Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
Pedaltrain 2 with hard case = pain in the arse, Pedaltrain 2 with the soft case works really well, sling it over your shoulder and walk to the stage job done!
Yeah I have indeed considered the M9, but for it's even relatively small footprint, if it were only to replace my delay, reverb and chorus, it would take the same space on my board. The possibilities of the extra sounds in the unit though are very tempting, I could ditch most of my set up for one, that I am sure but even so my seperate stomps nag me to stay faithful. cheddatom - Yeah, I used a Korg AX3000B for years. Really, the only solution, if I want to keep my large set up is to put up with a large board or if I want to downsize a little but retain the same sounds, to buy an M9 and quit whining! I just don't really know what to do though. I'm gonna put everything on my new Pedal Train Jnr and see how much space I have to spare and then go from there. I'll probably end up getting a pedaltrain 2 or 3 as they look like more reasonable and manageable sizes than my Tourman.
-
Pre EB Stingray on Fleabay
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yeah I guess so! I mean really who expects a 32 year old bass to be in mint condition?
MB1. So basically "Mint" now means Roadworn?
-
This Stingray has just come on and looks pretty good for the money if anyone is looking for one. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123

I seem to be losing the bottom end when I slap!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
How much?
Flea uses an MXR Micro Amp to boost his signal for slapping. I could build you one if you like
-

Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
Yes - now feeling the problems with opting for the outboard pre-amp as with my jazz I have both pickups on full so no real option to adjust anything on the bass! With my Rumour for example I never have the bass boost on full so I can always increase as you suggest or flick the slap switch if needs be!! Maybe a J-Retro might be a better idea here?
Yep, switching from finger style to slap can produced a more pronounced top end and less perceived bass - I usually just reach for the bass control on my instrument and notch it up a little bit for slap then back down for fingers. The same goes for my picking technique that has an attacking tone.
-

The MXR M80 looks a handy bit of kit but a little overkill for my needs I think. I used to have a Catalinbread Serrano Picosso which was a nice little boost but I sold it to Higgie when I bought the other pre-amps as I didn't think I needed it anymore - wrong!! Will check out the Silentfly and Boss GEB7 and see if they would be worth buying, will also try the suggestion of trying to play lighter with the fingers but not sure if I can do that! Also got me thinking how Flea manages live as he has a really heavy finger style but I never noticed any drop out when he changed to the thumb?
I have to use a boost for slap parts as i play quite heavily fingerstyle. I have a little signal boost box made by Silentfly but most of the time i use the MXR M80 which has a switchable preamp with a 3 band eq. Any decent boost/preamp/eq pedal should get the job done.
-

Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
Yeah you could be right - I think that I tend to have quite a heavy touch and that could be causing the problems but it is weird that I have only noticed it recently. I did change my outboard pre-amp from the Sadowsky to the Aguilar but surely that should not have made too much difference? I should get my Rumour and Stingray back soon so it will be interesting to see whether I get the same using those guys as obviously there will no pre-amp in the chain then. Like Deepbass5 says a two channel amp could really cure the problem but that would mean a new amp again and not sure that I really want to do that unless absolutely necessary. I am also in the process of moving to an In Ear Monitor system so that should also help with perceived volume and what I can actually hear when I play.
I find that a lot of perceived volume loss when it comes to switching to slap isn't due to the slap technique or effects, it could be down to your fingerstyle technique! The heavier your touch is fingerstyle, the more volume loss you perceive when you come to slap. I've found the best thing to do is to try and play a bit lighter when playing fingerstyle, and let the amp do most of the work volume-wise, so when you change to slap, if anything, there will be a boost! Of course it could also be your EQ settings, but I find the above to be the case a lot of the time.
-
Recently I find that when I move to my thumb for certain sections of our tunes I seem to lose all of the bottom end out of my sound and to my ears it sounds really empty. My EBS Multi-Comp has a gain boost on it and I am trying that to solve the problem but without much success. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what can I use to cure the problem?

