pre EB MM Porn Thread Stingrays/Sabres etc
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Gear Gallery
No I really only wanted a natural coloured one and I was also quite particular about how much figuring there is on the back of the neck. I also wanted to buy a bass that was made in 2011 to celebrate my son's birth so decided a Stingray 5 Classic might be a good investment seeing as my YOB jazz cost quite a lot to buy 34 years later!! Anyway my son was born on 23rd Feb this year and this Stingray was built on 22nd Feb 2011 so just had to have it!! Everyone talks about the B string on these basses - are they really any better than on a normal Stingray 5?
+1 it's why I don't mind using my tidy one, if it ends up like CK's all the better I thought maybe you had taken the one from BassDirect Gunsfreddy, if things were more settled with the wifes job I'd of already bought that one by now. All in good time....
-

Don't know yet - picking it up when I get home tomorrow. Will give you some feedback once I have had a noodle with it. Have a rehearsal on Tuesday too so should be able to give it more of a bash then. Shamefully I opted for one in natural again!!
I'm fairly certain my next one wil be a Classic5 after a couple of deals to secure a very early 5 both fell through. What's it like?
-

That would be Neil Corcoran then I guess?
Get thee behind me Satan! Thanks, Pete - she is a fine bass and I would like to know more of her history. From what I've heard she used to belong to the Aussie bass player witha band called "Mother Earth" in the 1980/90s. The neck is dated 1982 and the rest is 1980, so whether it is a later replacement or not, I do not know. If anyone knows anymore I would be really chuffed to hear about it. M.
-
Don't worry - I didn't put it in my OP!!! Did want a Shure system but they were too expensive.
Ahh sorry Must learn to read the original post fully!
I have already bought an Audio Technica system!
Sure E2's with the foam tips are my choice. They came with my IEM setup. I bought the new SCL-5's at the same time (the new E5's) and ended up sending them back and saving my self £400. I've had them 3 years and one ear has started to go faulty but i'll get myself another pair in an instant for the price i can get them at. Also, if your looking at wireless systems, i can recommend the Shure PSM series.
Did you buy these from the States or do they have a UK retailer?
Having the molds makes a huge difference, IMO. I've just moved from using Sennheiser IE8's to JH Audio JH7 Pro's and it's a world of difference. Aside from the multiple drivers, I really feel the molds play a huge part in getting a good, tight bass response. Pricey but worth checking out: http://www.jhaudio.com/collection-promusic.php#7
So if going for the single driver option and replacing the filters in my ER-15's that means either Puretone or ACS. Anyone got any ideas which one is better or worse?
top marks for ACS.. I got my moulds (plugs) from them. Friendly and efficient, but do check around for prices, I've seen variations of £50 or more for the same gear
Thanks for that - never heard of Minerva before but their prices look good compared to ACS and Ultimate Ears for example. Does anyone know much about them? Judging by other threads to this post it does seem as though it is worth trying the option of replacing the filter in my ER-15's with a single driver monitor and seeing how that goes. Obviously the isolation will be good as they are custom moulded plugs already so could do the job.
I'm a regular IEM user and would recommend to go for the best phones that you can afford. Double or triple driver phones are obviously advantageous for us bass player as you have a dedicated bass driver for the low end, although I've heard some mass-produced phones by Sennheiser and Shure that have really solid and tight bass response without the custom price tag. I'm currently using Sennheiser IE-4 phones, and while they aren't exactly blessed with a wide frequency response, they sound OK at the volumes I use them at. My guitarist uses a set of dual-driver Shure earphones, he swears by them although the first set he bought he had to get replaced as the left ear input was faulty! I'd love a set of customs eventually - you should check out a company called Minerva, based in England, very reasonable prices for custom moulds (if you want to go down that route) Hope this helps - have a listen to a few high-end phones if you have an audio shop in your town, sometimes they have the facility. Evening all, A while back I bought an Audio Technica wireless IEM system which works fine but the supplied headphones with it are not up to much. I would like to go to for some custom moulded monitors and need some advice. I already have some ER15 plugs and I have found out that companies like ACS and Puretone make a single driver monitor which can be used instead of the deadening filters in the plugs to make it into an IEM. I wonder if anyone has tried these? Some people that I have spoken to on this subject advise that you must have monitors with 2 or 3 drivers otherwise the sound quality is really bad but I would like to sense check this as there is a huge difference in price and I really don't want to spend a fortune on these unless I have to. Equally I do want a sound that I can use and want to protect my ears too so it is important to get it right. Any advice or experiences really appreciated.

