  1. I would have no problem buying from the rest of the world, but currently wouldn't buy from the EU until everything had started flowing / not flowing again. I assume/hope at some point in the future it will once again not be easier/faster to get something from china thank from 30 miles across the channel, regardless of costs. Yes, you now pay VAT on second hand items, which means that vat is double charged on an item for whatever reason - that snuck in undercover of the same time as brexit, it isn't part of the brexit 'deal', it just turned up.
  2. I never knew that song. He is right, the live version is quite a lot faster than both of those. I really like Joe Jacksons version of that - the anthrax cover isn't bad either.
  3. I must admit it would be nice, beforehand people were asking for various options like 4 / 5 stirng, which I can understand, but now outside of the UK is no longer what it was. Or at least put a banner over the top pointing out that non UK basses now cost 20% more than the listed price.
  4. Comes from the italian, but we know you like your imperial measurements!
  5. As an OT aside, what is the relief on your lightest string (the high D in standard). I think mine is too low just because there isn't enough velocity to get any volume out of it!
  6. ah - ok. <walks slowly backwards out of the room>
  7. I didn't follow all that - my point was more that Al seems to think if you say humbucker you think of a MM pickup, whereas I don't. i only think of that if someone says an MM type pickup.
  8. Agreed - when someone says a humbucker I don't think of either a P or an MM type pickups, even though they both are.
  9. Obvs the aerodyne fender - it is aerodynamic innit?
  10. Ah - I am out, I don't use 2 fingers. But not as fast as I like. Can do something like hysteria and on the edge most of the time of hit me with your rhythm stick. But there are some patterns I can do a lot faster than others. Good question - I can do 2 notes at a huge BPM!
  11. Gibson use brass truss rod bots it would seem. Not sure if that is the reason
  12. I have a Elwwod with a non angled headstock and no string retainer/tree. As a result I have to be very careful how I string it or I will get buzz. I keep meaning to get a string retainer every time I restring it but keep forgetting.
  13. I think that ibanez use titanium due to weight reasons - they have very skinny necks and on mine have been about the most stable necks of any of my basses. Having said that, my Maruszczyk bass actually has the same neck profile as my ibanez, but without the additional stability. I haven't had any problems but I haven't touched the truss rod much
  14. Almost literally half as tragic as it could have been. Absolutely amazing work by the pilots (and a fair bit of luck too).
  15. There is at least one where it is an option
  16. Yes, a bit crazy. I must admit I wouldn't have looked the second time after getting the first price
  17. Any sufficient market change adjustment that you don't have access to would appear pretty random!
  18. The stiffening rods wouldn't have had much of an impact on the truss rod at all, but if they were stiffening the neck correctly, the chance of having to adjust the truss rod would have been reduced. After 18 months I would assume they would. It would not be reasonable for a truss rod to fail in that time. However, there is the issue that it is hard to prove user error, without looking at it. Certainly following the link that was supplied, that truss rod failed due to manufacturing defect, but hard to prove without having already taken it apart. Note that they also have titanitum truss rods as well, rather than what appears to be steel for the mzk ones.
  19. Thing is, you shouldn't have to. You shouldn't have to specify you wanted something that would stop your truss rod from breaking. If it isn't good enough on its own it shouldn't be an option. My ibanezes have titanium rods and double action truss rod in them on all the premiums and prestige (which is all I have now). I didn't specify them, that is what ibanez decided was necessary. And they were cheaper.
  20. At the moment you are restricting your market to your own town. Which when your own town has 45,000, of which there must be quite a small number of bass players, I think that isn't much of a market. I am happy with interparcel mostly, seeing as Eurosender are no more, but noted that their price to ship this bass was £20 higher than UPS on their own site.
  21. Courteeners - Are You In Love With A Notion? For the lyrics - "You're going to quit Debenhams, Elope and get married in the sun". Don't really need to quit any more
  22. I prefer blend knobs to volume / volume, but yes, you are right, they aren't as useful on passive basses, as at full blend your pickups have half the volume down anyway.
  23. In a non lockdown scenario, that is probably a good idea if you have the time to do it.
  24. Like buying an operating system that you have to buy antivirus software to make up for flaws in its architecture.
