1. All good as far as I know and should be ready in about 2 weeks - would be interested to know what you have heard PM me with more info!
Very good How is the Ray doing? I heard a few whispers down the grapevine but nothing definite.
2. Yeah - you would look good with a 74 jazz bass!!
I'm on the hunt for one of those then
3. I used Sonic Bids for a while and found it to be a right royal rip off!! Submitted to lots of festivals and never got onto a single one of them. Now that could be that my band is crap and no-one likes what we do but not sure that that really is the case!! My advice would be to save your money and use it for something more constructive.
Looking at a few festivals and ways to go about playing at some of them and one of them said the best way is to use the Get Me On Stage and Sonic Bids websites. This is all very good but I see you have to pay them. Is this another rip of for the hard working musician or are these websites really good and worth using? Any one used them before and had any success?
4. Really considering going down the IEM route as at gigs my ears get deafened and I can vary rarely get the right mix on stage of myself and the keys which I rely on a lot! Just wondered if anyone has used this system and if it is any good as it is the entry level system from Shure? I presume also that you can change the standard headphones that come with this system to moulded plugs with speakers in from hearing centres etc?
 5. I did seriously consider going for the Nordy pups but there was just a nagging feeling that I did not want to take out the original pups as that felt like it was taking out the heart of a vintage bass and made little sense. Not saying that this is wrong just that it made no sense to me. I have since bought the Sadowsky pre and then Aguilar Tone Hammer. I opted to keep the Aggie and moved on the Sadowsky simply because the ability to adjust the mids on the Tone Hammer made such a difference to me. One thing is for sure that there is no way that I could go back to the jazz without a pre-amp now as the difference in tone is huge.
hi everyone.... ive been a jazz bass player...forever...i have a 76 & 78....ive tryed emg...baddass etc...not with great results!!!!! now i have nordstrand nj4 pups & the j east j retro in the 78 jazz.........this works for me!!! all of these so called outboard pre amps....offer variations of the same thing....take five" & look @ the specs of these... so called tone shapers.....aguliar "sadowsky"eden"sansamp"ebs"...etc etc......subtle variations of the same thing!!!! 6. Are the Warwick and Rockbag gig bags one and the same? I couldn't see a Warwick branded leather case on the Thomann website.
I was speaking to one of the guys at probag around christmas, he said that they've now moved all production into the states so they can keep an eye on what's happening, and also improve quality, but he said unfortunately this mean's they've had to bump up the price. So to get one into the UK with taxes and postage, you're looking at around £200. Fortunately Thomann have got the leather Warwick bags back in stock, so I've got one of them on order Should be here in just under two weeks (birthday's on Saturday 16th).
7. Thanks guys, opted for the Protec Contego in the end!!
 8. Bloody hell - too much choice. Is it really worth spending £150 over £40?
 9. My trusty gig bag is down in Brighton with my Rumour and I have a gig on Friday so need to buy another one to use - anyone got any advice on a good one to go for. Not bothered about price just need one quickly and with lots of pockets for all my gubbins and that will keep some relatively expensive basses nice and safe too.
 10. How do you find the 3 Leaf Audio Proton? As a self confessed envelope addict I am still toying with the idea of trying one of these out!!
Along with my board: Here are my latest creations: My brand new custom designed overdrives. My tribute to District 9 and Van Gogh. Original circuits by me and all hand painted. The District 9 Bass Overdrive. Just a prototype, so a little rough. I was going to make a small batch of these with professional silk screening. My Van Gogh "Bones" Distortion. Original Circuit and hand painted by yours truly. It sounds BADASS.
11. I can find out what he uses but we share the same rehearsal room and last week I saw a Peavey TNT Bass combo in there!!!
I downloaded 'Red' this morning. Nice track, maybe download the album. Anyone know what bass gear he's using...............I somehow doubt it's a Skjold through Genz Benz?