OK - so not moulded to your own ears then? Do they stay in ok and how much external sound do they block out?
I got mine off evilbay for £100 as part of a stock clearance, £200 ish normally I think. they hav 3 drivers though and the sound is superb!
-
I was going to get some Ultimate Ears from a place in Enfield, interested to know where you got yours from? I presume they have more than one driver in them?
I have a fischer wired in-ear monitor kit coupled with a pair of Ultimate Ears triple-fi-10s' and it's fab, sounds really good! The triple-fi's keep out most of the background noise and I can choose my volume comfort level, my playing has improved significantly as I can now hear subtelties I couldn't before! It is important to work closely with your sound chappie to get a good in ear mix though!!!
Trying to upload some pics but every time I upload the attachment editor box has the message "Bad Request" in it. Anyone any ideas why it is doing this - used to upload pics with no problem at all.
Hi, Is this the latest model of the fast track? From having a quick look around I think there was an update at somepoint as the old one didn't have phantom power for the XLR but the new model does. Any chance of some pics and do you still have the USB cable? Cheers Tom
Hi - not sure which model it is to be honest. Will put some pics up later on when I get home. Yes it does have the cable with it. Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
SNAP - had this with my old board but bought a PedalTrain and not had a problem since.
I used to do that. The velcro was stronger than the adhesive sticking down the velcro pads so if you wanted to move a pedal, you just ripped the velcro off the board.
-

Have you tried the tape that they mention on the GigRig website - apparently it is fantastic but I have to admit that I haven't used it as the velcro tape from Halfords seems to work fine for me.
Superglue wasnt any good, trust me. I even put industrial carpet glue on it, and that didn't work!
-
Have a Sadowsky and and Aguilar Tone Hammer and would highly recommend both of them particularly with passive basses like the Fender Jazz.
Hello everyone... I'm looking at outboard pre-amps and all the different options etc. I'm interested in the East one, Sadowsky, Fodera one and ones of these ilk. Does anyone have any experience with any of them? Also, I was thinking of getting the Mike Pope on board pre-amp and mounting it into a box. Would the essentially be the same as an outboard pre-amp with a few alterations chaps? Thanks in advance... I would agree with the term muddy here. I A/B'd my LMIII with the RH450 at Bass Direct through Bergantino and TC Electronic cabs and the RH450 was certainly a less defined tone and more of the old school motown or reggae type tone. To be fair Mark at BD was pretty sweet on the tone that I was looking for and did state that he thought that the LMIII was more on the money for me than the RH450 just because of the more open tone.
Hi when comparing them side by side, they are very different, the Markbass is clearer, plays better with an outboard distortion pedal and is very good with the RS cabs but I found the RH450 a bit muddy, very good if you were playing Reggae or Dub but if I wanted that high glassier sound I couldn't achieve it. Not saying the RH450 is bad far from it just a totally different tone.
Can I be forgiven Pete as I have only had my 'Ray in the house for just over a week?!!!
I have just read through from the start and actually I think we all did quite well the first wrong post is #38 Gunsfreddy. To try and clarify my earlier posts to me both clip 2's sounded nearest to what I would call a Ray sound so even if they had of come from something else to me those clips would still of been the most Ray to me, The fact they did come from a Ray may hold some weight or it may not Just to prove you dont need the fret clank to have the Ray sound I give you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWHQtGIF658
-

Agree that neither sounds very 'Ray'ish but my vote is for 1!
