blunt (writing wise and cockney rhyming wise )
16. I pick out the chords play those with a little improvisation in breaks and emphasise any hard hits our drummer makes. Apparently I'm more like a drummer than a guitarist when playing bass haha
17. I'm the opposite to the guy mentioned at the beginning of the thread. I can't play most solos, I improvise them.... Also I can't read music. Strangest guitarist I ever met was this guy who I was supposed to be joining a band with. One of my mates is a really good female rock vocalist, so she asked me to get involved with a new band on guitar. I met up with the other guitarist only to find out he was left handed, played the guitar strung up for a right handed player and played in open tuning. He was a complete tosser with it...
18.
This is my one. I had it for sale in the for sale section, funnily enough, but have decided to put it on ebay. I've not asked for the other one to be deleted as I may bring it back over here or I may not. I have noted in the title that it is now on ebay though to keep everything right or did I. I didn't not want to decide to not list the bass neither for fear of not confusing none of the people wot aren't not disinterested in not buying this bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=004
Stunning bass that one! Good luck with the sale, whoever picks it up has a top bit of kit there
19.
Hey, I have the Washburn & Greco too.... along with the Silvertone (cracked mirror) and a rare Silvertone 'Preacher' prototype! Cool Basses I'll use in the show are an authentic custom built copy of his original 1976 Spector SB1 and a custom built Kramer 'Axe'. See you there!
Ah nice! Bit of a sneaky move by Mr Stanley there designing the Preacher at Silvertone then going over to Washburn again. I tried a Washburn Preacher up in Music Live, the gold PS7000 model. Quite impressed considering it was made in Indonesia of all places! I don't blame him for going back to Washburn at all, the quality is heaps better. I never really got why he went to Silvertone... they must have paid him incredibly handsomely!
20.
Ooh! Nice Iceman! Who did that for you? I have an original 1978 Paul Stanley signature Iceman in my collection but there ain't no way I'm letting my 'Paul' play it! lol! Cool! Come up and say 'Hi'! afterwards! Should be one helluva party - doors open at 6.30, the new Paul Stanley live DVD will be screened immediately, then we'll do a two hour show with all the pyro/firebreathing etc, hopefully at least one 'dancing girl' and thenBogiez rock club afterwards! That Guitarfest appearance was a last minute thing - glad you enjoyed it! We had to use their gear and just get up and play!
I bought it as is from a KISS fan up in Newcastle. Wipes the floor with my Silvertone Sovereign Pro *suprise suprise*/ My Washburns the best tho, it's the PS500. I got a 78 Greco Frehley copy too. Hopefully I shall be there and I'll say hello. What bass(es) are you gonna use?
21.
It's OK, I'm here! ....and thanks for the 'UK God Of Thunder' comments After BC Rich produced the original prototypes (some of which had 4-in-a-line headstocks) Gene then took the design and (word is...) had them built by Fernandes for him to sell direct. I don't have proof of this... but Fernandes is the name most bandied around... They're nice basses.... a little neck heavy, but nice and punchy/growly!
Cheers dude. Being quite the KISS fan I love Genes signature basses. I'm getting an Axe built for my collection, I'll have a guitar/bass for every member then. It'll take pride of place with my mirrorball Iceman Hopefully I shall see you at the Point in a couple of days. That's if I can get a ride there. I caught you at the Guitarfest about a year or two back, damn good band! Couldn't believe the amount of pyro for the size of the venue haha!
22.
Thunder - now there is a great band.
Great band indeed. I saw them with Deep Purple and Peter Frampton. Great night, Frampton was on fire.
23.
I'm pretty sure he owns one each of all of Gene's signature basses.
So would I if I won the lottery! That and all of the basses Nikki Sixx has had over the years
24.
I'm sure Cetera does...
Ah very true, seeing as he's the British God of Thunder
25. Just wondered if anybody knew what factory produced the Axe and Punisher bass guitars that Gene licensed to Spencer Gifts in the late 90s. From what I gathered they were made in Japan and the name that crops up the most is Fernandes. Anyone know who made them?