12. The keyboard player in my band Zang Tang is also the keys player in Laid Blak!! I will pass on your comments to him tomorrow.
Played a gig last night and the Mr DJ put this on while we were setting up. I went, sh*t! What's the f*** is this, baby?! He said Laid Blak, good aren't they! I bought the album today. Some lovely bass on this too, and, well it's all good. The lyrics are interesting too, not what you think they might be at the start.
13. Yeah she is a beauty - will be nagging Bernie to get it done quickly though!!
Thats such a nice Ray Gunsfreddy Im sure Bernie will have it sorted and playing sweet in no time ,Well maybe not no time it is Bernie but it will be worth the wait. Looks familiar too, Im sure I have seen it for sale recently and like you said you only just got it Ha
14. Here is my '77 Stingray. Neck and body were built in June and July 1977. I have only just bought the bass so have not had time to take any pics and it has now gone down to Bernie Goodfellow in Brighton for a bit of work and attention! Sounds fantastic though and really looking forward to recording with it next month.
 15. Great idea Pete, hey if it is just you and me at least we will be having fun indulging in all things Stingray!
Im concidering starting an MM porn thread rather than just the one we have including EBMM, Does that seam elitest? Im clearly not as I have 2 EBMM's the 5 being bought after the pre EB. It would be nice to have a dedicated pre EB thread including the Sabres too I guess. What do you pre EB fans think? At the moment there appears to be an underground network of owners who know who each other are where as Im obviously more out there in the forum as it were it would be nice to have us all in one place and see who has got what etc but would it just be me and Mark (Gunsfreddy) on there and everyone else keeping quiet?
16. Yes!
Does your signature need updating mate
17. Oh yes!!!!
Just looked now, £1270 still looks good to me but just shows what a good deal the buyer of the 77' natural one with the oh so rare and cool teardrop case got for £130 more! I think there was a few hundred pound more in that one but the seller was gassing for a king bass that was also for sale.
18. and replied to!
PM sent. :-)
19. I play in a band doing all of our own material and at some venues we are clearing £450 - £500 per gig as we have a reasonable following. They pay the support bands £60 which seems a bit of a raw deal to me. As previously said most bands playing original material don't care what they get paid as long as basic costs are covered and that is certainly our ethos when playing "out of town".
In a nutshell, I am not aming to make serious money out of it, I do have a day job and this is just a hobby, however travel expenses and more importantly fuel cost which is the biggest issue on everyone's agenda recently, but I am more concerned about ways to repay the drummer and his van, and for the other 2 to get a meal and a drink out of it.
20. Bump!
I have decided to shift on my Sadowsky Outboard pre-amp which I have been using with my 74 jazz bass with amazing results. These little boxes really fatten up your tone and give a massive full and rounded tone. This pedal is in mint condition and has only been used at home and for one gig. Brand new they are £214 from Thomann so would be looking for £150 + P&P.
21. Great playing and a really nice tone from that Jazz bass! Is it stock electrics in the bass or have you changed the pick-ups or pre-amp at all? Would be interested to know your set up and what you use for recording too?
Hi guys, I just got lucky enough to come across a bass of my age There it is : Jam 1 Jam 2 Hope you like it !
23. It's a good point but if you buy good old vintage basses then 99% of the time they are going to have a fair bit of mojo on the so what difference does another scratch or ding make? That is where I am at with my jazz bass. If you did have a pristine jazz from 69 for example then yes I agree you may worry about getting a mark on on it. My Rumour is is perfect condition so when I gig that it is either on me or in the case and that keeps it safe - If you follow that rule then surely you can take out your most expensive bass and then just enjoy it?
I've got nothing against people owning expensive basses and I've bought a couple of basses myself which were over £1500. The problem I find is that most basses in the £500 - £800 bracket are great workhorses and I find I'm reluctant to take the expensive stuff out. With a recent change in circumstances I'm finding it harder to justify what I thought were keepers as they don't get played live
