  1. ok, additional points with that then, there are two types of keyboards you can get, weighted or non weighted (and also semi weighted, and thinking about it membrane and a few others, lets ignore that and stick with 2!). If he is used to the piano he might not be that keen on the non weighted which is what most synths are, but then he might be - I have a DS49 which isn't weighted and a piano that is. The Roland DS 61 is weighted, the 49 isn't weighted. The D isn't either, there is a cost implication (and weight) in having weighted keyboards. Might be worth your son nipping into a shop and trying some to see if he gets on with it ok.
  2. Sure is. I think if it went fully I would still try and get another one as there is nothing that is the same format as that. Although there is a part of me saying 'if I got an echo, chorus, overdrive, octave up and autowah pedal, I would have everything covered. But that would take as much space with an additional 5 leads, 5 power leads and 10 connectors to go wrong live. Or I hold out for when TC electronics get round to making a plethora 2 that had a bit more plethora!
  3. If you want something really cheap to be getting on with there is the Roland:Go, but not sure how robust it would be for gigging. There are also the Yamaha MXs that are looking cheaper second hand, but a good thing would be to watch a review on them to see if the interface is something you get on with. I must admit the thing I like on the Roland DS (and VRs), is the interface is very much 'I want a piano, press the piano button then if I want look for a variation'. Sometimes a keyboard can be a bit of a rabbit hole, chasing a specific sound. i have known too many keyboard players who were good players, but ask them for a change of sound and that was the next half an hour gone.
  4. Prices of everything have rocketed - I bought my DS new for £600, now used ones are that price. Also I was waiting for the price of used VR09s to get down below £400, they got almost there and started going up again.
  5. I must admit, in hindsight, as someone who had a B3 that I used a lot and sold it for a B3n which I have hardly used and still don't really get, I sort of regret getting rid of the B3. That and the B1-Four which again I rarely use, are probably why I will skip the B6. Only problem is that as much as I like the HXFX which I do, it is now getitng to the stage that 50% of the times I turn it on it says firmware failed, and the last time I turned it on at a practice, it firmware failed twice in a row. I presume at some point it could fully die. Actually I think I will do a firmware update on it. Not today though, I am playing a wedding tonight!
  6. I would go for a Roland DS if you want easy with generally good sounds, or a Roland VR09 if you want to do a lot of organ stuff
  7. The seats on the Leon are almost flat, certainly flat enough to slide the speakers on. I think I am odd in this case as I don't mind the lane assist if that's what you mean, you turn it off when you are in lane mode by rolling the wheel down to get the list and pressing it to turn off
  8. Yes, almost certainly the MU50 will have better sounds, so not a bad choice. The advantage these have is just the plug and play USB and no other required leads. You read the power order wrong, these actually have batteries in and can power your keyboard as well, they don't need to be the other way round.
  9. No, the guy who came up with the HP as a unit of measurement was in the business of selling things to replace horses. You would hardly want to say 'well, heres my new machine, its very expensive and unreliable and only as powerful as a 5 day old foal'.
  10. I don't know about the skoda, but it is the same family as the seat, so I guess things might be similar. I have a seat leon ST (estate) which has a flat loadin and seats that go down. But the actual floor of the leon is actually lower, and it just has some floor thing which makes it level. if you want, you can take that out and put it at a lower level, whcih presumably gives you more space top to bottom but gets rid of your flat loading, so I have never done it. But it can be done. Is it not a similar thing but with yours put down at a lower level? - edit - I looked at a review, it is the same thing but it is an option, I guess mine was just one that had it fitted. If I didn't have it, I would just get a 6mm MDF from B&Q, cut it the right size and paint it black or put some carpety stuff on it, it would be exactly the same thing.
  11. Largely speaking they are functional. Some of them are pretty good, some of them are a bit non convincing, it varies on a patch by patch basis. you have the general piano / horns / strings etc and you can find reasonable patches for some of those, but it is not really competing with some of the really good sound modules (or even the iPad apps). For use on a stage they are fine, I wouldn't really use them for recording. I got it for use on the stage, for home I have some good apps and a Roland DS, which sound better. In fact on stage I mostly use the iM1 app, whcih sound better, but it is handy that it is just a hardware box you can plug in and make noise. I think they are very good for the price.
  12. Those piano box things are all you need to connect a class compliant keyboard into them via usb, and they will also provide power for it as well if you want. I have one of the MidiEngine ones, which are basically similar except not a piano.
  13. Most of the places we go have toilets so we are ok with that.
  14. Bass of choice, small bass as backup Pedalboard Amplifier 2 x Bass Speakers (1x12s) Wireless transmitter all cables and spares in bag, all power leads and extensions Microphone Stand & Microphone bass stand IEM sender, reciever and in ears iPad 2 x 12" PA Optionally 1 bass bin Legs for PA X18 Mixer X-Control for mixer Wireless stuff for mixer Pair of Lights Some kind of recording device, little zoom audio or video recorder Phone, wallet, keys.
  15. They come with a bag that fits it nicely. But no, not a guitar bag
  16. I got mine from John East, not sure where these came from https://www.east-uk.com/product/single-knobs
  17. Its a lot easier than it looks!
  18. One day my insignia died (which was fairly common), and I took my wifes car to a gig. Luckily I didn't have the PA back then, but it got my bass, my 2 TC cabs, my amp, all my leads and everything else in a Peugot 206cc
  19. Before the 2 leons, I have an insignia sports tourer. That could get everything, plus the drum kit and the drummer. And all the groupies.
  20. I have a SEAT Leon ST, and I can get everything in. Having said that, I had a SEAT Leon, normal shape before hand and with the seats down I got everything in. Where everything is 2 1x12 TC cabs, 2 Alto PA 12" cabs, mixer, amp, 2 basses, big bag with all the leads. Now that I have the ST, I also have a bass bin which I take too.
  21. so compared to the B3n which I have (admittedly rarely used), what are the pros?
  22. Ooh miss.. miss.. I know, I know <waves hand>
  23. I would suspect she would come over better in a smaller venue
  24. Lana Del Ray. Really like some of her songs, but no idea why anyone would go and see her live, as she lacks any presence. Although to be fair, there is no real movement you could do to any of her songs so maybe that is the idea.
