It would need to run off 18v as the pedal itself runs on 2 x 9v batteries. If you use a power supply by Diago or similar then they make an 18v adaptor so that you can run it of your standard pedal board power. Hope that helps? Mark
Would this work from a 9v dc supply or does it require more? I see the rear panel says up to 25v.... J
Price drop bump - Will now take £130 + P&P. BARGAIN!!!
Decided to sell my Mu-Tron III envelope filter. This is the re-issue by Haz Labs and is about 12 years old so I believe. Can produce some excellent funky quacks as per Bootsy Collins and by all accounts is about 95% the sound of a vintage Mu-Tron but nowhere near the price!! Looking for £150 plus postage. Thanks Mark
Here are a few that you MUST have a look at! EBS Bass IQ - Think they are about £150 new. Chunk Systems Agent00 Funk Mark II - £250 ish. Listen to the sound clips here: http://www.chunksystems.com/a00f2.htm#sounds Mu-Tron III vintage pedal and the father of all filters - £350 upwards Mu-Tron III + this is the re-issue version and produces a good sound. (Mine is for sale in the Effects forum) Subdecay Prometheus - £220 I think. Not tried one but heard very good things about them. I have tried the Q-Tron, FX25B and Maxon AF9. Yeah that is a better shot - it is a work of art alright and so unique. Spoke to the man this week and MUST get down to get the Rumour tweaked a bit as it should have been done after 6 weeks and that was April!! Always worried when I walk in the shop just what I may end up spending!!!!!
Maybe a better shot?
How did you get on with the Mu-tron in the end? Just realised never saw anymore posts to this thread! Mark
Will do Mark, although TBH I've got nothing to compare it to!
Great sound from Ken Smith and Mark Bass amps

Derek Nash is the sax player - have never seen them with a flute player!
As far as I know Winston is PTB's main bassist - I keep hearing great things about him - but try and see them live sometime - Gareth Lockrane the flautist who leads the band is a badass - he's also on the last James Taylor Quartet album 'New World', and rather excellent it is too. Sage advice there and I will printing this off and circulating to my fellow band members! Do you work in marketing by any chance!
That's a very difficult question to answer because there are no rules, no perfect answers. Only you and your band know what you want to say, what your vision is, what sort of band, music, etc., etc. Most of it is down to your own personal self image and how it relates to the band, and what the other members feel bout themselves in the band context. It's all in the prep, clothes, hair, location, lighting. The photographer should not have to make any decisions for you, they should simply be committing your vision to posterity using their expertise. Just don't use lighting that looks like a passport photo like in the OP's pics. Often, black and white pics with plenty of shadow can say a lot more that complex lighting. The OP's photographer probably shoots food and sofas for a living judging by the lighting choices. Are you a "band" like the Beatles, or do you have a clear leader like Van Halen? I think a few good general rules are that you don't have to be good looking, just looking good. Let the person in the band with the most "personality" not one with the most "creativity" lead the shoot, and especially the prep. Look like a team, not a bunch of friends from the pub. Think about the lifestyle you want to sell and do the old trick of dressing for where you want to be, not for where you are. Signed bands wearing jeans and tees and just-woke-up-hair will have had that image crafted in most cases, it's still their "uniform". A lot of people don't have a strong sense of these things and need to be led, they probably won't like it so it can cause as many arguments as musical direction. I could go on but I don't know if it would help.
That is a very good point too - yesterday I played two gigs with two bands using the bass with Elixirs on and no problems at all with my fingers today, check out the link below to see what my fingers looked like after the same two sets with the same bands at a jazz festival in May! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=blisters So yes agree that the coated strings are definitely easier on your fingers!
+1. I've tried a number of different brands over the years but have always reverted back to Elixirs. The tone is consistent, and they have a smooth, finger-friendly feel that you just don't get with some other brands.
Love the fingerboard but not sure about the body!!!
Finished yesterday...
Great sound from Ken Smith and Mark Bass amps
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in General Discussion
Last year at MJF Roger Innis was on bass and Darby was drumming and I have to say that it was much better with those guys playing. Although they were good yesterday they just lacked a bit of the funk element. I also thought that stand in drummer was a little poor - I think I could have managed his drum solo!
I guess he's the dep? Roger plays with many people including John O'Leary's band. Darby, PTB's drummer knows John so I guess that's the connection.
-
Great sound from Ken Smith and Mark Bass amps
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in General Discussion
Does that mean his normal sound through the Mark Bass stuff is not as good then?
If you hear Protect The Beat on one of their pub gigs, like Boaters in Kingston, you'll get to hear WB's sound. At Marlborough you were hearing the DI and the PA, so that was probably just the bass.
-
How would you recommend doing it? Being shot altogether doesn't always work either as we have seen on the link to the crap band photo site! I am interested because in the next few weeks one of my bands has to go through exactly the same thing and I am keen not to make the same mistakes!
With complete conviction on my part, I think that is the most manifestly absurd photographic strategy for a group shoot I've ever heard. If you had paid for that I'd be angry on your behalf. EDIT: Gosh, I'm so SERIOUS aren't I!
Just gone through this dilemma myself and finally took the plunge and went for a set of Elixir strings which I bought from Stringbusters and I think they were about £28. Do have to say that they are fantastic I have played three gigs and 4 or 5 rehearsals and they are still lovely and bright sounding. Now I would agree with other comments on this thread that they are not quite a bright as non coated strings when you first put them on the bass but the slight zing that you do get just seems to last forever. I have been really impressed with these strings and will be using them on both basses now and would readily recommend them to all.
I know it's all down to the player, but IMO no strings last any longer unless they're coated ones, which are going to be more than twenty quid a set. D'Addario Pro Steels are super bright, and so appear to last longer. But it depends if you can stand them so bright in first place. See the thread about boiling strings, where meths for cleaning them is a useful tip.
Great sound from Ken Smith and Mark Bass amps
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in General Discussion
Definitely a BT5 bass but not sure that it was a CMD121 (I am not really up on Mark Bass stuff) but I am sure that it had dials on the front of the amp. Either way there was plenty of high end believe me. He did a stunning bass solo - very Stanley Clarkesque and the sound was fantastic. Top player a very nice bloke to boot.
Was Wilson using his BT5 though that CMD121 combo of his? Last time I heard him live, he sounded really scooped, in fact there was virtually no high end at all. Was it like that this time or was the sound better? I've tried the same combination myself live and found it really difficult to hear myself because of the lack of mids.
-
I was at Marlborough Jazz Festival yesterday and watched a band called Protect The Beat who play there every year and their bass player Winston Blissett was using a Ken Smith bass through a little Mark Bass combo. I have to say that the tone he got was awesome - loads of bottom end but with a nice high end sizzle that I thought you could only get with basses like my GB!!! I tried Mark Bass amps at The Bass Centre once and the only thing that I remember about them was that they were very light and looked like a wasp!!! Perhaps it is because Winston is a top session player that he can get a great sound like this but maybe I need to look closer at Ken Smith basses and the Mark Bass stuff. Oh no here comes the GAS!