Discovered a great band last night - Laid Blak from Bristol
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Yeah he is pretty handy, good song-writer too.
Ah jack, he's a good guy, great player too. Had a sweet funk jam with him (and a second bassist!) at the end of one of his mr wolf nights.
-
Aguilar replied as follows: We recommend using the Aguilar PSU-2 power supply with the Tone Hammer. However, most 18V power supplies will work fine as long as the output connector is center terminal negative with a 2.1mm barrel (standard for most effects units). Do you know if your PSU is center terminal negative?
Sorry I have no idea, most pedals will take 18 volts but please check with a dealer or you might cause damage.
Managed to get some time with the M2 last night and it does work with the line signal from my pedal board but does not seem to loud! Going to try it tonight with the keys player at a rehearsal and see how we go. The supplied headphones don't seem up to much so may have to go for moulded plugs with drivers in them. I bought the system of EBay for £250 which I think was fairly reasonable. Did want the Shure PSM 200 but it was too expensive and I was not keen to spend a fortune on something which really is a bit of an experiment!
Agreed, it will be happy with line level signals. There should be a reasonable amount of gain control as well so you can tweak to suit. If you have a link to the manual I`d be happy to have a quick look, but I`ve been feeeding my akg iem system from the line out AND/or the d.i out on my ashdown, and sometimes the out from my Boss GT6B with no problems. MM Out of interest, what did the AT unit cost?
Wasn't planning to use a mixer just wanted to try and blend the two channels together on the receiver unit.
Does the mixer on your pa have any aux outs?
Ok just bought myself an Audio Technica M2 system and have not had much time to look at it yet due to work and hospital visits etc. I want to mainly use it live to mix my bass signal and the keys players signal in my ears. Does anyone know if the signal going to both must be an amplified signal ie a DI out or can you just take a line signal such as after my pedal board but before my amp or direct from the keyboard? When using with a full PA is the monitor send an amplified signal ad that is what you would normally send to an IEM system I guess? Any help on this gratefully received!!

pre EB MM Porn Thread Stingrays/Sabres etc
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Gear Gallery
Yes patience is the word Pete!! Hoping that I love mine as much as you do yours - fingers crossed. They are special basses with such a unique tone, can't wait to do a few gigs with it.
I was wondering but knowing where it is I knew it could be a while Looking forward to pictures and a review. Funnily enough I have been playing mine earlier for the first time in a while, It sounds and plays so good although the truss rod might want a tiny tweak. No matter what people say they do sound different to EBMM versions even the 2 band EQ ones, must be Leo's magic?
-

Fretless Musicman Stingray ready!!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
How do you go about ordering a bass to your spec? Do you have to go through a retailer or can you speak to them direct in the USA?
Well, I have been after an unlined fretless Musicman Stingray in Tobacco Burst with a black pickguard for some time. Couldn't locate one anywhere in that spec, so had one ordered in the next Ernie Ball production run. Order was placed Feb 15th and I received the UPS tracking details today with an anticipated delivery date for 16th May - yippee!!! I'll post some pics when it turns up safe and sound.
-

The T.Bone Wireless In Ear Monitor system
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yeah I know - just keen to get it sorted and done the right way. So that answers the questions ref two inputs so that leaves the question on if it is good quality or cheap sh*te from Thomann!!
Man, you`re like a dog with a (T) bone.. Have a look HERE 2x Combi-Input adjustable on receiver
-
Still busy researching the switch to IEM and these look like an exceptionally priced unit but there are two things that worry me and I wonder if anyone else on the forum has used them and could confirm or quash my concerns. They are: 1/ They are low cost and therefore low quality - they are about half the price of the Shure system that is top of my list. It is false economy to save the money on the base system if it is inferior in build and sound quality. 2/ I am not sure if you can plug in two different inputs and then mix those inputs as you can on the Shure system. I need to take a feed from our keys player and then a feed from my bass amp so two inputs is a must. Cheers

Thank you. Made me chuckle when I found it!!
LOVE your avatar mate.
Yes they did and neck binding too. I bought a '74 jazz bass which is a YOB bass for me, think I was lucky as it was the right year and plays and sounds like a dream.
Did Jazzes have blocks in 1974? If so I might be interested, can't say I've thought about it before though.
